Who: Leonard and Open
When: Tuesday night
What: Contemplating
Where: Verdant
Status: Open; Incomplete
Rating: TBD, but probably not high

Normally, after a shift, Leonard would head back to his apartment or Sara's place. However, seeing as he was headed back to his place tonight, he lingered at the bar and ordered himself a beer, along with a basket of fries. What awaited him was hours of Netflix and boredom, neither of which he was eager to entertain at he moment. Though, at least the Netflix was enough to keep him distracted. Otherwise, every time he closed his eyes, he saw his swan song at the Vanishing Point and even though he'd made peace with the choice in that moment, it still haunted his dreams. The heat, the impending explosion as his entire being was scattered everywhere. No, he'd done what he thought was right and saved Mick, saved everyone, and for that? He'd never regret it or so he told himself in that moment when he knew he'd never see Mick or Sara again. When he knew he'd never see Lisa again.

Leonard reached for his beer and took a sip. To stop those memories, Leonard would need something a hell of a lot stronger than a beer. At least he had a chance to see Sara again, to have that future he'd glimpsed briefly when she'd kissed him that first and last time. It was more than Leonard ever expected and more than he knew he deserved. This place had turned out to be the blessing he never saw coming even as it and its strange happenings also be one hell of a curse on occasion. His time in the Upside Down had taught him that. Not surprising, Sara had saved his ass...again. There was no other woman on the planet that could make kicking butt look so attractive.

The thief turned his attention back to his fries, dipping a few in ketchup before popping them in his mouth. Another few minutes and he'd head home.

Nesta found herself at Verdant on a night off from the Den. She probably should go home, but that didn't sound like something that the High Fey actually wanted to do.

Her apartment would be quiet and even with the four locks, Nesta didn't want the quiet and the memories which left her feeling unsafe. Maybe she'd pick up someone and go home, but definitely not the man at the bar eating fries. He looked as high on life as Nesta did.

"Does ketchup really make the fries taste any better?" Nesta ate exactly enough food to not starve, but like Rhys she also suffered from the fact human food tasted like nothing or ash to her.

Leonard wasn't expecting anyone to address him given how depressed he currently looked. However, when the woman beside him spoke up, he offered her a shrug in response. Truthfully, Leonard always thought it was the salt that added flavor to the fries. The ketchup was just a bonus. Of course, other people could see it far differently.

"I always thought it was the salt," Leonard replied, holding up a fry as if inspecting before he dropped it back down into the basket with the few that remained. "Ketchup always just seems like a bonus."

Nesta recognized that look. She wore it often when nobody else saw her, during the times she had to let down the armour she wore. Nobody could keep up mental armour 24/7, not even someone as determined as Nesta.

"Salt might be the only thing that tastes remotely like its counterpart at home." At least alcohol still burned the same, which the High Fey needed. Anything to not think for a few moments.

"I've never tried ketchup," Nesta admitted.

"What's home for you?" Leonard asked, reaching for his beer and taking a sip. It was clear that his foul mood did not put a damper on his constant curiosity. Plus, with the way she spoke, it sounded as if the substance in her world was vastly different than here.

At her words, Leonard set aside his beer and nudged the basket towards her along with the plate he'd used for his ketchup. "Would you like to give it a try now? I promise I don't have coodies or anything."

Talk about a simple and yet complicated question. "Prythian. The Night Court. At least, it's where I live." She couldn't allow herself to think of it as home, because she didn't deserve a home. "It's the land of Faerie."

She shrugged and took a fry, which taste like a lot of nothing to the High Fae. Nesta dipped it in a little ketchup and bit into the fry. As Nesta chewed, she kept her face neutral, as the taste of ash coated her tongue.

Nesta looked a little awkward. Human food didn't... "I think I'll stick to regular fries. But thank you for allowing me to try it." Which sounded far more diplomatic than it turned to ash on my tongue.

It was always fascinating for Leonard to hear about the places other refugees called ‘home.’ Of course, he’d never heard of it, so Leonard merely nodded. Obviously, it had something to do with fairies(?), but that was all he could gather from her statement. Oh, and that the food there clearly tasted better than anything here.

While her face had betrayed nothing, Leonard wasn’t really surprised when she pushed the basket back and said she’d stick to regular fries. Apparently, the ketchup might have made her entire experience even worse.

“Yeah, I always just stick to salt too.” Leonard took another sip from his beer before glancing over at her again. “So, what exactly does it taste like for you anyway? Color me curious.”

She realized there hadn't been a lot of information in her statement. "In my world, there are two realms: human and fae. Once upon a time I lived with the humans as one, before a tyrant forced me to become High Fey." Nesta tried really hard to keep her voice neutral. We have seven courts all ruled by a High Lord: Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring." Her voice took on a sneering tone when she mentioned Spring.

"And then Nigh, Day, and Dawn. The High Lord of the Night Court, technically my High Lord, is also here. It's...beautiful and deadly, as are most Fae." Nesta missed it in a way she never thought possible.

"Fries taste like nothing. Salt has a taste here, but like someone diluted it with a lot of water. Most human food tastes like anything from nothing to ash." Nesta craved food that tasted good to her almost as she craved sex to keep the darkness at bay. "Makes food an adventure for both Rhysand and myself."

Leonard listened intently as she described her world. He noted the sneering tone at the mention of Spring. Also, the wistfulness in her voice when she described how beautiful and deadly it was. Regardless, it was all interesting things to Leonard. It was a world he'd never experienced and it fascinated him.

"It sounds like an interesting place. To put it lightly of course," Leonard replied. "Maybe this place will let us see it someday." Leonard was up for visiting new places...as long as it wasn't the Upside Down.

He couldn't imagine food tasting like ash in his mouth, but then again, he'd never experienced it. He'd tasted bad food, burnt food, but nothing that tasted like pure ash. That had to be horrible for them both.

"I think saying it makes it an adventure it putting it lightly," Leonard countered with a small smirk.

Nesta despised the Spring Court. Or, rather, she despised Tamlin, the High Lord. How could she not when he'd basically held her sister captive in an attempt to control and 'protect' her. That he'd locked her in his mansion after Feyre's trauma from being trapped by Amarantha for months in a cell. The High Fey knew a few things for certain and she'd never forgive Tamlin.

"Interesting is a good descriptor," Nesta responded, keeping her voice neutral. "I ...hope so. I miss it," which surprised Nesta as she spoke.

She laughed. "Rhysand and I may not agree or like each other, but if we find a food that tastes better than ash we usually text the other one." Another complicated relationship obviously. "What's home like for you?"

Leonard could tell she missed it by the way she spoken of her home world. He couldn't say there weren't things he missed from Central City, particularly his sister, or the Waverider. However, he wouldn't trade his life here for any of that, even Lisa. He finally had Sara and a sliver of happiness. Leonard didn't want to lose it.

"It's a relief to hear some things don't taste that terrible to you," Leonard replied. "And I suppose you could say my world is a like Madison Valley. Except I came from a city and then travelled on a time travelling ship afterwards."

"A month ago the thought of time travelling wouldn't occur to me. And now here I am nodding like you said you enjoy pasta." Nesta smiled, small, but it still was there.

"I agree. I do appreciate not starving." Even if she'd stopped eating most of the time back home. Here, she'd started to put on a little weight, which helped her with dancing. Finishing her drink, Nesta put some cash down to pay for it.

"Maybe I'll see you around." And stopped. "I'm Nesta, by the way."

"This place makes a lot of things believable," Leonard replied. Before coming here, Leonard wouldn't have even considered the possibility of a land of Fae either.

Leonard chuckled. "I'm not surprised by that. I feel like anyone would appreciate not starving." At least something was edible here for the two of them.

The thief watched her polish off her drink and toss some cash on the counter. He would be going too. Nefflix was calling his name after all.

"Leonard. Nice to meet you and yeah, you probably will if you frequent this place. I work security here," Leonard replied. "But have a good rest of the night."

"Nice to meet you too, Leonard." And with that Nesta left.
