Who: Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji
What: Checking out costumes
Where: Walmart
When: Morning
Warnings: Low
Status: Closed

Walmart, Wei Wuxian found, was an interesting place. Figuring that they needed more food in the Jingshi (despite not knowing how to cook) he decided to grab his husband and head out toward the store. The place was big and if it did get crowded he figured he could keep his zhiji from the most of it. Though, they were lucky enough to come early (far too early to him) and not deal with a crowd.

Shopping was not something that he particularly liked to do. Though it did allow him to get his chili oil. No, his husband wouldn't touch it but he would drown his food in it as much as he could. Anything that would get a bit of spice to it, he'd happily grab. He's also pretty sure that they could easily find something for his brother, sister, and Lan Xichen too, food or material-wise. Even if Lans didn't really do many material things.

There was a part of him that wanted both his precious Lan Zhan, his brother, sister, and brother-in-law to enjoy the fine things like music on devices. Even if all of them preferred their instrument of choice. However, he'd found that music coming from the devices and into headphones was nice. Especially if it came to those, like the Lans, who were early risers and went on runs sometimes. They could have music while they ran.

Unfortunately, he'd gotten distracted and wandered a little bit away from his husband when he'd taken note of, what was to be, a scary mask. "Lan Zhan..." Yes, he's heard of Halloween. Even seen it celebrated before his husband and the rest of his family had shown up.

"Come here and look at this."

Lan Wangji was not a person who enjoyed going into crowded stores to do his shopping. He missed the open markets of home with their stalls on either side of the road and the smells of the different foods that mixed in with the sound of people talking.

They often did have a lot of people talking around them in Walmart, but it was not of the soothing, feeling like home quality. However, they did need a few things and going to the big store early seemed to be a good idea.

Besides, they could get everything they wanted all at one store. Lan Wangji was never not going to be happy and amazed about that.

Hearing his husband call him, he switched directions and walked over to what he was examining. He tilted his head as he examined it. "Are you thinking of putting it on one of the horses?"

He couldn't imagine his beautiful zhiji wearing such a thing.

Wei Wuxian missed the vendors back home too. Though, he knows that Yunmeng and Gusu both could get crowded. It's why he tended to stay at his husband's side, unless the man had left before him that day. His husband did tend to get up at five in the morning, something he could never picture himself doing unless he had to.

When Lan Wangji comes over to him and mentions something about the horses he can't help but give a bit of a laugh," Oh, my precious fuddy-duddy." His husband could, when wanting to be, a very silly man. Though he also knows that question was rather serious too.

"Why would I put that on any of the horses? It would scare the horses and scare Lil' Apple too," he points out. "There's all kinds of things here, Lan Zhan." It had just been the scary mask that had caught his attention first.

Lan Wangji had said the comment about the horses and the mask to make his Wei Ying smile and his lips tilted up at the corners when he accomplished his desire. However, on examining the mask, he shook his head. The mask was creepy and he didn't like the smell of the materials used to make it. He wouldn't want it anywhere near the animals -- especially his zhiji's beloved Lil' Apple."

"I like some of the other decorations," he admitted as he looked at the lights and the different decor.

He wandered down one of the Halloween aisles and found himself standing in front of a shelf that had a variety of stuffed animals on it. They had caught his eye, but the one that seemed to have captured his full attention was a rather large stuffed bat.

There was definitely no way that he would allow any type of scary masks near his Lil' Apple. That donkey meant a lot to him and the horses that he worked with also meant quite a bit to him as well. Though, he does note the slight smile on his zhiji's face. A smile that he knows is for himself only and not for anyone around them.

"I hadn't gotten to the decorations yet. I was looking at the costumes," He tells his husband. There were so many different things to look at, costumes and decorations alike. Wei Wuxian doesn't remember the store being like this the year before but he hadn't really ventured into it before.

Those eyes look over toward where the other had gone," What did you find, Lan Zhan?"

Anyone who tried to do anything to upset that donkey would see the glare of Lan Wangji's sword. As far as he was concerned, Lil' Apple had been a true friend to his Wei Ying before he had known he was brought back to him and that was something that could never be replaced.

He was contemplating some of the lights as they did look unobtrusive and something he could handle, but the stuffed animals had really caught his eye.

"A bat," he murmured as he picked up the large gray animal and looked around for a second one. "We must have two of them."

It was no secret that he liked animals, but there was something about these bats that made him smile and think of his beloved.

"They are cute."

Lil' Apple had been there with Wei Wuxian for a long time. To be honest? He was going to hate the day that donkey grew older and gave up on life. That wasn't something that he ever wanted to think about. Even more so when the donkey couldn't be given ever lasting life, after all.

They could, as it were, get some of the pumpkin fairy lights to hang around the Jingshi if it came down to it. Something to scream halloween. Or they could find different lights to put up. They've never done anything to decorate before.

Moving over to his husband he gives a smile at the sight of the large gray bat. Those eyes trail over the stuffed animals before he finds a large black one," What're we going to do with the bats, Lan Zhan?" They could hang them in the Jingshi, or the bats could lay in the bed while they were at work.

"They are cute."

With the Jingshi here, they could do a few things to decorate if Wei Ying wanted to. Some of the little strands of lights were pretty and he could envision them hanging around their home in a few places. He hadn't thought much about decorating last year, but now he found that he was open to idea -- as long as they didn't get too crazy. He also hadn't actually gone into Walmart and looked at things last year, either.

He was realizing that Walmart was one of those shops that he would have to take in small increments. It was so full of stuff.

He smiled when his husband found a black one to go with the gray one. He hadn't thought about what they would do with them beyond buying them as they had caught his eye and he wanted them.

"They will watch the Jingshi while we are not there."

That sounded right and he was pleased with it.

The Jingshi being around was actually nice. Him being able to decorate it for Halloween, for his birthday, would be fun too. Though he's never tried to put up lights or decorations before. They hadn't really done that when Noxeema had been around, not that he can remember anyway. That had been before his husband had shown up too.

Walmart was... well, it was something even he had to take in increments. Something that he wasn't sure if he was fond of or not and he was a very tactile person, unlike his husband. Though he could handle anything if he was with his husband. Maybe even if he was with his brother, but mostly if he was with the man he was already with.

"They will be good watch-bats."

The moment he says the words he gives a bright smile. Even if there was no such thing as guard bats. Funny how they'd come into Walmart for food and got distracted by Halloween decorations and costumes.

He nodded in agreement with his husband. "They will be."

He wanted their home to reflect both of them and the freedom that they had here in this place. While he did miss their world -- and the boys -- there was so much about this world that he was learning to enjoy.

The main one being how many things made his zhiji smile on any day. He would never get tired of seeing that.

"Does Wei Ying like any of the lights or any of the other decorations?"

It would probably be a good idea to get them now if they wanted as there was no telling when they would make themselves come back into Walmart again. It could take some time.

In all honesty? It was funny called big stuffed bats watch-bats. Though they would be far better than any feral mutt would ever be. If they did get any animals for the Jingshi then it would be a kitten and not some feral mutt that wanted to tear him apart.

At the question, however, about the lights and other decorations he gives a bright smile. Those eyes trail over the different things before he finds well... more bats. Bats that he could hang onto the ceiling of the Jingshi and some he could hang outside. He'd try not to go too far with them. He also finds a few lights that they could use as well.

Moving over to his husband he kisses his cheek," We should grab what we really came in here for before you lose me to all of this."

There will never be any dog in the Jingshi. Lan Zhan was very firm in that decision as he would never want anything near his beloved that might harm him or cause him distress. They hadn't talked much about getting animals, but he was open to the idea if it was something small that they both loved.

He gave his husband a small smile as he saw his smile and how he went about looking at different items. He is curious about the additional bats and nods at the strands of lights. He had thought about getting some of those, as well.

He nodded. "We will get our food and leave before this place steals you away."

He knew that it was unlikely to happen, but he was happy to select the rest of their purchases and leave the store behind.
