Jedikiah had long since stopped avoiding being social because of John. Now whenever he avoided it, it was because of himself. But he'd reached the point where even when he wasn't feeling terribly social, he still didn't always want to hide. Sometimes the thoughts rolling around in his head were the kind of thoughts that would get to him if left to his own devices, would drag him down and make him think too much. And while they were worth thinking, yes, there was a difference between thinking about them and disappearing under the weight of them.
Which was why he'd settled in at Starbucks that morning -- there were too many people around for him to get completely lost in his thoughts.
And he was definitely thinking. Father's Day had been bittersweet, between thoughts of his child back home and remembering the little girl he'd oh so briefly had with Vanya. And of course there was some part of him that thought of John, because he'd never not think of the young man that, no matter what John believed, truly had been like a son to him.
Shaking himself out of those thoughts, at least for a while, Jedikiah turned his attention back to his phone and the inconsequential reading he'd been doing. Nothing particularly interesting, but at least it kept him from thinking much more.
