Ruby didn't go to school. Apart from only being here a week, the idea of being forced inside another institutional building with a bunch of kids didn't sit well with her. Ruby knew things were different here, but she also knew it would take time for her to even begin to feel like normal. She also knew she was going to have a lot to catch up on so tutoring made more sense to her. Of course, in order to do that, she had to get material from the school itself.
Walking the school hallway was surreal for Ruby and she couldn't help but feel tense as she tried to figure out where the guidance counselors were. She could stop and ask one of the adults for help, but every time she locked eyes on way, she found herself choosing a different path through the school. When the bell rang for lunch, Ruby found herself pressed up against the wall as hundreds of kids filled the halls for lunch. She suddenly felt out of place as the students went on with their day. She closed her eyes and took a breath.
