Belle took a few minutes after sending that last minutes to put herself together, fussing needlessly with her clothes--taking time to find where she'd tossed her cardigan even though there was only the lightest breeze, debating over wearing sneakers or flats (settling on the latter)--to try to get her thoughts together.
It wasn't as if she hadn't had time to think about this, she just hadn't, not as much as she should have. She'd meant to talk to Rumple about coming to stay in the Church, having him talk to Michael and find that he wasn't like the worst of the holy men in their land. Of course, she understood his reluctance and some of the others, but with the restrictions on how the magical people could live outside the Church's walls without inference growing daily...
Well, she couldn't, at least, not try to get him to come somewhere where he wouldn't be treated like a monster. Because she believed Michael would be sure that, as long as he didn't injure others, they would give him the same respect.
She ran over her thoughts on the short walk to the apartments, not sure how she'd convince him--they haven't hurt me, so they're trustworthy didn't hold as much water as she'd have liked. And, as they both knew, she was still far too trusting for her own good.
Exhaling as she got to his door, she took another moment to hesitate--pulling out the tie she'd put in her hair and shaking it out--before knocking.
