Who: Eve/Kol/Savannah What: Eve realizes Kol drinks Sav’s blood Where: Kol’s When: Aug. 31st Warnings: low Status: closed/g-doc
Savannah finished work for the day and planned on a night of not moving. After she went to check in on Kol again and give him some blood to drink. The whole Dome deciding on a fucking Medieval Times theme for a week really messed with some people’s heads. Like, where Adam couldn’t marry her because of his whole being a prince thing. But, she knew Kol being in love with his girlfriend’s best friend had been worse.
Today she felt a little antsy too. The whole thing where Adam saw the marks on her neck meant she lied to him. Truthfully, Savannah knew she should tell her boyfriend, but she still needed time to feel as comfortable in a relationship here as she did at home.
After stopping at the store for some apple juice, so she could rehydrate after Kol drank from her, she walked to his place. When Savannah arrived, she knocked, although she knew he could hear and smell her already.
–
Kol was still dealing with the fact that he’d courted fucking Lydia Martin. That he had kissed her. The thought sickened him and worse, caused him to feel terribly guilty even if he had no control over what this town had done to everyone. He’d already taken several showers since his mind righted itself and currently was sprawled on his leather couch in jeans and a t-shirt. As much as he was grateful to this stupid little town, he also despised it more than anything right now. His anger was simmering beneath the surface and he felt the urge to hurt something.
Being a vampire, his emotions were heightened, particularly ones like anger or sadness. His control over his temper was shaky at best when he heard familiar footsteps coming towards his door. Then Savannah’s familiar scent filled his nose. Right. She was coming over for their feeding session. In his fog of anger, he’d nearly forgotten their little meeting today. The original vampire took a shaky breath and then another before covering the distance to the door and swinging it open.
“Hello, darling,” Kol greeted, stepping aside so she could enter before closing the door behind her and clicking the lock into place.
“Anything I can get you, love? Or do you just want to get right down to business.”
– Savannah stepped inside and looked at Kol. Really looked at him. Shit. The witch did a very un-Savannah thing and pulled her friend in for a brief, but tight, hug. When she pulled away, Savannah said, “Hello Kol. I’d ask how you’re doing, but I think your face says everything.”
She wished she could help, but any spell she could think of would only help temporarily. Kol needed time and perhap a punching bag. The tall witch hated everything about this Dome since she woke up on the cruise. Going home didn’t uncomplicate things and the fact it messed with others she cared about? Fuck.
“How about your choice? Do you want to get right to business?” A thought occurred to her. “This offer is good for today only, but would it help if you didn’t compel me to not feel pain?” Savannah really wanted to do what she could to help her friend at the moment. Besides, she trusted Kol. He’d been feeding from her for months now.
Kol was surprised by the hug, but after a moment, he returned it then stepped back. Her words earned her a small smile and the vampire shook his head. “I suppose at this moment I am a rather easy title to read, love. Not that I was ever very good at hiding my feelings anyway.”
The Original Vampire needed plenty of alcohol, Allison, and yes, something to beat the crap out of. However, that wasn’t going to have anything to do with the young woman standing in front of him. No, she was here for his feeding session, a chat, and then she would be on her way. Safe from Kol and his bad mood.
“Given my rather dark mood, love, it’s probably best we get down to business,” Kol replied honestly. Her offer for him not to use his mind to ease the pain was considerate and even kind, but Kol didn’t want to use her as the outlet for that pain. They were friends after all.
Kol took her hand and gently pressed a kiss to the back of it. “I appreciate the offer, darling, but I’m not going to use you as an outlet for that pain.” He led her over to the couch and tugged her down beside him. Releasing her hand, his fingers brushed strands of dark hair from her neck and his dark brown eyes looked deeply into her own.
“However, because of that generous offer, darling, why don’t I make it feel incredible instead?”
Savannah really hated what the Dome pulled. “No, you’re not, but it makes it easier for me to know what I should not say at any given moment.” Not that she always followed her advice, but mostly their friendship worked.
She nodded. While she wouldn’t go back on her word, Savannah did appreciate not feeling pain. At the kiss to the back of her hand, she grinned. “Always the charmer, my friend,” as she sat. “Incredible? Sure.” Savannah felt game to see what ‘incredible’ felt like. She pulled her hair into a loose ponytail so Kol had better access to her neck.
“-- Are you kidding me?!” Eve had not necessarily meant to pop into her corporeal form right then and there while she was in the middle of a string of sentences about how she felt on this whole situation and yet - she did. Suddenly there was a very angry looking young woman who looked a lot like Savannah except that she was in jeans and a t-shirt and had an obvious different ‘style’ than the other. Savannah’s eyes, too, were different, having gotten them from her father.
Realizing that she’d just manifested, Eve decided to cut her losses. Had she originally planned to talk to Savannah after, yes? Now? Well, she’d ‘walked in on them’ so to speak hadn’t she?
“Savannah Constance Levine. What in the hell do you think you are doing?”
With Savannah’s neck exposed, Kol leaned in, an arm slinking around her waist while his fangs were already heavy in his mouth. All of his focus was on the sound of her heart and pulse beating in tandem in his head. An alluring melody. His mouth was nearly on her neck when a woman's voice rang out. It was unfamiliar and Kol immediately pulled away from Savannah. His gaze zeroed in on the woman who suddenly appeared in his living room.
Her features looked nearly identical to the woman seated across from him aside from the eyes and her sense of fashion. The vampire stood, fangs retracting in his mouth, and his chocolate brown eyes shifted between the two women. Even before the unfamiliar female spoke, Kol could tell they were related, but her next statement confirmed it. Kol had the sinking feeling this was Savannah’s mum. Oh fuck him.
He sighed. “I can tell a mum when I see one and that I’m in for the lecture of a bloody lifetime. Do I even want to know how the hell you got in my apartment, love?”
Eve startled her daughter so much that Savannah unleashed a knockback spell on her. As the spell hit Eve, Savannah swore. “She’s a fucking ghost is how. She’s been dead for a while.” Great. “Well, half the time she’s a ghost and half the time a bounty hunting angel. Don’t you have ghosts you can go terrorize for Alex or something?”
Savannah’s ice blue eyes flashed as she became more annoyed and angry. “Feeding my friend. It’s exactly what it looked like I was about to do. Why, exactly, are you following me?” Her arms crossed as she stared at Eve.
Eve thankfully had been around long enough to anticipate a knockback so while it hit - and she was proud of how hard it hit too - she brought her hands up in an X and slid back toward the wall rather than being knocked on her ass. She hoped it looked as cool as it felt.
Hands down, she looked at Savannah with the same sort of expression as she was giving her. “It’s called ghost parenting, thank you.” This was a joke, but also kind of true considering this was the only way she was ever able to check up on Savannah back home. “You make it sound like I was stalking you, which, I don’t.” Most of the time. She had gotten better at it since Savannah’s arrival. “and you make it sound like everyone knows you’re volunteering to be his blood bag. Which you aren’t. In fact, it’s like you’re keeping this a secret from everyone.”
She glanced at Kol. “Or are you at least honest you’re sucking the blood from my daughter?” Eve also couldn’t help feel protective considering how special Savannah was. She heard about what happened in the future with her daughter and how even her a-hole of a dad got involved with everything. It scared her.
A bloody ghost. Kol watched as Savannah’s spell collided with Eve who blocked and ended up sliding into the wall. “I can’t believe I’m the one saying this, but can we keep the potential for bodily harm to a minimum? At least while we are standing in my living room.” While it looked impressive, Kol was far more concerned about them destroying his home. As much as he liked Savannah and considered the witch a friend, he was not about to have her and her mother duke it out in his living room. It was bad enough her mother was standing in his living room in the first place. Bloody hell.
Eve’s response had Kol barely managing to bite back a snide remark. Of course she bloody stalked her daughter. She was a ghost and she’d be dumb not to abuse the abilities that came along with that status. Maybe she didn’t engage in that kind of behavior all the time, but Kol had little doubt that it did happen. The fact that she was standing here was proof that it did happen. Worse yet, she was berating Savannah for not announcing to the entire town that Kol was feeding from her. Why did everyone have to bloody know what they did? It was truly no one else’s business and it was not harming anyone. But this was between Savannah and her mother. Kol didn’t have a dog in this fight.
Until she turned her judgy eyes to him and Kol, who already was coming off of one hell of a bad week, had to do everything in his power not to lash out at her. He took a deep breath and met Eve’s gaze.
“I honestly don’t see how me being honest about feeding from your daughter with anyone is technically your business, love. Savannah is an adult and she consented to the deal. You may not like it, but whether we tell anyone about our little arrangement or not is, again, none of your damn business. Now, you rudely entered my home without my permission, ghost or otherwise and I would like it if you left. Preferably right now.”
Savannah definitely didn’t want to destroy Kol’s place, so she wouldn’t use more magic. Her knockback spell was more reaction than anything. “Sorry,” she directed at Kol. “Reflex spell. Definitely have no plans to harm your place.” Did she flash him an amused expression that he said it? Definitely.
She looked at her mom, anger still in her eyes, with some hurt. “I don’t believe you. I’m sorry, but I don’t. And if you want a relationship with me, I suggest you keep the ghost parenting/following me around to a minimum.” Savannah stopped as a new thought crossed her mind. “For fuck’s sake do not tell me you do this to Dad too.” Kristof deserved privacy too.
“Kol is right. We made a deal, one you would probably make yourself, by the way. He drinks my blood. He makes it so there isn’t pain. We’re friends. I am a consenting adult, not the 12yo you remember. Excuse me if I didn’t announce to the town I help out my friend in this manner.” Savannah took a couple deep breaths.
“You should probably leave.” Did she hate fighting with Eve? Yup. But right now she didn’t care. “You can yell at me later.” Either way, she would still let Kol feed from her.
Eve knew that children were meant to be ungrateful, but the fact that Savannah couldn't even comprehend how Eve spent a good deal back home literally protecting her daughter from death in one way or another.
She could have yelled or even spoke with heat, but instead she just spoke calmly and to Savannah, ignoring Kol completely. It he thought she was the only ghost in his house right now, he'd be mistaken. Just most of them didn't bother with the living.
"It's okay Savannah. We won't talk about it again. You're right, you're both adults and have just decided to keep it a secret from people the people you love because they don't need to know and not because you're worried about something."
She headed for the door, then paused. "I might be a bitch, Savannah, and a pain in your ass, but I never lied to you. Or treat you like an inconvenience. Enjoy being an adult."
If she wasn't wanted or needed, Eve didn't have to be around. She had other things she could do.
Well that was a lie. She had little to do here. At least she had a ghost she was training.
Eve disappeared.
And she was a condescending ghost to boot. Completely ignoring him. Kol resisted the urge to roll his eyes at her words. If she thought that her underhand tactic was supposed to make Kol feel guilty about what he and Savannah had been about to do, she was sorely mistaken. She was a judgy one and given how Savannah had responded to her little ‘ghost parenting’ joke, he sensed she had very little room to be. No, Kol wasn’t interested in her opinion just as she was clearly uninterested in what he’d had to say.
For all his uncontrollable urges, particularly with his emotions, Kol knew he at least owned those feelings. There was no way in this world or any other that he was going to allow a stranger to influence them. Kol made his own choices, for better or for worse. Besides, he wasn’t her child and he didn’t take kindly to being lectured, even in a backhanded way, but a woman he didn’t know. He watched her leave and waited until he couldn’t hear anything outside the door before turning to the witch beside him.
“You okay, love?” Kol reached out and gently touched her arm. “I know that wasn’t easy for you. Mums are complicated. Especially ones that clearly have issues with their children’s free will.”
Savannah found it easier to get along with her father. Kristof gave her space and allowed her to make her way in this town. Probably it helped that he had two young kids, so the sorcerer didn’t need to focus on Savannah or Sean too much. Eve? She had too much time and probably not much excitement in her life.
She didn’t regret what she said, but Savannah saw the hurt in her mother’s eyes.
“No. But I’m not sure what I should be feeling.” Savannah appreciated the gesture and shook her head. “I’m not…back home she’s dead, but I don’t see her. Like, I know she watches over me, but it feels abstract. Here, though?” The witch looked at Kol and returned to the couch.
“It sucked.” She pulled her hair away from her neck again, so Kol could feed. “Kol. I think I need to tell Adam. He’s already asking questions and lying to him feels.” Savannah looked off in the distance as she abruptly stopped. “He saw the marks and I lied. With Q? He never noticed.” Savannah considered telling Q, but then…July happened.
A deal's a deal and in a normal situation, Kol would not be considering letting Savannah out of it, but this was not a normal situation. It was clear Savannah was feeling guilty about what she said to her mother and for lying to Adam. Kol didn’t bear any marks from their meetings so Allison didn’t suspect anything, but it didn’t make the situation okay either. Fuck that bloody ghost and her guilt-tripping nonsense.
The vampire reached out and gently lowered her wrist back down; her hair shifted back over her neck. “It’s okay, darling. I release you from the deal. When you tell Adam, you can tell him we will no longer be meeting like this either. I’m sure he’ll appreciate me no longer putting my mouth and teeth all over your pretty neck.”
Stepping back, Kol made his way to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of bourbon. He downed it and turned to her. “Shall we drink to the end of an era, love?”
Sav looked confused for a moment. At no point did she consider ending their deal. She just wanted Kol to realize the witch needed to be honest with Adam.
“Are you sure?” Savannah asked. She knew how much simpler the situation would be for both of them if they stopped, but Sav’s stubbornness and friendship with Kol compelled her to ask. Funny she used that verb.
Watching her friend down the bourbon Savannah stated, “You still need food.” She meant right then.
And Kol was well aware that Adam would not want Kol feeding from Savannah. He wasn’t sure of the exact status of their relationship, but they were close and that kind of close did not like another man sinking his fangs into his girl’s neck. Given what happened recently with Lydia, Kol wasn’t in the mood to make waves again. Though, he realized he would have to come clean to Allison too. And in turn live up to Lydia’s expectations of him. Bloody wonderful.
“It’s for the best, darling. Trust me. Adam will be happier if I’m not sucking on your neck every few days. And Allison, well, I suppose we will see how Allison handles the fact that I’ve been keeping a secret from her.” Yes, the brunette knew dome craziness, but this was completely all on Kol and he knew it. He’d warned Allison he was not good for her and he was living up to his self-proclaimed prophecy. As was expected.
“That’s what blood bags are for,” Kol replied simply. “I’m not a fan, but I can survive off of them just fine.” And if not? Well, there were plenty of strangers in Madison Valley without any ties to those he knew.
“I appreciate the sentiment, Savannah, but-” Kol broke off and looked down at the empty glass in his hand before meeting her gaze once more. “I don’t want to do what Mikaelson’s do best. I don’t want to hurt the people that come to care about me or me them.”
Savannah nodded. She knew Kol was right. Adam would more than likely hate the idea of someone else’s mouth on her neck. At least he wasn’t a werewolf who could smell such things. The witch hoped Allison wouldn’t be too angry, but Savannah recognized how upset she’d be with reversed roles.
“I think we’re both about to have hurt and angry significant others…” She looked at Kol. “Fucking hell Mom.”
She poured herself a glass of bourbon, but gently hugged Kol once more. “To the end of an era, but also to our friendship, Original Vampire Boy.”
Kol returned the hug gently. It was strange to think he had more friends here than he’d probably ever had back home, where he’d existed for a thousand years. The vampire stepped back and poured himself another glass. He clinked the glass against hers and offered her a cheeky smile at the comment.
