Logan had been curious about this 'mountain ash' that Kate had found ever since she'd told him about it. It apparently didn't affect their kind of werewolf, but played havoc with Scott's pack. He didn't like that at all, especially since Kate's boyfriend was one of that pack. He knew that they'd already cleaned it up, but he decided to go for a run early in the morning hoping that he could smell some remnants of it so that he might at least memorize the scent of it.
So Logan went out to the woods, putting his clothes in a bag where he could easily get to them, and Changed, coming out from the thicket as a large blonde wolf. It was easy enough to pick up Kate and Scott's scents, and that led him to the place where Scott had fallen, trapped by the herb. He put his nose to the ground and snuffled around, at first smelling nothing but the dirt and the small animals that had trampled over it since. A rabbit. A squirrel. Birds. A deer. Then he caught the smell of something. It was very, very, very vague - just a whiff of it, really. The scent smelled unremarkable to him, but it was certainly something that he'd never smelled here before. Sniffing around the area, he tried to find the tracks of whoever had left it here, but came up empty. That was disappointing. Whoever had left the trap knew how to cover their tracks. That, in Logan's mind, made them even more dangerous. This wasn't good.
Trotting back over to where he'd left his clothes, he Changed back, and dressed, then came back over to where he'd been, in human form. He crouched at the place where he'd smelled the Mountain Ash, looking around him for any sign that someone had been there. He found nothing.
Suddenly his head snapped to the right as he heard footsteps nearby. He stood.
"Who's there?"
