Ben awoke that morning and sensed that something was off. He could hear female voices that seemed to be coming from the living room. Had he left the tv on? He sat up and rubbed his eyes, suddenly catching a young boy standing on the bed in the reflection of the mirror. Ben whipped his head to the side and sure enough, there was a child bouncing on his bed with glee. "Yay! You're up, daddy. I'm fucking hungry." He looked at the kid unamused and shook his head. "I don't know how you got in here, but it's time for you to get the fuck out. What's your name?" "Super Ben! Where's momma?" He questioned and jumped off the bed. "I want bacon, and pancakes, with eggs and cheese." Unaware that he had three young girls in the living room, Ben left the bedroom in his boxer briefs and went right to where his weed was to roll a joint and light up. "Eww, daddy. Can you put some pants on?" Wynonna complained while the twins giggled. He stood there and stared at them in awe. "How did you all get in here? Are you all related? Does your mother know you're missing?" "Dad, seriously. This isn't funny, alright. I think you might have smoked just a little too much this time." "Momma is at Aunt Wynonna's." Ben hurried back to the bedroom and pulled on a pair of jeans before running out of the apartment. He went right up to Wynonna's apartment and knocked at the door rapidly. "Waverly, I think you left some nieces and a nephew at my place." Waverly had worked the night before so she wasn’t quite awake when the knock came to the door. Her hair was a mess and she was only wearing a thin tank top and boy short panties when she opened the door with a sleepy and confused look on her face. “Ben? What?” None of what he said made any sense. His gaze traveled over her body, and he licked his lips, thinking about what he would like to do with her. However, before he could say anything, he heard a voice from behind him. “Momma!” Ben Jr. shrieked in delight and came running down the hall, practically throwing himself at Waverly. “This kid was in my bed this morning. There are three girls back at my apartment, and I know that I did not sleep through having four fucking children!” Waverly’s eyes went wide as she caught the little boy on instinct. “Whoa. Hey. Hi there.” She hitched him up more securely in her arms like a pro then looked past the little boy to the man he looked exactly like. “Language,” she insisted. “He says fuck all the time,” the little one said with a big smile. Waverly sighed then handed the boy to Ben. “Let me put on some clothes and I’ll be right there.” “You know, nobody likes a snitch, kid,” Ben muttered to the boy and rolled his eyes. “Hurry, okay. Before they multiply on us somehow.” He walked away from the apartment reluctantly, carrying Ben Jr. in his arms as he walked down the stairs with him back to his place. “I’m ready to eat now, daddy.” He said, rubbing his stomach in an exaggerated motion. “Yeah, well, so am I, but you have to wait for Waverly to get here. I don’t cook.” His brow raised as he smelled something coming from his apartment, and when he walked in, the older girl was at the stove and making something. “Uh…Waverly is coming down and she’s going to sort this all out.” There was no way any of this was real. He had to be dreaming or in some weird reality. Wynonna looked up from the stove to her father and gave a snort of amusement. “Who do you think taught me how to cook, Dad? Geez. Someone has to cook your meat.” Bacon got stuck in one pan while sausage links were in another.” It didn’t take Waverly too long to throw on some clothes and put her hair in a ponytail then pelt for Ben’s apartment. When she burst in the door she blinked as she took in the little domestic scene. A teenage girl was cooking. Twin girls who looked to be about 13 were flipping through the channels on the tv, and the little boy was spinning in circles. “Uh…” was all she could say. “Hi, Mom. Coffee’s brewing.” Waverly looked at the teen in absolute confusion. The smirk that came to the girl’s face was so much like Ben’s there was no question who her father was. “Judging by the looks on your faces, this is Dome shit.” The girl smiled as she put her hand to her chest. “I’m Wynonna. Sixteen.” She pointed to the living room. “That’s Elizabeth and Elise. They’re thirteen. And that…” she pointed at the boy just as he got too dizzy and fell down. “Is Benny. He’s five. You told me about how the Dome messes with people and if you ever gave us weird looks to just introduce ourselves.” Someone has to cook your meat. “Please, whatever you do, never say that again.” Ben looked over at the girls and listened as Wynonna spoke. “You have got to be fucking kidding me. How am I supposed to smoke in here?” Elizabeth looked at Ben with a pointed gaze and folded her arms across her chest. “You can’t. You’ll have to go outside. Besides, smoking is bad for your health, and you should quit.” Ben rolled his eyes at that. “This is my apartment, and I should be able to do what I want in it.” “Speaking of,” Elise piped up, her arms gesturing around them. “Where’s our house? There’s nowhere for us to sleep here.” He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Did he really have to make room for these random kids in his measly one-bedroom apartment? “We don’t have a house. At least not yet, anyway. Are we married?” “Wow. I think maybe you need to ease up with the weed, dad.” Liz stated, shaking her head. “Yes, you’re married. The two of you have been married for like, a billion years.” All Waverly could do was listen to the answers, stare helplessly then let out with a sound of manic amusement. “Wow. The Dome is really hitting below the belt these days for you, huh.” She gave Ben the Elder an amused look then went to help Ben the Smaller up from the floor. “You might not want to make yourself puke. Your dad is having a hard enough time.” Speaking of, Waverly walked up to Ben, took him by the shoulders to turn him toward the door. “Go. Wake and bake. It’ll make this easier.” Ben stood there and just laughed, though he found none of it amusing. “I’ll be back in like, two weeks?” He joked somewhat, moving to grab his stash before walking down the stairs. With his apartment as crowded as it was, he was in no hurry to get back. Even if there would be food waiting for him. He took one of the joints and lit it up, puffing away at it like his life depended on it. Maybe he would have to get one of those stupid fucking electric joints or whatever the hell they were. Or maybe buy a fuck ton of edibles until these kids were gone. If these were kids from the future, they wouldn’t be around forever, and he couldn’t wait until he had his apartment back to himself. Ten minutes later he made his way back up to the apartment and let himself in. Ben groaned and rubbed a hand briskly over his face, looking at everyone sitting around the table. “So, uh…where are these kids supposed to sleep?” By the time he got back, Waverly had talked with all of the kids for a little bit. Everyone was giggling about something, but she had them all gathered in the kitchen, sitting at the table like they were supposed to be, with plates of food in front of them. Waverly looked up when she heard the door with a bright smile on her face. “Hey. Feel better?” She definitely was taking this way better than Ben was. “There’s room at my place. I can take two and you can take two, then we’ll meet up for breakfast here in the mornings.” Yep! She had this all figured out. It took a second for it to all set in, and he just stood there, suddenly hit with a flood of emotions. It was foreign, uncomfortable, and he hated it. “I, uh-” his hand came up to rub at the back of his neck, unsure of what to even say. “There’s only one boy. What the hell am I supposed to do with a girl?” Of course. When in doubt, say something stupid. It had been a very long time since he had felt so unsure of himself. “Um - I’m going to take a quick shower, and then I’ll get dressed. Save me some food.” Ben muttered before hurrying to the bathroom, stripping off his pants and briefs along the way. Everyone went silent while Ben looked like he didn’t know what to do. Wynonna gave him a gentle and patient smile. “It’s ok. I’ll stay with you. I’m pretty much self contained being the oldest, and I can help with Benny.” They at least waited until he was out of sight before muffled giggles erupted from them. A few minutes after he’d gotten into the shower, the bathroom door opened a crack and Waverly gave a polite knock. “Can I come in?” He dropped his clothes in the laundry basket and turned on the water to a scalding temperature, the room quickly filling with steam. Ben stepped under the spray of water and groaned as it washed over him, easing the tension in his muscles. He rolled his head slowly and paused when he found himself with his head down, watching the water circle the drain. He was lost in thought when the door opened and he looked over towards the door. “Yeah, sure. Is the smell of meat making you nauseous or something?” He joked stupidly, reaching to grab the bottle of shampoo so he could wash his hair. “What the hell am I supposed to do with that kid all day?” Waverly chuckled as she stepped into the bathroom then shut the door behind her. “No. I wanted to make sure you were ok. You looked a little panicked.” She took a seat on the only place available, both lids down, thank you. “You don’t have to do anything. Wynonna will help. Younger Wynonna that is. Not my sister. She seems to have a good grip on what to do.” “Me? Panicked? Yeah, I don’t think so.” Ben laughed and shook his head, laughing again at the clarification. “Don’t worry. I knew who you meant. She must take after you.” His fingers scrubbed at his scalp to lather up the shampoo, and he grabbed the bar of soap to wash over his body. He didn’t really need a shower, but nobody knew that. He had what he wanted after so many years, sitting around the table just outside of the room. It wouldn’t last, though - it never did. They would probably never exist, and it was just a unique form of torture for him. “At least he’s not in diapers. I would not be touching that with a ten foot pole.” The pressure from the water had caused a slight gap between the shower curtain and the wall so Waverly had a sneak peek at what was being washed. She wasn’t too proud not to grab a glance now and then. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t seen it…and more. But it was kind of fun to peek. “Well, it’s obvious who Benny takes after,” she said with a wry chuckle. “He’s got his daddy’s vocabulary.” Ben caught her looking at him, but he pretended otherwise and started to rinse off, tilting his head back to wash the shampoo out of his hair. "It's a good thing I'll have Wynonna." He commented idly, turning off the water. "I can't believe I named my son after me. That's a bit egotistical." He added as he pulled the curtain back to give her a clear view of his body. "And I can't believe we're actually married. Though, none of it is probably real." Ben reached out to grab a towel and pressed his face into it before he wrapped it around his waist. "It's just another way for the dome to fuck with our heads. This is why I prefer physical torture - it's less painful." Hey, if he wasn’t going to be modest, she wasn’t going to be shy. Not at this point. Waverly didn’t blush and didn’t look away. She did smirk for the brazen display, however. “Maybe I suggested he be named after you.” She lifted a brow at him. “People do it all the time. It’s not egotistical at all. I knew a family that had three generations of Johns all living at the same time.” She chuckled. “And apparently for a bazillion years.” The twins were a riot. The smile faded from her face leaving behind nothing but gentle caring. “Maybe it’s not torture. I mean, it could be the Dome saying This is what you could have.” It was a big risk to say something like that to Ben and Waverly knew it. But dammit, after the married thing and how that went to shit, she was done not talking about what she was thinking. "Please, never mention the name John again." Ben replied simply, not recalling if he had ever told her about his son. He moved past her to the bedroom so he could get dressed. He grabbed a pair of briefs and pulled them on before talking again. "You don't even know me, Waverly. You have no idea who I really am." He moved over to the closet and pulled out his suit and shield that had recently shown up. "This is what I wore back home. I used this shield to bash in someone's head." He shoved them back in the closet and went to the drawers to pull out a pair of pants and a shirt. "You represent all that is good in this world, while I have nothing but darkness." In all fairness, he didn't know her either, but if her sister wanted to protect her from him, he could only assume she was as sweet as she seemed. "None of it is ever real, and when it is, it doesn't last." “...ok.” No, she didn’t know about his son, but the name was obviously a sore spot. Waverly made note of it to add to the other pieces of the puzzle that was Ben. She followed him into the bedroom while he ranted. Apparently, they were back to this argument. At least they were back to where they were before the Dome messed with them. Him saying he was nothing but darkness and she was nothing but light. Waverly suppressed a sigh. She wasn’t surprised in the least about the shield and suit. He’d told her some of what happened back in his home. She also knew what he could be capable of. Ben wasn’t that big of an enigma. “Are you finished?” she asked after he labeled them both. She looked at him for a moment then closed the distance between them. Waverly stopped right in front of him, looking up into his face. She let silence fill the air as she placed her palms on either side of his jaw, her thumb brushing gently against his skin. Her eyes picked over the details of his features before settling on his eyes. A tender smile lifted her lips declaring that she didn’t just like what she saw, she approved. “The light can’t be defined without dark. You can’t have a candle without shadows. One needs the other in order to exist.” Her voice was quiet, calm but decisive. But before he could respond, she leaned up to kiss him. Ben looked down at her and gazed into her eyes with longing. “I don’t like it when you make sense.” He huffed grumpily, though he was far from upset about it. “There’s just…” his eyes closed, and he took a deep breath, enjoying the tender touch of her soft hands against his face. Everything felt better when she was around, and when she wasn’t, the darkness seemed to consume him more than ever. He was afraid to let go of the weight that held him down. Afraid to let her in too much only to lose her. But what if he had to watch her be happy with someone else? That would be worse - wouldn’t it? His arms moved to wrap around her body and he hoisted her up against him, kissing her hungrily. “I need you,” he whispered hotly, moving to push her up against the wall, his hand rubbing between her legs. Those three words were huge for him. There was a difference between those and whatever he’d say when he just wanted sex. With those words echoing in her ears, Waverly got lost in the kiss. But when her back connected with the wall and he began to take this further, she whimpered to get his attention and tried to push him back a little. “Ben…mmm.” Kissing and fingers. No! No. “Stop. Kids in the next room and I didn’t lock the door.” "I don't fucking care," he growled in protest. If they really had been married for that long, he was sure the kids would have walked in on them at least once. Still, Ben pulled her away from the wall and carried her over to the door so he could lock it. "Is that better now?" The look that she gave him told him all he needed to know and he set her back down on the floor. "Stupid fucking kids ruining everything by being little cockblocks. I swear." He grumbled under his breath and fell back against the bed, groaning as both hands rubbed briskly over his face. "You work me up and then turn me down? Not cool, Waverly." She chuckled as she picked up a pillow to toss onto his face. “You know that’s not what I meant by that kiss. You’re just trying to be all…you…about having smooshy feelings.” Waverly picked up the pillow as if to bonk him with it. “And I did tell you ‘later’.” She didn’t hit him with it, however. Inst)ead, she placed it where it belonged. “Now, c’mon, Dad. We need to get to know our kids.” "It's still a tease unless it's right now!" Ben continued to pout, taking a deep breath as he moved to sit up. "I guess I should put on some damn clothes, then." He huffed as he pulled on the clothes he removed from the dresser. He was still reluctant to embrace whatever this was, but he took Waverly's hand and walked out of the room with her, smiling brightly. "Alright. Where's the King's food? I'm starving." His eyes nearly bulged out of his head when he was presented with a large plate of eggs and bacon. "Fuck. Can I keep you?" Ben asked Wynonna, who just laughed in response and set down some coffee for him. Benny looked over at Ben and Waverly, hesitating before he spoke. "I can hear everything," he practically whispered, and Elise snickered. "If the two of you plan to have sex later, we should take Benny out. He has super hearing and this place is really small." |
