Who: Adam and Savannah What: Sav admits that Kol drinks her blood. Or drank her blood Where: Adam’s When: immediately after this Warnings: low,, but definite mentions of blood-drinking Status: closed/g-doc
After some bourbon with Kol, the witch made a slow jaunt to Adam’s. She texted him so he knew of her plans to see him. Honestly, Savannah wanted to puke a little. While she’d made the deal with Kol at the orgy, so before Q or Adam, Kol kept it from his girlfriend, Sav’s friend, for months. Eve following her and showing up told her she’d probably messed up, although she hadn’t fucking appreciated her mother showing up like a damn spy. At least she and Kol drank to the end of an era; of blood drinking, and to their friendship. In his weird way, Kol had been more dependable to her than Adam some of the time. Not lately, not once Adam returned from home, but in the early months of her arrival? Yes.
Tonight would tell her whether or not she and Adam really should be together in this place or if they should just be grateful for what awaited them back home.
When she got to Adam’s, it took all of Savannah’s will-power to not sit on the step like she had a month ago, when the Dome brought her back to this place. Instead, she stood at the door, dressed in jeans, a tank-top, and a leather jacket over top. After all, she’d originally dressed for a vampire to feed from her.
Ever since his conversation with Eve, Adam had been worrying about Savannah and what she might be hiding. He anxiously checked his phone every time a notification sounded, hoping it would be Eve telling him that they were both overly paranoid and everything was fine.
When he got the message from Savannah that she was coming over, he didn’t really think anything of it. Things had been much better between them since their time in the past where they were denied being together and Adam was hopeful that they were finally past his missteps when she first arrived in Madison Valley.
He opened the door and gave her an appreciative once over as he stepped back to let her enter. “Wasn’t sure if you would want something to eat,” he said. “I have some leftover burrito stuff I can heat up if you’re hungry.”
Did Savannah want to eat? Nope. Well, okay, she did, but mostly the brunette wanted this entire conversation to end, so she knew the ending.
“I just left Kol’s. I think we need to talk, Adam. I know I wasn’t honest when you asked me about the marks on my neck.” She let out a breath held, because this would suck, no matter how she approached it.
“At the orgy…the one in May? I said a vampire drank my blood. True. But I made a deal that Kol could keep drinking from me, as long as he made sure it didn’t hurt. In the intervening time he and I became friends. But part of the deal was nobody else knowing…and we weren’t in the best place for a while and suddenly we were…anyway, Kol and I agreed as of tonight, no more drinking my blood. My mother’s appearance certainly helped make the decision easier.” The words tumbled out of the tall brunette.
Adam stared at her, dumbfounded, as she word vomited all over the place before even properly entering his house. It was a lot to process and he felt a range of emotions from anger about her lying to jealousy about her sleeping with someone else, even if he’d done the same at that bonfire, to hurt that she hadn’t trusted him to tell her about this sooner. They’d never kept secrets from each other and while he knew that he’d screwed up by not telling her immediately about their relationship when she first arrived, he didn’t like to think that he’d set a precedent.
After a few long moments, he said, “How about I make some tea?” That was something he picked up from Paige and he figured this was a moment that called for it. It would also give him a few minutes to step away and sort through his thoughts and feelings before he said the wrong thing.
Savannah nodded. “Yeah, tea would be great.” She knew he needed time to process and she didn’t blame him.
The truth was, she’d put off telling him. Obviously. At first, for the obvious reasons that they weren’t even veering towards dating here. Then because she kept trying to find a way to tell Quentin, her actual boyfriend at the time. Being asked about the marks in the shower told her all she needed to know, truthfully, and she should have been honest. But deep down, in the deepest part of her soul, she’d worried that Adam would try to save her and she didn’t require saving.
She made her way to the living room and sat, with her back against the couch, legs folded under her. Adam would be rightly pissed and probably have a lot of questions. The witch readied herself for the difficult conversation ahead and chewed on her bottom lip.
While he waited for the kettle to whistle, Adam pulled out a bag of Paige’s cookies that he had stashed in his cupboard. Part of him really wanted to drink, but he knew that would be a bad idea. This was a conversation that was going to require him to keep his wits about him. He busied himself getting out mugs and tea bags and everything else that he’d need while he ran through Savannah’s words.
He knew the Mikaelsons were trouble and if he wasn’t concerned about accidentally starting some kind of war between his people and their family, he would probably go and punch the guy in the face a few times. Maybe he’d get lucky and Kol would sign up for fight club. He could probably manipulate things to ensure they got matched.
Pushing that thought aside, he focused on his girlfriend. No, he wouldn’t have been happy if she had told him about the deal she made and he probably would have tried to convince her to end it. Mostly he was angry that she lied and also hurt by the lack of trust though. By the time the kettle whistled, he was pretty sure he had his thoughts in order, so he filled the mugs with hot water, put the tea bags in, and then carried out a plate of cookies with the two mugs precariously balanced next to them. “If you want sugar or milk or anything, I’ll have to go grab it,” he said, setting everything down on the coffee table.
Savannah looked up when Adam walked back into the room. Kol remained her friend, for better or worse, and punching him would accomplish nothing, except trouble. Besides, she knew her friend and he hadn’t been in a good headspace lately.
“No, thank you. This is great.” Cream would be nice, but not necessary. She wrapped her hands around a mug and hugged it to her chest. “I am sorry.” Savannah realized she hadn’t said it. “I shouldn’t have lied. I’d hate it if the roles reversed on us.”
“You shouldn’t have even been in a position to lie,” Adam said. There was no real anger behind his words, more weary disappointment than anything else. “We’ve never kept secrets, Savannah. You definitely shouldn’t have been sneaking around letting a vampire drink your blood without telling someone. What if he really hurt you? Even if you weren’t comfortable telling me, you could have clued in Paige or Sean or Kate.” Or her parents, though Adam understood why they wouldn’t be her first option.
He sighed as he sat down next to her and reached for the other mug. “Were you ever going to tell me?”
Savannah sipped her tea, relishing in the warmth it brought her. “I thought about telling Sean.” Kind of. But the person Savannah actually had wanted to tell? Q. But given how his meeting with Kol went, the witch put it off until it didn’t matter anymore because she broke up with Q.
“I…” Savannah looked at Adam. “I almost told Quentin a couple times. So yes. I just…with everything I needed time to readjust.” Also, Savannah kept hoping Kol would tell Allison. Who would probably hate Savannah after.
“Kol and I…somehow we became friends. And so I didn’t worry.” It occurred to the witch, not for the first time, how complicated everything became when she showed up here. Perhaps she should have worried about Kol hurting her, but he’d proved to the brunette that they were friends. More than once.
Adam made a face when she mentioned Quentin. That was an unfortunate part of their history that he would prefer not to think about. Yes, it was his own fault she was even in the position to date someone else and he was mad at himself about it. Probably always would be. That wasn’t the point right now though.
“Sometimes you’re too trusting,” he said. “I understand that you wanted to help a friend, but it scares me to think about how easily it could have backfired.” Friends occasionally became enemies and you didn’t tend to see the betrayal coming.
Savannah expected to hear many things, but too trusting hadn’t been on the list. Kol had what? A thousand years of experience drinking blood? He might be into hurting some, but she knew Kol wouldn’t hurt her like he wouldn’t hurt Alyssa. How odd that Kol was how they kind of knew each other.
She noticed the face but didn’t comment. Whether Adam liked it or not, Q had been part of her life. An important part for a short period of time.
“Sure it could have backfired, just like I could get hit by a car tomorrow. He didn’t hurt me, though, the first time or any other time after.” Savannah knew the fact the situation involved Kol didn’t help. She might care, like, and trust her friend, but it didn’t mean Adam would.
It didn’t escape her notice that this seemed to, again, hinge on her not being able to make decisions for herself. Which, had been the catalyst for everything. Obviously she didn’t say anything.
Having spent time around Cassandra, Adam had a healthy distrust of vampires in general. Aaron wasn’t bad, but he knew that the vampires in other worlds were different from theirs. In his world, they had to make one kill a year. Some of these other worlds, well, Adam knew they behaved themselves under the dome, but he knew some of the vampires in town were far more violent and bloodthirsty. What happened if one of them lost control?
“I know you can take care of yourself,” he said. “That doesn’t mean I’m ever going to stop worrying about you though. I love you. And I couldn’t handle it if anything happened to you.”
Savannah brought the tea to her lips. She didn’t harbour illusions about Kol and his violent tendencies. Hell, she’d considered messaging him to deal with the guy who attacked her on the Titanic.
“I love you too. If anything happens to me it won’t be due to Kol with our current friendship status. I don’t think he has a lot of friends.” Which made sense in a strange way.
“I won’t be making anymore blood drinking deals. I told Kol I was a ‘one vampire drinking from me kind of girl’ and I meant it. I trusted him,” Savannah emphasized the him.
“Can we make an agreement right now? No more secrets? Surprises are okay, but no more secrets.” Things might be a little weirder here than what they were used to dealing with at home, but Adam didn’t see any reason they couldn’t have the same relationship here. Sure, they’d gotten off to a rocky start, but now they were from relatively the same point in time, or least a very similar point in their relationship, and he wanted them to rely on each other like they had for years.
“Okay.” Savannah took a cookie and absentmindedly dipped in the tea. “No more secrets. But, I need time before I move into your house, especially one you bought with someone else. That part wasn’t a lie.” In case Adam wondered at all.
She bit into the cookie and closed her eyes to the taste. She loved Adam and wanted this to work. Or she wouldn’t have blown up her relationship with Quentin, obviously.
Adam nodded. “Say the word and I’ll sell this place and we can find something together.” Yes, he really liked this house, especially the deck and the view, but he could understand why Savannah might not be entirely comfortable moving into it given the history.
“One thing I’ve learned living here for so long is that if a relationship is going to work, you have to have one hundred percent trust. Because the dome will fuck with you a lot. There might be times like the week we just lived through a freaking Ren Faire where one or both of us thinks we’re in a relationship with someone else. And because the dome has a sick sense of humor, it could throw me with Paige and you with Nick or something equally disturbing.” As long as the dome never put her back with Quentin, Adam was pretty sure he’d handle whatever got thrown at them.
Pausing to take a sip of his tea, he then continued. “And I know I fucked up at the beginning. I promise you it won’t happen again.”
Personally, a small part of Savannah thought it would be hilarious if the Dome threw Paige and Adam together. “Oh come on. Like you and Nick wouldn’t be secretly thrilled,” she teased. Although, the idea of her being thrown back together with Quentin made her feel nauseous. No, because those feelings still lingered and the witch didn’t want to have them at the forefront ever again.
“Okay. I’m sorry, by the way. Not just about Kol but…hurting you with Quentin. That wasn’t my intention.” Even if it hadn’t been something she’d sought out to do, it still happened. She’d known it as soon as she told Adam and she could pretend only she and Q were hurt, but Adam had been as well.
“No more secrets and no more fucking up.” This time, Sav leaned over and kissed Adam, lightly.
Yes, the whole thing with Quentin had hurt him, but he figured he deserved it so he wasn’t about to say anything. Adam set down his mug and wrapped his arm around her shoulders when she leaned in and kissed him.
“If anything, I’d want the dome to throw me and Nick together,” he joked. “Not sure how I’d feel about you and Nick.” Then he paused. “Wanna hear something completely fucked up? The universe that Elena is from? Nick and Paige hooked up there.”
“Oh, yes, you and Nick. I much prefer that too. As I think Nick would agree,” she teased her boyfriend.
Savannah had brought her tea up to drink again and then completely missed her mouth when he told her about Paige and Nick. “Shit.” She had to admit hot tea trailing down her chest didn’t feel great.
“I’m sorry. They what now? How? HOW? Do they both know about it?”
“You okay?” Adam asked, grabbing a couple of tissues from the box on the end table since he hadn’t grabbed napkins or paper towels.
In hindsight, he probably should have been more careful about dropping that little nugget. “I actually don’t think either of them know,” he said. “In fact, I’m not sure there are many people in town that know at this point. Elena’s from before it happened. I only know because Nick from that universe used to be here and told me about it.”
“Yup.” She took the tissues and used them to wipe up the trail of tea. “Ow.”
Savannah planned on telling nobody. She assumed Kate knew, of course, but wait. “I’m sorry. A different version of Nick was here?” The witch couldn’t picture any version of Nick besides the one in town. Granted, she probably would have said the same about Elena, but she liked the Elena in town.
Adam frowned. “Kate never mentioned it?” He would have assumed that she had filled in Savannah on that whole history. If she hadn’t though, he wasn’t about to. “He was here for quite a few years. Pretty similar to our Nick, all things considered. Though he lost Antonio during the Mutt uprising. Logan survived in their universe.”
Those were the biggest differences that he could remember. It was definitely a mind trip to hear about similar but different events.
Savannah blinked. “They got to keep Logan?” Then she realized how it sounded. She always wished she got to meet Logan. From the stories he sounded like a solid mix of Elena and Nick. Obviously she knew that Logan had been in town for a bit, but had been sent home before her arrival. “No, Kate didn’t mention it.”
She looked at Adam. “I’m glad Tonio stayed alive in our world. I don’t think Nick would survive it. From the way he talks about Logan sometimes, I think that almost broke him. I can’t imagine if Tonio died.” Savannah might not show it, but she cared about their werewolf friend a lot.
Losing Tonio had definitely broken the other Nick in a lot of ways and Adam knew that the entire Pack never got over losing Logan. There had been far too much loss in all of their lives.
“Anyway, let’s not talk about depressing things anymore,” he said. “You going to hang out for a while? I can feed you. We can watch a movie. Whatever you want.”
No, Adam was right. The whole Pack…had felt the loss. Still felt the loss. But tonight she didn’t want to think about anything else depressing.
“Deal. I’ll hang out. Food and a movie sounds good.” Savannah wouldn’t mind being curled up next to Adam the rest of the night in fact.
