Another word from our inspirations...
Severus untied the roll of parchment from the leg of the magnificent Snowy Owl, gave the bird a treat, and sent it on its way before opening and reading the letter. As he read, his eyebrows rose and a satisfied smirk spread across his lean face. Turning away from the window, he yelled for his lover to join him.
“Lupin! Come quickly! I need you.”
Remus ran in from the bathroom, a towel wrapped tightly around his hips, his face bearing a few faint traces of shaving cream.
“What’s the matter?” Wand in hand, his eyes darted quickly around the small room, but when he found nothing alarming, he dropped his wand hand and turned to Severus with a puzzled look.
In answer, Severus waved the letter at him. “Nothing is the matter! Very much the opposite in fact. We’re having an effect! People have begun to show real interest in contributing to Snupin Santa this year!”
“That’s great, Severus.”
“Yes, it looks as if quite a few of the great contributors of past years will be writing and drawing for us again as well as many newcomers.” Severus wore a look of supreme satisfaction and more than a little relief.
Remus conjured up a small towel and wiped the remaining traces of shaving cream off his face. “Terrific... Now if you’ll excuse me for a minute, I’d like to finish getting dressed.”
“But you haven’t heard the best part yet.” Once more Severus brandished the letter. “Guess who this is from?”
Remus shrugged. “Um... a devoted fan? Someone who needs our help with their story?”
Severus shook his head and waved the letter once more. “Better!”
“Okay, I give up. Who’s it from?” Remus smiled, he loved seeing Severus so excited.
“It’s from Snupin Santa herself!”
“Really? What’s she say?”
“She says she’s incredibly busy at the moment getting ready for the holidays, which is only to be expected, but she truly appreciated our making that little post on lupin_snape to try to get everyone excited about this year’s fest.”
Severus straightened up and smirked over the top of the letter. “She wants us to make another post and pass on some information to all this year’s contributors.”
“Okay,” Remus nodded his agreement. “What does she want them to know?”
“She’s extending the hard deadline for submissions from November 15 to November 29! She’s giving them two whole weeks more to get everything in. Isn’t that fabulous!”
“That’s very generous.”
“It certainly it. There is a condition, however.”
“Oh?”
“Yes, she wants all submissions to be ready to be uploaded when they’re submitted. Since she’s extending the deadline, she won’t have time for any involved editing, which is only fair. That means that everything has to be beta-read and formatted properly. She suggests that if anyone has any concerns about their piece that they post it in a private LJ or IJ first so they can see what it looks like.”
“Makes sense.”
“Indeed.” Severus nodded. “There’s nothing worse than trying to read a story that’s full of misspellings or doesn’t have proper paragraph breaks, for example. Trying to read a huge unbroken block of text always gives me a headache.”
“Me, too. Anything else?”
“She says she’s going to allow sequels to previously posted works this time as long as the submission contains a good solid link to the previous work so people can click on it to see what happened before.” Severus nodded thoughtfully. “I think that’s an excellent idea. I’d enjoy reading continuations of many of the fine stories out there.”
“Absolutely. Is that it?”
Severus hesitated for a moment then added with a smirk, “She also says that all submissions should have lots of smut in them...”
Remus frowned slightly as Severus moved closer. “Did she really say that?”
Severus tossed the letter onto a nearby table and reached for the towel entwined around Remus’s narrow waist. “Perhaps not... but if any of the writers or artists want to contribute creations with high ratings, I’m certainly not going to dissuade them.”
Remus gasped as his towel slithered to the floor and Severus’s hands began to slide gently across his bare skin. “Do... don’t you think we should get started on the new post?” he whispered softly as Severus’s lips began to blaze a trail up the side of his throat.
“We can do that later,” Severus murmured huskily. “Right now, I think we need to concentrate on being inspiring...”
