Who: Claudia Donovan and Cosima Niehaus What: a marriage proposal Where: their house When: Saturday, February 26. Warnings: should be mainly cute Status: g-doc
Claudia took the afternoon off from work. She hadn’t planned on it, but her nerves regarding this proposal distracted her enough that the redhead decided to say fuck it and head home. After a shower, Claudia ensured everything for the proposal was ready: a bottle of champagne chilled in the fridge, the ring would be added to Minerva’s collar closer to when Cosima came home from work. She looked cute, but not so obviously overdone for a special night.
About twenty minutes before Cosima’s scheduled arrival home, Claudia found their fur baby in her spot on their bed. “Hey Minerva.” Minerva Whiskers greeted Claudia with sleepy eyes and a purr. The redhead undid Minerva’s collar and slipped the ring on it, before she clipped it back on her cat. She waited, though, before picking up the cat. No sense in it until Cosima arrived home.
Cosima had absolutely no idea what she was about to walk into when she arrived home from work that evening – Claudia had done an excellent job in not alerting her to the fact that the question was about to be popped. So she walked into the house she shared with her girlfriend, expecting another normal night.
“Hey, Claud,” she said, once she stepped inside. To alert her that she had arrived home. “Where are you? …where’s my precious kitty as well?”
Yes, Cosima was rather fond of Minerva. She had grown rather attached to her. Enough to cuddle her when she slept if Claudia weren’t home. …cats were the best cuddlers.
When the redhead heard the door and Cosima’s arrival, she looked at Minerva. “Show time, cutie pie.” The cat offered a sleepy protest when Claudia picked her up off the bed, but Minerva didn’t mind being held most of the time.
“We’ll be right there,” Claudia called down to her beautiful girlfriend. She’d considered asking Cosima to look at Minerva because she felt concerned about a spot, but that didn’t seem like the most auspicious way to begin an engagement.
One more deep breath and she walked down the stairs to where Cosima stood. “Someone wanted to say hi to you.” Claudia kissed her girlfriend’s cheek and proceeded to pass their fur baby to Cosima.
Being greeted by both Claudia and Minerva at the same time wasn’t too terribly unusual. Usually it was Claudia coming to greet her with a kiss, and Minerva weaving between her feet, meowing and purring and insisting she hadn’t eaten yet. Which, nine times out of ten, she had. It was very rare that Claudia greeted her holding Minerva. What threw her off with the greeting the most, though, was the fact that Claudia handed her the cat. Cosima couldn’t remember if that had ever happened in their entire relationship.
She decided to ignore the strangeness of the situation, and snuggled against the cat that was handed to her. She scratched behind her ears, nuzzling against the warm purring machine she had just been handed.
Then her hand brushed against something that felt… unusual for Minerva. It was hard and smooth and attached to her collar and… she was able to slip her finger through the item. Curious, she peered at the item, and gasped softly.
“I’m so very sorry, Minerva, I am flattered, but… I cannot marry a cat.” She pressed a kiss against the top of Minerva’s head, and then peered over at the redhead. “But I will marry you.”
The redhead watched as Minerva looked a bit confused to be passed back to Cosima, although her purring didn’t stop. And, once they set her down, more than likely she’d begin to demand dinner. Since Claudia hadn’t fed her yet, at least this time she wouldn’t lie.
Claudia moved closer to Cosima and kissed her on the lips, before she gently removed Minerva’s collar, and slid the ring off the collar. “I love you Cosima. And I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life here with you.” At this point, Minerva had quite enough and, after Claudia secured her collar again, she hopped back to the ground and started weaving between the women’s legs for dinner.
“I have champagne ready. Would you like some?”
Cosima pressed her lips against Claudia’s, returning the woman’s kiss. She had not expected to be proposed to this evening – but she definitely was not complaining. That would be rather silly – complaining about a marriage proposal by the woman she was absolutely in love with. The woman she wanted to spend as much of her life with as possible.
She kissed Clauda once more, and nodded. “I would love some champagne,” she said, with a small smile. “And I believe Minerva has had enough of our shenanigans and thinks it’s time for dinner.” At these words, Minerva meowed rather loudly, as though agreeing with Cosima.
“I love you, Claudia,” she said, softly. “I want to spend as much time with you as I possibly can. …so of course we’re getting married.”
Claudia couldn’t keep the smile off her face. At all. She hadn’t realized how worried a possible no weighed on her until just now. “I’ll get the champagne while you feed Minerva? I bought her extra bougie food tonight for putting up with our shenanigans.”
She poured champagne and handed a glass to her now fiancee. “I told work I might be a little late tomorrow.” Once of the benefits of being the boss now, nobody cared if she showed up an hour or two late the night after she proposed.
“Minerva definitely deserves extra bougie food tonight,” she said, grinning at Claudia. As Claudia poured the champagne, Cosima located said extra bougie food for the cat. She had the cat-feeding down to a science at this point, she knew exactly how Minerva liked it. Especially when it came to the fancy stuff.
After this was done, she gladly took the glass from Claudia. She leaned in and kissed her softly before taking a sip from the champagne glass.
“Good. Because I plan on wearing you out tonight so you’ll have to sleep in a bit tomorrow,” she said, grinning a bit mischeivously.
Minerva voiced her pleasure about the fancy food and Claudia knew they’d been forgiven for the last twenty minutes or so. She loved her life here and felt pleased as punch about it.
Claudia took a sip and closed her eyes. “Should we encourage Minerva to sleep in her own room tonight?” Yes, their cat had her own little sectioned off area with cat furniture. The two women might be spoiling their cat a little.
“Excellent, because I had similar thoughts,” Claudia mentioned with a gleam in her eyes. “Should we bring the champagne upstairs with us right now or actually eat some food first? Fortify us for the evening as it were, fiancee?”
"I think we should take our champagne upstairs right now. I'm not sure if I am patient enough to sit through eating a meal when all I want is to get your clothes off you and have my way with you," she said, honestly. "We can always order delivery later to fortify ourselves. A little break, if you will."
It sounded like an excellent plan. To Cosima, at least. Sleep with Claudia, eat some food, sleep with Claudia again.
