Murphy hated being an adult. He generally liked that he'd grown into a functional human being and not the hot mess of rage he'd been for so long, but that adulting thing? Was vastly overrated. And there was only so long he could put off the thousand and one things he had to do. Like grocery shopping.
And because he was apparently a masochist, he was shopping at work on his day off. He knew it was just a matter of time before somebody asked him a question. Most of the time it wasn't a big deal, because he'd just politely say he was off the clock and point them in the direction of somebody who could help them. But there were a certain special few who didn't seem to understand what "off the clock" meant. Or didn't care. Or somehow, some weird combination of both.
So far so good, though, which was a good thing -- he was barely in the mood for human interaction in general, let alone human interaction with stupid people.
He'd managed to get through the majority of his list -- oh God he had an actual list, what the hell kind of person had he become -- before anyone interrupted him. And of course it had to be one of the least enjoyable ones. He was used to telling this one to go away, though, he'd done it often enough. And once that was done, he was able to move on with the rest of his shopping in peace.
Even if that did mean entirely too much time in the produce department, trying to figure out what he could probably get his kids to eat.
