Who: Lisa Braeden & Dean Winchester
Where: Their House
When: During the Power Outage
Warnings: low
Lisa was cuddled by the fireplace and Charlie was swaddled in blankets in her swing. Lisa pushed the swing gently as she idly flipped through a magazine. The flickering fire illuminated the pages enough for Lisa to make out the pictures and even skim the text. Obviously, the daylight helped too, but with the power out, there wasn’t really much to do. Dean had made sure they had plenty of food to eat and that the fireplace was lit daily. Lisa couldn’t ask for more. He’d even agreed to go to the Red Pepper and pick up a few of those meals for the two of them. Not that they necessarily needed it with all the non-perishable food they had in the pantry, but it would be nice to eat something that didn’t come out of a can at least once. While Dean was more than capable of roughing it, this was not an ideal situation for a newborn. He had thought about rigging up a generator to the house, but that seemed too dangerous, and he didn't want to risk Lisa or Charlie getting hurt. Food was the least of his concerns, though. It was easy enough to start a fire out back, plus they had a grill, and an old fashioned cook out seemed like it would be fun. The only issue was, they were going to lose whatever they had in the freezer and refrigerator if the power did come back soon enough. While he was confident in his ability to cook a proper meal for his fiancee, Lisa really wanted him to get some of the meal kits from the Red Pepper, so he did. The sun had started to set and Dean went outside to grab some more wood so he wouldn't have to do it in the middle of the night. They had moved to the living room for the time being and he collapsed against the couch with a tired groan, hands rubbing over his face. Without hot water, taking a shower wasn't the easiest thing to do, and he had just been cleaning himself off with a washcloth and soap, which didn't really seem to be cutting it. Filling the tub was a serious pain in the ass, so he only bothered if Lisa asked for herself. "I swear, I really don't know how anyone survived before power existed. This is fucking exhausting." No. Bathing was difficult and given how much work Dean needed to do so she could bathe herself? Lisa rarely asked for herself. She asked for Charlie because the baby should be bathed often, but Charlie was the only exception. Otherwise, it was a washcloth and soap for Dean and Lisa. Even without filling the tube, Dean was slaving away keeping the fireplace going and making sure they had plenty of food on the table. Obviously, Lisa appreciated everything he did and she knew Charlie did too. Setting aside her magazine, Lisa scooted closer to Dean and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “I know. I’m sorry. You’ve been slaving away trying to keep us warm and fed,” Lisa replied. “We both appreciate it, but I know how tired it has made you.” And Lisa felt badly that there wasn’t more she could do to help him with those chores. “Hey, if you want I could make you something on the grill. You could spend some time with Charlie while I do.” His arm moved to wrap around Lisa and he held her close, leaning his head against her. "Nah, I'm fine, don't worry. I might take a little nap though." Even though he complained, he was happy to take care of Lisa and Charlie and he would do it every single day if he had to. It was better than the alternative of not having them at all. “It hasn’t even been a month. I know you’re fully capable, but I want you to relax while you have the opportunity.” His fingers ran through her hair slowly, and he shifted against her, pressing a kiss to her jaw. “I’m not really hungry at the moment, and no, I do not have a fever. I just ate a granola bar.” He made a gagging sound at that and shook his head. “I can’t believe people eat those willingly. So dry. It might be good dipped in milk, though. Maybe I’ll try that when we have milk again.” Dean moved to grab the blanket behind them and tossed it over them. “I’m probably being dramatic, but it feels like the only time we’re together is at night in bed.” When he arm wrapped around her shoulders, Lisa snuggled against his shoulder. “After everything you do for us, you deserve one.” She knew Dean was happy to care for both of them and would do anything for them. That didn’t mean the brunette didn’t worry about him. She knew it was easy to forget to take care of yourself when you were taking care of other people, especially family. Lisa wanted to make sure Dean was looking after himself too. “And you know I appreciate that. I just want you to be able to relax too.” Lisa leaned into his touch, enjoying the feeling of his fingers in her hair. A smile formed on her lips at the light kiss to her jaw. Lisa couldn’t help, but laugh when Dean made a gagging noise. No, she couldn’t imagine him enjoying a granola bar. Some of the varieties were very dry and you definitely needed something to drink when you consumed them. “I know they can be a bit gross, but when we have milk again, you are welcome to dip them in your glass anytime you want,” Lisa offered, pressing a kiss to his cheek, the stubble tickling her. As Dean pulled a blanket over them, Lisa looked over at Charlie, but the baby was sleeping, her soft breathing audible over the sounds of the crackling fireplace. At the sight, Lisa allowed herself to relax and she turned back to Dean. A hand cupped his cheek and she nodded. “I know. Between Charlie’s birth and this power outage, it feels like we haven’t had a lot of time to ourselves, but both Sam and Shosanna offered to take Charlie for a night if we wanted. I told them I would talk to you about it, but then this whole thing happened and it kind of slipped my mind till now.” "You girls are my family. I love you, and I would work to take care of you both until I collapsed in exhaustion, and then I'd still get back up right after. For you, and for her." Dean replied softly, eyes fluttering from her touch. "You're going to be my wi-" he paused for a beat and laid his head back against the couch, his gaze up on the ceiling. It reminded him they really needed to start planning if she wanted to get married this summer. "Every single thing that I get to do for you and her is a gift." He assured her with a smile, his hand moving to rub over her knee beneath the blanket. Dean cocked his head in thought, entertaining the idea. "What are your thoughts on it?" His gaze drifted to Charlie, who was fast asleep, and he couldn't help but smile. "It's not like we can do much of anything right now. Other than what we're doing now. She's been pretty good so far, and I'm not really sure I would be able to leave her. I mean, I trust Sam and Sho, of course, but you know me. I wouldn't be able to stop worrying and it would defeat the purpose." Dean’s words touched Lisa deeply. Yes, Dean had his faults, everyone did, but when he loved, when he cared, he did it with every fiber of his being. He gave until there was nothing left and Lisa loved him for it. Before Lisa could respond, Dean broke off and laid his head back against the couch, his green eyes on the ceiling. Yes, they had a wedding they needed to start planning if they were going to get married this summer and Lisa did want them to get married then. “How about we look at a calendar tomorrow and finally pick a date, hm? I think we can still manage to get married this summer even if it is just a small wedding,” Lisa offered, leaning back against the couch, an elbow propped against the cushion and her head in the palm of her hand. Honestly, Lisa had no issue with a small wedding. At his words, Lisa smiled again and leaned over to press a kiss to his temple. “I know. It goes both ways, everything I get to do for you and her I consider a gift too.” It was the life she’d always wanted for Dean and for herself. Yes, she missed Ben everyday, but even with his absence, Lisa found that she was happy. Despite the Dome’s shenanigans, she had a good life here and she wasn’t about to waste it. Lisa shifted back against the couch, resting a hand on Dean’s knee beneath the blanket as she looked over at him. “And I know you’d be worried. I would be too. I’m willing to consider the option, but I think we should hold off until she is a bit older. Maybe like two months at least. Letting someone have her for even a night could throw off her routine and babies and routines are kind of a big deal,” Lisa replied honestly. And they had just settled Charlie into a routine. Lisa wanted to make sure that was solidified before they switched it up on her. “Yes. I think picking a date is an excellent start. Not that I really know much about planning weddings anyway.” He nodded in agreement, thinking it over. "Are you wanting something outdoors? I'm happy to go with whatever you want. My only request is that there's no church involved." After all he had been through, and what he knew, he didn't see the point in any of that. "I want you to have the wedding of your dreams." Dean reached over to run his fingers through her hair, a faint smile on his face. "Okay, good. I'm glad we're on the same page with that. I'm more than okay with holding off." Dean moved to pull her on his lap and held her close, kissing the back of her neck. "How are you feeling, by the way? I wish I could set you up with a hot bubble bath and some champagne." His hands moved to rub over her legs in a smoothing motion. "When the power finally comes back on, you should take a trip to the spa and get yourself reenergized or something. If you need it, anyway." “I think outdoors would be nice, especially in the summer. And no, we don’t have to involve a church. I’m more than okay with that.” For Lisa, having the chance to say her vows with Dean was the part that mattered the most. Having that moment in front of everyone that cared about them mattered most. Given Dean’s history with everything religion related, she didn’t blame him for not wanting the church involved and Lisa, having never been very religious herself, was okay with that. As Deans settled her on his lap, Lisa wrapped an arm around his shoulders, goosebumps rising on her skin as he kissed her neck. “I’m okay. It’s going to take me a bit to get back into yoga shape, but I’m slowly getting there.” Lisa played with the ends of Dean’s hair at the nap of his neck. As Dean’s hands shifted over her legs, the brunette was grateful she was still able to shave even if she nicked herself a few times. Shaving by candlelight was not the easiest by far. Leaning in, she pressed a kiss to his cheek. “I promise I will look into a spa day. As much as I enjoy you running me a bath and serving me champagne, after the power is back, I think you need some time to relax too. Do something with Sam for a day.” “Did you have a place in mind?” Dean hadn’t paid much attention to any possible venues, but he was happy with whatever Lisa wanted. So long as the food was good and there was alcohol. His eyes closed and he enjoyed the touch of her fingers against him. It would have been an ideal opportunity for sex, but she still wasn’t cleared for that. “Okay, fine. I will look into spending some time with Sam when the power is back. You sure do drive a hard bargain.” He teased playfully, finding himself close to falling asleep. “Sure you don’t need anything?” “Possibly by the river?” Lisa offered. “Or maybe a section of the park?” If it was going to be outside during the summer, Lisa wanted it to be in a location with the most access to nature. Unfortunately, Lisa was not cleared to indulge in any of those activities yet, but she still enjoyed simply cuddling with Dean. This was one of the few quiet moments they had together and Lisa wanted to savor every second of it. She loved Charlie, but after hearing your daughter wail for more than just a few minutes, you really started to appreciate the moments where it was just…quiet. Lisa giggled. “Don’t I always?” She teased. Lisa noticed Dean was starting to doze and the brunette quickly shook her head. “No, I’m fine. I promise. Why don’t you close your eyes for a bit? Charlie and I will be okay without you for an hour.” “Ooh, on the river could be nice. I wouldn’t mind the park either, just wouldn’t want to deal with any bugs.” Aside from the weather, that would be the second biggest concern with having an outdoors wedding. It was easy to fall asleep like this. With Lisa in his lap, buried under a blanket in front of the fire place. His eyes closed and he focused on the crackle of the fire, shifting against the couch. “Okay, wake me if you need anything. Love you.” |
