Who: Jake and Octavia
What: Jake's arrival
When: Sunday
Where: In town
Warnings: Not likely
Status: Closed

Octavia wouldn't have been anyone's first choice to greet a new arrival, but there she was. She hadn't seen him suddenly materialise on the spot, but she knew no one had been there a moment ago, and now there was someone. Someone who looked a bit like Murphy. Okay, a lot like Murphy. Which was startling, but she wasn't going to let that get to her. She knew about doppelgangers, face twins, whatever they were called, in Madison Valley.

In fact, Murphy already had a doppelganger. Octavia hadn't actually met the guy, but she'd seen him. The resemblance was eerie, and more so with this guy because now there were three of them. Octavia drew a breath, and made her way over to him, to intercept him before the suit from City Hall showed up to give him his welcome packet. She thought it might be a little easier for him to deal if he had a heads up before that happened.

"Hey. You okay, buddy?" she asked him. She didn't know his name, so she picked a random generic greeting. "I know it's jarring to find yourself here. This place is called Madison Valley. Indiana."

Going from being dead, he's pretty damn sure of it, to some town or city or wherever the hell he was; was pretty disorienting. It was messed up since he'd thought it would've been Sparky. Had thought that's who it was in the picture. He hated that island with a damn passion.

He takes a deep breath before letting it out, looking over when he hears a voice he doesn't recognize. "No, I am not okay." Okay was not the word that he'd use for it. Jake was pretty damn sure that he was still dead. This was, well... he wasn't entirely sure what it was. "Indiana?"

How in the hell did he get from the damn island, creepy as hell island, to Indiana? That made absolutely no sense to him. Nothing made sense to him. He'd blame it on another high, but he knew that wasn't it.

"No, of course not." Octavia moved toward him, but maintained a bit more than arm's length from him. She had her sword on her back, and could easily bring it around if she had to. She hoped she wouldn't have to.

"Listen. I know it's disorienting to be here. I arrived a few weeks ago and I had no idea what was going on." She'd just murdered Pike in cold blood, still had his blood on her hands and her sword, when she fell in. "But you're here. So take a deep breath. Try to relax."

The moment that Octavia took a step towards him there was an automatic step back. One that he probably didn't even realize that he did. It wasn't that he was scared of her. He didn't know this woman to be scared of her. That didn't, however, mean that he was comfortable with any of this.

"Disorienting? That's an understatement. You don't go from being..." Jake has to stop himself before he even says it. He hadn't even taken stock of himself either. What he was wearing or how he felt in general. "Relaxing? Not bound to happen. Not right away." How could anyone relax after being dead?

He had no idea how disorienting Madison could be. He'd just missed a week of living in the 1980s, and the portal to another world. He would probably be freaked out to know there were two other, completely unrelated people in town who looked pretty much exactly like him. A lot of weird happened in Madison, and the residents of the town pretty much just rolled with it.

"I can't blame you for that. But I mean, try not to have a heart attack or anything. I don't have medical training and the goon from City Hall won't care." She gestured at the straight laced guy in a perfectly tailored suit coming toward them. Jake was given an envelope and a fast paced, not very informative spiel about how he was in Madison. Octavia shooed the suit off.

"So, you've got a new cell phone, hooked up to the network so you can talk to other people who ended up here same as you. You've got keys to an apartment, with any luck it's near mine so can show you the way. There's a credit card with like $1000 on it, but trust me. It goes fast."

"You can't have a fucking heart attack when you're dead," he grounds out. It's not that he was upset with the strange woman, he wasn't. It was just how disorienting this whole situation was. More than what he'd like to admit to. He's not entirely sure why

He runs fingers through his hair and clenches his jaw slightly. Last thing he needed was anyone trying to work on him. Though, when she mentioned the goon from City Hall he makes a bit of a face. That is, until the man is there spewing things at him along with handing him the envelope.

That has him pausing for a moment before looking over towards her," They got a paper inside telling you where this apartment even is? And $1,000 only goes quick if you splurge. Not the splurging type." Though, he didn't know how much these apartments were either. "This is all fucked up."

Oh fun. He was dead. Well. That was a thing that happened in Madison too. "You're not the only one who's dead. There's a few people here, I guess, who died. But they're very much alive now, and so are you. Call it a second chance or whatever." Octavia rolled her shoulders. She wasn't dead, so it didn't have much impact on her.

"There's a map in the envelope that will tell you where the apartment is. As long as you stay in the apartment they gave you, rent's free." Another shrug. This was old news to her. She'd never met anyone upon arrival before, so she was just sort of winging it. "Let me see," she said, gesturing with a hand at the envelope.

He wasn't the only one who was dead or had died. Wait, did that mean she had to? And who were these others that she was talking about? There was far too much running through his mind, just at her words alone. It was something that he wasn't used to. Maybe this really was the fault of the island.

A rent free apartment as long as someone stayed in it. That seemed a bit far fetched and too good to be true. Why would it be free? Never mind that. A map, sure. He does, however, hand her the envelope. Might as well get the help while he can.

Octavia pulled out the map, and studied it for a moment. "Looks like this is your lucky day Your apartment is in the building next to mine. Come on, I'll show you." She started walking and since she had the envelope with his other stuff in it, he'd better come with her.

"Do you have cell phones where you're from?" If not, well. Teaching him how to use it might be a process. He didn't strike her as coming from the future the way she had. She hadn't ever seen a cell phone before she came to Madison, but she wasn't unfamiliar with the technology.

"Good to know."

He hadn't expected her to start walking right away, though. Which has him following her. She had his shit and there was no way that he was going to let her just walk off with it. Besides, if she could show him where this apartment was then all the better. The fact that she was willing to do it was pretty damn good too.

"I know how to use a cellphone. We don't have to worry about that," he tells her with a shake of his head. "Those are one of the easiest things possible."

"You'd be surprised how many people come here that don't know how to work one." Octavia shrugged. "I mean, I'm from the future. 2149 to be exact." Which was weird to her, because it was her norm. She'd never known the twenty-first century.

"Earth was more or less destroyed by a nuclear fall out. A lot of technology survived, but cell phones are a thing of the past. So I had to learn how to use the damn thing." She led him around a corner and down a street, toward apartment buildings looming in the distance. "That's where we're going," she pointed with the envelope.

Her saying that she's from the future has Jake stopping mid-step. That was a bit more messed up than he'd like to admit. 2149. That was a good... well, it was way too far into the future. After a moment, he starts following her again.

"They're not that hard to use, if you have the right teacher," he tells her before looking where she was pointing with the envelope. "Outside doesn't look so bad." Didn't mean that the inside would look fine. "So, where you're from Earth was destroyed... By a nuclear fall out. Sounds pretty messed up."

"You could say that. Some people knew it was coming. They escaped to the skies. That's where I was born, in space." She'd just skip over the part about being an illegal birth, hidden under the floorboards for the first sixteen years of her life. "I got sent to ground when I was seventeen. And now I'm here." That was about as simple as she could recount her life story, because she'd left out practically all the important details.

Just the knowledge alone was giving him a bit of a headache. She was born in space? It takes a lot for him not to look towards the sky. Sent to the ground. That sounded a bit awful, if anyone were to ask him. They hadn't. "Better here then?" The apartments weren't too far off, but he was enjoying her company. So, he didn't care if they managed to get there or not.

"Life is better here," she told him. "But there are things I miss about life there," she added. But with Lincoln dead, maybe she was better off in Madison. She was getting used to this life, at any rate. She'd just skip the part about having a child she didn't remember, that Murphy was raising. That was probably a little too much to throw at Jake on top of everything else.

"Do you want me to come up to your apartment with you, or you think you can handle it from here?"

Life was better. Maybe life would be better in Madison Valley, even for him. There was no island to be stuck on. He also wasn't dead. He could make a life and not have to worry about anything. Not Anna, not being dead and definitely not an island.

"I think I can handle it from here," he tells her with a bit of a smile. "Thank you, Octavia." For taking time out of her day to bother with him. "Thanks."

"You're welcome, Jake." Octavia gave him a little smile and held out the manilla envelope with his things in it. "The phone has a town network on it. If you need anything, just send a message to me. Pretty sure I'm the only Octavia in the contact list."

She waved him on, and headed toward her own apartment in the next building. She was glad he was close. She felt like she wanted to get to know him better.

[OOC: Wrap!]
