Authors Notes: Don’t know if this qualifies as Snupiny enough but it popped into my head this morning after I read JKR’s gay revelation. I understand if it must be deleted.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me! You know how I struggled with it.” Severus fumed.
“I didn’t see how telling you would help.” Dumbledore’s portrait replied.
“How could it not have helped? I was an insecure teenager; I would have liked to have known I wasn’t the only gay Wizard on the planet.”
“I loved a megalomaniac, who destroyed thousands, maybe millions of lives, and then I killed him? Could I have told a teenager that?”
“I loved a werewolf, I could have understood.”
“Dear boy, you still love a werewolf.”
“I… he doesn’t… he couldn’t…”
“Have you ever tried?”
Severus looked at his shoes. “No. It doesn’t matter now anyway, he was married to a woman. Obviously, I wouldn’t be of interest.”
“Can you tell my honestly he never made overtures to you, before he was married?”
Severus found the rug particularly fascinating. Of course, Remus had made overtures but Severus had been afraid they didn’t want the same thing. Wild sex, yes, but what of love, companionship and possibly family?
Dumbledore’s eyes twinkled madly. “The sex could be wild! I happen to know he’s flown both sides of the Pitch. And I believe he and his son would like to complete their family.”
Severus didn’t want to know how the old man knew that, and he pushed Dumbledore out of his mind.
“Go to him, Severus. You’re not an awkward teenager anymore. You’re both fine men. Reach for what I couldn’t have.”
Severus wanted to, even though it was the old manipulator telling him this. “I still wish you would have told me.”
“We all make mistakes, Severus. I am sorry.”
Severus nodded. “Thank you, Albus.” He was out of the headmaster’s office in a moment, down the stairs and out the front of the castle. Apparating to the front of Remus’ cottage, he hoped Remus would be polite enough to offer tea. Severus would try to work his own brand of magic from there.
