Once again I'm a bit behind with keeping my communities on lj and ij up-to-date. Then again, I went from trying to find a job to "start next week and find a flat while living in a pension/boarding house due to the 3 1/2 hour commute by train in one direction*

I didn't really do that much fandom wise... this was originally posted at the end of January on LJ.

So, I won first place in Challenge 121 of [info]severaplums back in November and never actually got around to creating a tutorial for it since I ended up being busy with rl deadlines for university, birthdays and other family events. I haven't really been doing much of anything (outside of modding [info]season20in20 and reading fics).

We're going from to

This tutorial was made with Photoshop CS5 and uses Curves, Hue/Saturation, Gradient Map, Brightness/Contrast and Flood Fill layers.

After doing the halftone texture I wanted to focus some more on a "smoother" colour focused texture. :)

Going from this image to this image for this set

This was made with Photoshop CS 5 using various filters and a flood fill layer. Most of these should be available in earlier versions of Photoshop.

I was invited to do a tutorial for either or both of the texture sets I made for Challenge 120. I couldn't decide which texture set to make a tutorial for so I made one for both. :)

So, I was invited to do another tutorial and while I was checking which number this tutorial would receive, I found two folder that didn't have a number yet... Confused I checked it out and found out that the two without a number had been posted, but two other tutorials that *had* been numbered hadn't actually been posted to my journal (and therefore weren't re-posted here). I luckily found them on severalplums so I'll just be posting them here right now.

After that you can expect two more new texture tutorials because I received mod's invitation to do one for one or both sets I submitted for Challenge 120 at severalplums and I couldn't decide which one to do :D

But onto the first tutorial I neglected to post here. This was first posted on in 2009 for Challenge 53 at severalplums:D

We're going from to using Photoshop CS3.

I got Mod's Invitation for this icon over at severalplums @LJ and this is my tutorial for it :)

I had it completely written out on Monday, but was too pressured down with two projects to add in the links... One of those two evil projects down and another one is just looking for where the damn error is.

Anyway, this tutorial will be split into two parts. The first part will be the actual icon I made and the second will be about the texture I made for it. They're solely split for neatness.
Be aware that this tutorial is image heavy!!

Both tutorials were made with Photoshop CS3. Individual features used will be listed in the notes for each tutorial.

Tutorial Part 1: Icon

Going from to

Notes:
* uses layer masks, levels and curves.
* unless otherwise stated, layers are set to Normal 100%

Tutorial Part 2: Texture

Going from to

Notes:
* uses layer merge, levels and blur filters
* unless otherwise stated, layers are set to Normal 100%
* clicking on the images should lead to their original size.

If you have any questions left, feel free to ask.

Apparently I'm not as up-to-date with posting things here as I'm at LJ. This goes for tutorials and 20in20 icon sets. I'll be posting them here shortly, starting with this tutorial...

I won first place last week over at severalplums @LJ and this is the tutorial for my winning icon.

We're going from to .

I made this icon in Photoshop CS3 (on Windows) using one filter and a Curves layer.

This project spans nearly a year by now, but sometime in the summer last year I got my hands on a book about Photoshop 7 (courtesy of the university library) and eventually started taking notes. Half a year later (aka earlier this year) I got the book again and this time I was determined not only to take notes, but to type them up as well.

I offered to translate it as I go (while typing it up) and I found someone who was interested (giving me a reason for my already existing wish to translate it). I ended up finding out about a file where Photoshop stores the translations, I had a trusted online dictionary available and had realised that there were plenty of screencaps of menus, palettes and other things. That certainly helped me find the translations easier (Every now and then I also found out other interesting things and added them)

To summarize what you will find:
- Step by Step instructions for recording and using actions
- Key combinations and useful tips on what you can do with the tools Photoshop has to offer
- There are also general informations on tools, layers, the differences between similar tools and other things that might be useful

Anyway, I uploaded a version to Google Docs an published it: http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=dgqfgwjh_26djx8wcv4&hl=en
For those who would like to add to it (or simply prefer a .doc): http://www.mediafire.com/file/5znd52zymv1/Photoshop7.doc
I also saved a .pdf: http://www.mediafire.com/file/yzzdazbzlwy/Photoshop7.pdf

And as a last note to those who might want to print it: There are two tables in there that are a bit wider than the page average. I printed it myself and both were still completely on it.

I made first at severalplums' texture challenge and this is my tutorial for it. I think I made this originally in PS CS3 (using PS7 to compare with my notes and make the pictures used in this tutorial) using primarily filters.

Warning: This tutorial is image heavy!
