Luna looked at the meal she’d prepared for dinner. She could use magic, but the witch preferred to use muggle tools for cooking, like an actual labour of love. Tonight, she made ravioli with homemade marinara sauce and salad, complete with lavender and honey and cookies and cream gelato she’d grabbed. The witch didn’t really want to try creating gelato yet.
After checking the time, Luna nodded. Anakin should be home soon and dinner would be ready shortly afterwards. A cup of English Breakfast in hand, the blonde savoured the astringency of her drink, in her kitchen. That she now owned with her boyfriend. Luna still hadn’t decided on how she wanted to decorate, but right now she knew they had time.
Anakin couldn’t quite wrap his head around the fact that he was dating someone here in Madison Valley. He had loved Padme back home, and had been holding out hope that she would appear here. He still loved Padme, and he felt that he always would. It seemed that Luna had managed to win his heart as well, though. Without Padme here, and with Anakin having been in Madison Valley for as long as he had – he felt that she would understand that he had found someone here to love.
And love Luna he did. He hadn’t admitted as much to her, but he did. He wouldn’t have purchased a house with her if he didn’t love her.
He rather enjoyed coming home from work when Luna was there already. He liked her face being the first one he saw once he was off work. And tonight was no different. Especially since, when he entered the house, his senses were bombarded by the good smells coming from the kitchen.
“It smells delicious in here,” he said. He knew Luna was in the kitchen, and not because of the smells of dinner cooking – he could sense her there. So that is where he headed. “Hello, Luna,” he said, once she came into view.
The blonde never wanted Anakin to feel like she made him choose between her and Padme. If Padme ever arrived in Madison Valley, they’d figure out how to navigate the situation. For Luna, she loved Anakin, but she didn’t want to replace Padme, just find a different spot in her boyfriend’s heart.
Luna moved to greet Anakin. “Hi Anakin.” She made her way over to offer her boyfriend a hug in greeting. “I didn’t know if you’d be interested, but I found a new drink to try. It’s a club soda with juniper and sumac in it. A few are chilling in the refrigerator.” They might not drink alcohol, but it didn’t mean they couldn’t try fun non alcoholic drinks.
“I’m glad. I wasn’t sure how this recipe would turn out.” She considered buying a pasta maker, to make pasta herself, but the witch didn’t have all the time in the world for these things.
Anakin wrapped his arms around Luna, pulling her in close for a tight hug. He missed her while he was at work, though he was fully aware that both work and time apart were important things. Especially while living together. Too much time together could be too much, could be disastrous.
“If the smell is anything to go by, the recipe turned out great.”
He wasn’t one to just give compliments just for the sake of giving compliments, either. If he didn’t like something, he would say it.
He placed a kiss against her lips, kissing her softly. “Thank you for cooking.”
The soft kiss brought a smile to the witch’s face, as did the tight hug. Given that Luna tended to spend a lot of time by herself, she required alone time to recharge. She usually worked her schedule so that she had some time to herself while Anakin was at work. Today just worked out that she had the day off, so she could sit and read before starting dinner.
“Thank you, Anakin.” Luna knew Anakin meant the things he said, which she greatly appreciated. “You’ve been working all day. Cooking seemed fair.”
She walked back into the kitchen. “I’m wondering if I should invest in a pasta maker, but then I wonder if I really have the time for one.” After putting on water for tea, she asked, “What would you like to drink?”
Anakin understood that Luna needed time to recharge. His job was different – he wasn’t required to work with people often throughout the day. He worked with cars – repairing them, basic car maintenance, really anything mechanical. It was a job he enjoyed, a job he knew how to do. So he had a chance to recharge while at work, because it didn’t require a lot of personal time with people.
“I think you should perhaps invest in one,” he said. “If you’ve been thinking about it, then I think you will find the time to make use of it. Even if it is just once in a while, it will still be used.” Then, at Luna’s question, “I would like to try the club soda you purchased.” It sounded interesting and something he was interested in trying. At least once.
He was quiet for a moment as he followed Luna into the kitchen. He had been thinking a lot recently, and he thought he should share some of the thoughts with Luna. It was just taking some time to properly organize his thoughts so they’d come across correctly.
“I’m scared, Luna,” he said, softly, deciding to just start with it. “The last time I loved a person the way I love you a lot of bad things ended up happening,” he explained. “While I do not believe they will happen here, and while I know it was not Padme’s fault in the slightest… nor would it be your fault.. I still can’t help but be a little scared that it might happen.”
She nodded, because what Anakin said about the pasta made sense. And, Luna liked to be in the kitchen. “I can make my own ravioli.” The idea pleased the blonde an awful lot, in fact. After pouring the club soda over ice, the witch passed the glass to her boyfriend.
When Anakin started to speak, Luna listened, holding her own glass of club soda. She hadn’t quite known where he intended to go with this conversation and so she blinked a few times as he spoke. Well, this certainly seemed like a unique way to tell a significant other you loved them.
“How can I help?” Luna couldn’t think of anything else to ask and it seemed important to her. “It’s okay to be scared. A lot of bad things happened back home.” Two things made her feel slightly less concerned, they weren’t in his home and they didn’t have to hide their relationship.
"I'm…not completely sure," Anakin admitted. He wasn't exactly sure what all Luna knew about his world, about his future. "Padme was quite pregnant when I got pulled here – not a lot of people knew who the father was, except the two of us. Obi-Wan figured it out."
He sighed softly, staring at the glass in his hand. "She dies shortly after the babies are born and it's my fault and I don't want to hurt you like I hurt her even though I didn't mean to and…I'm scared." He had never admitted to being scared to anyone. "Yoda was right about fear and anger leading to the Dark Side and I have a lot of both…"
He eyed his girlfriend for a moment. "If I start getting angrier than usual just tell me to simmer down a bit? Or have Artoo do it."
From what Luna knew, having finally watched all nine movies, the fact it took Obi-Wan as long as it did surprised her more. He struck Luna as rather observant and smart. “Of course he did.” But then she gave Anakin the space to finish speaking.
“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry that she dies and that the babies are born without their mother.” She looked thoughtfully at the kettle boiling. “We aren’t there, though, Anakin. We’re here. You don’t have to hide our relationship.” Luna moved to pour the freshly boiled water over her bag of English Breakfast tea. “If you think that will help, then I’ll certainly tell you…”
After moving to take milk out of the fridge for her tea, Luna checked on dinner. “There are therapists in town, Anakin…perhaps speaking with one of them might help?”
Anakin hadn’t known Luna had watched all of the movies – he hadn’t been able to do that himself. He would not hold that against her in the slightest, though. He would have done the same thing, had he been in her position. When Luna agreed to tell him if he was becoming angrier than usual, he nodded slightly. “I think it would,” he said. He didn’t think he would hold it against Luna, either. Though he’d held a lot of anger toward Obi-Wan in the end, so there was always the chance.
He took a step toward his girlfriend, and pressed a kiss against her lips. Then moved the kiss to her jawline.
“Bruce Banner has been a big help with the anger,” he told her. “But it is unfair to place it all on his shoulders. So… perhaps I will speak to one of the therapists in town. It couldn’t hurt.” He would do anything for Luna. And anything to make sure he wasn’t angry anymore.
Luna looked at Anakin after the kiss. “I love you. So, whatever you need we’ll figure it out. Together. That’s what couples do.” While it shouldn’t fall on one person, that didn’t mean the blonde didn’t want to help her boyfriend.
She’d watched the movies not long after meeting Anakin. As far as movies went, she’d honestly loved Artoo and Leia. The rest of the people seemed kind of like idiots at times.
Her mouth kissed, Anakin. “Come on. Dinner and then you can take me upstairs, if you want.” But, Luna really wanted to eat the dinner she made before it got cold.
No, it shouldn’t all fall on one person. Anakin was fully aware of that. He didn’t plan on putting it all on his girlfriend, either. He knew that would be unfair to her and it might cause a bit of friction in their relationship as well.
He returned the kiss given to him by Luna, and offered her a small smile.
“Yes, I definitely want to take you upstairs after we eat,” he said. He did not want the food she had made to get cold, either. He was hungry, and for more than just Luna. Besides, she had put a lot of effort into dinner. He didn’t want that to go to waste.
