He'd settled into town quite happily and then the other week had happened. He'd been prepared for the weird stuff in town to hit him eventually, but he hadn't really expected it to happen so soon. He supposed he was luckier than some people had been, from the sound of things -- at least the person he'd been, the person he'd at least thought he was, had been a good man. A complicated one with a troubled past, but a good one nonetheless.
All the same, Morales had been doing his best to ignore that part of it all. He'd spent more of the past week helping Carson cover a couple of Adam's shifts; after what the younger man had gone through, his instinct had been to spend time with his daughter. Nobody begrudged him that; in fact, as far as Morales could tell, nobody was even the slightest bit surprised that it'd been his response to everything.
Adam was back on a more solid schedule, which meant that Morales wasn't pulling the kind of shifts he hadn't pulled since before he'd come to the States. Infinitely less stressful work and he was still capable of pulling those hours, but he wasn't used to it. Sleep had been his favorite thing during the previous week, though, but that was how it'd always been for him. The longer, more stressful days at work always did make him appreciate the simple things in life.
He'd spent most of his day off running errands and then headed for the bookstore. He hadn't really been looking for anything, but sometimes that was the most fun of all. On the recommendation of a helpful staffer, he'd picked out a couple books and was now settled in at the little cafe attached to the store. It was quieter than Starbucks and right then, he appreciated that. Wasn't as easy to people watch, but he was okay with that.
He'd spent a week doing entirely too much of that.
