Who: Scorpius Malfoy, Carson Becket, Lissa Dragomir
What: Hungover Wizard explaining himself
When: Thursday July 9th
Where: Lissa and Jill’s place
Warnings: TBD
Status: Closed/In progress
Scorpius wasn’t at all surprised to wake up someplace other than his own house, he was just slightly shocked that it was Jill and Lissa’s house. And that he was in an actual bed, and not on the couch. He honestly figured he would wake up in a jail cell this morning, or an alley, especially as he really didn’t remember much after the second or third hour of drinking.
Well, drinking at the bar anyway. He’d started much earlier in the day before heading out to the bar before Narcissa got home. There were just some things he didn’t want to have to explain to the pint sized witch he lived with. Mostly, why he was completely soused on a Wednesday afternoon.
After crawling out of the bed, and fumbling about for his wand so he could make himself halfway decent, Scorpius made his way downstairs towards the kitchen, silently (or maybe not so silently) cursing himself for not making sure he had a hangover cure with him when he left home yesterday. And despite the fact that his stomach was trying to revolt, whatever was being made in the kitchen actually smelled good.
“Just cut off my head, okay. It will feel better if you do,” he said as he slumped in a chair.

“No, you can suffer for a little while longer,” Carson said not quite cheerfully. “Much as I’m sure something’s actually wrong, consider the suffering your punishment for not actually suffering with someone.”
A pause.
“You are going to eat, by the way. Don’t make me have the girls push you into it. You know they will. It’ll go better for all involved if you just listen to me.”
Really not kidding.
***
This was the point when Lissa wandered into the kitchen to see Scorpius slumped in a chair at the table. She gave him a sympathetic smile and handed him one of the packets he had left at their house for the times he came over to drink with her when things were not going the best in life or at the clinic.
"As much as I am pissed at you for going through whatever happened alone, I am not so cruel as to keep this from you -- but you are going to eat, and then you are going to talk."
***
Scorpius looked back and forth between the two of them before shaking his head and shoving the packet to the side. He’d mix it with tea later, because it always went down better on a full stomach.
“I was supposed to get married today. We let Simone pick the date, her grandparents’ wedding date. I should be, right now, headed to magical Greece, to do naked things on a beach,” Instead, he was back in Madison Valley, alone and moping, and turning into an idiot again.
***
Carson stifled a wince at that. He’d known the date was coming up but hadn’t remembered when. And he wasn’t about to say that, because it was the least helpful thing he could say at the moment. So instead, he said the next thing he thought of, which was only slightly more helpful.
Slightly.
“At least Jill’s already off to work for the day so you don’t have to deal with her fussing.”
We did say ‘only slightly’ right?

Lissa was not able to hide her own dismay as she wouldn't have wished that kind of pain on anyone she loved -- and Scorpius most definitely fit into that group. Being Lissa and knowing she would be allowed to, she moved closer to wrap her arms around him and give him a tight hug, laying her head against his for a long moment. She didn't dare use any of her powers to soothe the ache because she knew both men would consider it an unnecessary use of her energy even though her desire was to help.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. I wish there was a way I could bring them here or send you to them."
Not that he'd let her if she could, but still.

There was a sigh from Scorpius as he dropped his head down on the counter. “Maybe she’ll be less fussy if I just give her details of what we had- have planned.” He had to remember that it would happen, eventually, just not here and now. Which made it easier, and yet harder at the same time.
“You know, I can think of ways to distract me. You two can help.”
He was forcing a smile, one that he wasn’t really feeling between the depression and the hangover, but he was going to try.
***
“It’s possible.” Carson turned from the stove to look at Scorpius. “But in the meantime… consider me willing to be as helpful as I actually can be.”
Because for all he generally gave Scorpius no small amount of shit -- that was just the friendship they had, thank you, the friendship they’d been fortunate to quickly recapture -- this was not the time. This was the time for him to do anything he could to get Scorpius through this day and the next bit of time surrounding it.
Loss wouldn’t be dealt with in a single day, after all.

Lissa took a seat at the table and looked from her boyfriend back to Scorpius. "It's adorable that you think anything would get either one of us to be less fussy over you, but I feel like I can speak for both my sister and myself when I say we'll be happy to let you pretend telling her your plans will minimize it."
She rested her chin on her hand. "As to the other, you know that I am always ready and willing to help you with anything you'd like me to." She smiled at him. "I have been known to be pretty good at helping with things."

Scorpius whined a bit and rubbed at his temples, regretting that he’d been stupid. “I don’t drink like that anymore. I haven’t in years, barely more than two or three glasses. I- Yesterday was stupid, but once things started getting all fuzzy, I just didn’t care.” He didn’t know why he had to explain that to them, but he did. “I don’t remember anything besides almost falling off the barstool, and waking up this morning.”
“There is a phoenix involved in the planning, Lissa. I think that should distract her quite a bit.” He had mentioned more than once that he and Louis gave in to Simone a lot, and that was one of the things he’d just shrugged about when she brought it up.
***
“I’d say it’s a pretty understandable reason for drinking that much,” Carson said. “Not quite how I’d have responded, but even so. Understandable nonetheless.”
He tilted his head slightly at the phoenix bit. “You know, that phoenix thing would surprise me a whole lot more if I hadn’t paid attention to what you’ve told me about Simone,” he said. “I mean, okay. The phoenix itself surprises me, but it does seem like the vague kind of thing she’d come up with.”
Honestly, Carson liked the woman. Didn’t even know her, wouldn’t ever know her, but he liked her.
