Who: Jaskier and Geralt
What: Drinks.
Where: Homebrew.
When: After this.
Warnings: Possibly language. TBD.
Status: Closed.

Jaskier wasn't completely sure what was wrong with him tonight. He just... wasn't feeling like himself. So when Geralt had asked him, he was somewhat honest with the Witcher. He was having a slightly difficult time adjusting to life in Madison Valley. Sure, he had a job. And a roof over his head, and his lute. But it wasn't home.

He'd told Geralt what it was he needed. Geralt and alcohol. Both things would remind him of home. Something he desperately needed.

Jaskier sat on the curb outside the apartment complex, and waited for the Witcher to arrive with Roach. He knew it wouldn't be the same Roach as from home, that was impossible. But it would be a horse, at least.

Geralt didn't know what was wrong with Jaskier, but for all the crap he gave the songbird, he was still a friend. Geralt would be there for him. So he saddled up the horse he wanted to buy...then name Roach...and went to pick up the minstrel.

He stopped in front of Jaskier where he sat looking dejected. "Come on."

"As loquacious as ever," Jaskier said, as he rose from his spot on the curb. He may not be feeling like himself, but he could still give Geralt a bit of a hard time.

It had been a while since he'd been on a horse, but he was able to easily mount this one. Some skills never went away.

"Just make sure I don't get too drunk to ride home without falling off, that's all I ask."

"If you get that drunk I'll tie you to the saddle."

Hopefully, Jaskier remembered how Geralt liked to ride because once he was in place behind him, Geralt took NotYet!Roach from a dead stop into a wild gallop.

Not many people had the experience to manage a horse at this speed for this long. Geralt was one of those few so he was grinning by the time he pulled them to a stop at the Homestead.

"That works," Jaskier decided. "As long as you don't decide to make me walk home or something." Because he wouldn't put it past Geralt. Though he wasn't planning on getting that drunk.

....he rarely planned on getting drunk, though.

Of course Jaskier remembered how Geralt liked to ride. Which was why he had opted to use at least one hand to hold on to the man in front of him. He didn't feel like falling off NotYet!Roach.

"You know, it wasn't a race to get here," he said, once they were in front of Homebrew.

"Less time in the saddle means more time drinking." Geralt gave his logic as he got off the horse then clapped Jaskier on the back. "Come on."

He gave enough time for them to be well into their second drink before he prodded the songbird. "So, tell me what's going on."

"Okay, that's a fair point." Jaskier was more than willing to accept that logic. Geralt sometimes had good, logical moments. Sometimes. ...okay, more often than not.

He had almost hoped that Geralt wouldn't press him, that he would just be content with drinking with Jaskier. It didn't seem like that was going to happen, though. Not that it surprised him in the slightest.

"While this town is fascinating, it's also... different. Not home." He might be admitting that he was a little homesick. Though he did like Madison Valley, he also liked home. "I'm glad you and Ciri are here, though...."

"No, it's not," the Witcher said. He was more accepting of weird things happening, though. Since his life was nothing but a series of weird things, he adapted more easily. Caroline helped a lot.

"Have you made any friends?" Geralt asked, then lifted a brow. "Wooed the ladies?"

"Sort of?" he said. He had made some acquaintances, at least. Though no one he considered to be good friends. No one besides Geralt and Ciri, anyway.

"I am shocked that you think I have it in me to woo ladies, Geralt," he said, offering the Witcher a small smile. He took a sip of his drink, before eyeing Geralt for a moment.

"Are you successful in wooing women, Geralt?"

Geralt gave Jaskier a bland smile since he'd been subjected to the bard's tales of feminine conquest over and over...and over.

An actual smile came to his face at the question, however. "Caroline."

Jaskier just stared at Geralt for a moment. He knew that Geralt wouldn't believe him one bit if he denied trying to woo women here in Madison Valley. Because he definitely had tried to woo a woman or two while in town. And Geralt knew him too well to believe any denial.

"Caroline?" he asked, arching an eyebrow. "Tell me everything, Geralt. I saw that smile."

In the spirit of cheering Jaskier up, Geralt indulged him.

"She's a vampire," he started. "But definitely not like the ones we are familiar with. She's beautiful. Blonde. Has been here a while with her daughter."

"You're leaving me for a pretty blonde vampire. I see how it is. I thought our love was eternal, Geralt." He downed the drink in front of him, and motioned for another.

"Heartbreaker."

"She rides a horse better than you do," Geralt pointed out.

"But this isn't about me," he said pointedly. "What's holding you back?"

"I can ride a horse quite well, Geralt." He attempted a pout in the Witcher's direction as the bartender brought him his next drink.

"It can be about you if I try hard enough." Because Jaskier was excellent at diverting attention to someone else if need be. Especially in these situations.

"I just... feel lonely."

"Why are you lonely?" Geralt signaled for another round for the two of them. "How is here any different than back home? It's not like you to be...shy."

"I am not shy," he said, narrowing his eyes at Geralt. "You know I'm not." He took another drink from his glass, and started to eye the bottles of alcohol behind the bar. "I want some tequila," he decided, and asked the bartender for a few shots of the clear alcohol.

No lime because that was for weaklings or something.

"I did offer to teach a woman named Claire how to play the lute," he said. "She's very pretty and she took me up on the offer."

Geralt nodded to the bartender about the tequila. This would all be on him tonight, and it sounded like Jaskier really needed a night of drinking.

"How'd that go?"

"Well, I haven't actually gone through with any of the lessons yet," Jaskier admitted. He nodded toward the bartender once the shot of tequila was placed in front of him. As sort of a thanks. He downed the tequila, then eyed Geralt.

"Why are you getting me drunk?" he asked. "I'm not complaining, though. But don't let me do anything stupid."

"Why are you putting it off?" Geralt eyed Jaskier. "You afraid?" Throw the challenge out there. Get Jaskier back on the horse.

He huffed. "I won't let you do anything I wouldn't do."

Jaskier gasped and looked slightly offended at Geralt's words. "When have I ever been afraid?" Then, after a moment's consideration, "Of normal women, at least." Yes, he was a bit afraid of some women.

"Are you sure about that, Geralt??" he asked, arching an eyebrow. He took another sip of his drink, eyeing his friend.

"First you say I'm afraid..."

"Obviously since you got here," Geralt pointed out. Since Jaskier hadn't seduced half the female population, or at least tried to, something was holding him back.

"I don't let you do anything I wouldn't do." He gave Jaskier a stern look for making him repeat himself.

Jaskier gasped slightly at Geralt's words. He then considered them for a moment. "I suppose you're right," he admitted. "Things are different here. I can't help but think the women are different here."

At least he was being honest for once.

And Jaskier matched said look. He wasn't afraid of Geralt.

"So it won't be easy," Geralt said. "Just makes it a challenge for you. I'm sure you could still charm the panties off these ladies."

It really was an upside down world if Geralt had found a lass and Jaskier hadn't found at least five.

Jaskier eyed Geralt for a moment, his head tilting slightly. "Have I ever backed away from a challenge?" he asked, and grinned at the man beside him. The Witcher. He was grateful for his presence in Madison Valley. As well as Ciri's.

"I might have to start by attempting to woo the panties off Claire."

Geralt smiled to himself having received the response he had wanted. However, this Claire sounded a bit different than the strumpets Jaskier typically went for.

"Maybe you treat Claire better than that."

"I will treat Claire as good as she deserves," he decided. "Which is wonderfully." He was rather fond of Claire, even after only speaking to her for a short while. He would like to get to know her better, though.

Claire was definitely different than the other people Jaskier had gone for.

He wouldn't be surprised that Geralt had realized that.

Geralt his a smirk behind his mug of beer. The bard was smitten. He made a mental note to tell Ciri of this later, and he would definitely be watching to see how things develop.

"Now you have a plan."

The bard was definitely smitten. He just didn't realize how smitten he actually was. Geralt might have picked up on it quickly, but... Jaskier might be a bit in denial.

"I definitely have a plan," he said, taking a drink from his glass of beer.

Oh, Geralt was already imagining what the wedding would look like and how panicked Jaskier would be. If anyone else knew the bard, Geralt might start a betting pool.

"Good," he said. His feline eyes spotted some young women who were obviously looking for the good kind of trouble. Geralt elbowed Jaskier then nodded in their direction.

Hey, he wasn't beholden to Claire yet.

Jaskier would disagree with his friend, but he might also be in denial about it as well. He was a bit smitten with Claire Redfield, but that didn't mean he was going to marry her. He hadn't even begun to woo her.

He eyed the young women Geralt had nodded toward, and smirked slightly. No, he wasn't beholden to Claire. ...perhaps he could start wooing his way into these women's panties.

"Which one do you think?" he asked, softly.

"All of them."

Jaskier arched an eyebrow at Geralt's suggestion, his challenge. He was never one to back down from a challenge, especially one like this. "Challenge accepted," he said, grinning at his friend.

He downed the drink he'd had in front of him, as though to steel his nerves. He then rose from his chair, and headed toward the women.
