Weekends were always the hardest. Mainly because weekends were when parties usually took place, and Klaus was very used to going to those. He hadn't been to one in a while because he knew that the more he had to be around drugs and alcohol, the more likely he was to break down and tell himself that just one drink or just one pill wouldn't hurt him. He wasn't an idiot - he knew it didn't work that way. Avoiding drugs and alcohol would be something that he would struggle with his whole life, and there was no reason to put himself in a situation that made it harder.
So here he was, on Friday night, at Walmart of all places. There were actually a rather large number of people here, but Madison Valley was one of those small towns where things closed early enough that people actually met at Walmart to be social. Hey, it wasn't his idea.
He was sitting in the little cafe with a coke and a soft pretzel with cheese, and he was watching people go in and out. As ridiculous as it was to spend his Friday night at Walmart, at least the noise from the people and the cash registers and the other ambient noises in the store kept the spirits quiet better than sitting in his quiet, empty apartment did.
Oh, what his life had become.
