He'd pretty quickly decided that his life in no way made sense to him but that he was also okay with that fact. Or at least reasonably okay. Then again, he didn't really have much of a choice -- Madison Valley would throw things at him and keep throwing things at him whether he liked it or not. Hermann had just been lucky so far that by and large, he hadn't actually hated anything the town had done.
He couldn't even bring himself to hate the last time that the town had dropped children on all of them. As much as it hurt knowing that he would never know either child -- though to be fair, there was at least a passing chance for Baz's existence now -- he couldn't bring himself to hate it.
Just like he couldn't hate the fact that Amara had plunked herself down in his life and made herself at home. She was his ward, yes, but she was more than that. She was family and for a man who'd never really had good experiences in that regard? He both loved their small family and was terrified of it. That was alright, though, he figured. And why wouldn't it be?
The sound of the front door opening and then closing caught Hermann's attention, had him making his way out of the kitchen. "Enjoying your last bit of freedom before school?" he asked, largely teasing -- they'd agreed that it was best for basically the entire town if they home schooled her.
