"Hey, Baby Girl," Derek said as Penelope opened the door, "Did you miss me?"
Somehow Derek had managed to find himself back in Madison Valley; the most confusing part of being in the domed city was remembering being there before. What had happened to him? How?
A Welcome Committee member gave him the same speech and items he'd had the first time he'd arrived. Derek had tried to make sense of the memories he had of the place. He had not remembered the city while back home with his team. He and Penelope had gone to Emily's service and they'd consoled each other at home. There had been no interlude for them in this city. All of his memories started after the funeral and diverged from the memories he had of being at home.
Derek remembered the last day he'd been in Madison Valley---only he didn't remember when he came home and when he'd gotten home he hadn't remembered this place. It was some kind of alternate timeline or dimension or both at the same time.
Derek really wished Reid was with him.
Checking his memories against the directory on his phone provided by the city, Derek saw Penelope was still in the same place she'd been when he'd left. He walked there and knocked on the door before he could think about what he was doing too much. Who knew how long he'd been gone? What if Penelope had a whole new life here? What if she didn't want him here?
Smiling at her as if he had no doubts, Derek asked, "Can I come in? I just got here. Back here."
