Change of Heart?
They sat at the kitchen table, a pot of cooling tea and a vial of violent pink coloured potion in front of them.
“I’m not sure we should do this, Severus. I’m not so sure it’s a good idea.”
Snape stared at him. “It was your bloody idea in the first place, Remus. You can’t have changed your mind now, surely?”
Remus sighed and picked up the vial, wondering how he could phrase what he wanted to say without offending his husband. “It’s just that... well, something occurred....” He sighed again. ”Look, Severus, I can’t think of a way to say this that won’t upset you....”
“You’re no longer in love with me, you’ve decided you’re not gay, and you plan on running away with Tonks,” Severus sneered. “When have you ever worried about upsetting me? Out with it.”
“Good heavens, Severus! I’d never run off with Tonks.” Remus shuddered and reached for Severus’ hand. ”And I doubt I’ll ever not love you, you daft bat.” He leaned in and kissed his husband softly on the cheek. “My daft bat.”
Severus tried not to roll his eyes. “Enough sentimental claptrap. Just tell me.”
Remus took his hand back and started fidgeting with his tea cup, staring at the cup rather than Severus. “This potion - it won’t... well... how does it work? You won’t get girl parts, will you? I mean, I don’t think I could cope with girl parts. Not even on you.” Now he’d started he couldn’t stop. ”Don’t get me wrong, Sev. I love you. You know I do. But if you’re going to get girl parts, I just don’t think I could... when I think about it, it just really makes me feel....” He shuddered. “What if you got them and you expected me to do... things... with them... to them. I just couldn’t! And then you’d probably get all offended and upset, we’d argue, you’d say I don’t love you because if I did, I’d do... you know... things... and I just can’t do it, Severus! I can’t! I’ve never been attracted to women and the thought of you behaving like one terrifies me.“
Snape stared at him, unsure whether to laugh or take offence. He opted for a chuckle before speaking. ”And you call me a daft bat! Of course I’m not going to get girl parts, you idiot. Many things I may be, but confused about my sexuality is not one of them. There will be no girl parts. No breasts - or at least no obvious ones. I’m a man, Remus. I don’t want to be female. I just want you to have your child.”
Remus looked up, able to focus his thoughts on just one thing. “What do you mean no obvious breasts?”
Severus picked up the vial. “This little beauty should enable me to get pregnant. It’ll help magically form a womb and enable me to breastfeed for at least six months. What it won’t do is give me girl parts, or make me exceptionally girly while pregnant. There are no ovaries involved, so I won’t get boosts of oestrogen, which means we’ll have a boy.”
“Is it safe? How will the baby,” Remus blushed, “you know... get out?”
“Caesarean. I’ve already talked to Poppy Pomphrey about it whilst I was researching. She’s agreed to be my midwife. Thinks I’m stark raving mad, but she’s agreed.”
“We’re getting rather ahead of ourselves though, don’t you think? I’m still not sure it’s a good idea after all,” Remus muttered.
With a sigh, Severus stood and pulled Remus to his feet. “We don’t have to do this now. Let’s sleep on it and see how you feel tomorrow.” He leered lecherously. “We can get some practising in, so that if we do decide to go ahead, we know exactly what we’re doing. It’d be terrible if I took the potion and we cocked it up...,“ he smirked. “So to speak.”
Remus groaned. “Merlin, Severus, that’s bad. That’s so very, very bad that you deserve to sleep alone.”
But he followed anyway as Severus smirked and headed to bed.
