It had been a very long weekend for the girl. She had been working for most of the two days she had been in Salem and was very much looking forward to leaving and getting home. Still, it seemed like her boss was intentionally keeping her late and as she watched the sun set farther in the sky, the more she began to dread the trek back. It was not a tricky drive home, but it was a long drive back. She had made the first one in good time because she let early enough on Friday. The sun had been up the whole trip and she was not all that tired. No such case now as she packed up her bag. At least she had a nice hotel that she had held for her. Sometimes working in the federal building had comforts that were otherwise pointless. She was almost sad to be leaving the big fluffy bed she had stayed in for two nights and the Jacuzzi tub. Another time, perhaps, she would purposefully rent out such a room for herself. Her birthday could be a good excuse, after all. She smirked and looked around, remembering that Nico was thinking about the tournament in town next month. As long as she did not scare him aware, she would have that to look forward to. Then again, she knew that they could sleep in the Bronco and she would have fun with him. She was glad that Luca seemed at least undeterred by the rumors that surrounded Nico for years. Thora liked him and knew that her cousin and brother would, as well. Her only worry was her more-or-less brother, Caius. He did not handle her having boyfriends well. The last thing she needed was him finding out that she had feelings for someone through someone else. The girl needed to find a way to tell him. That could pass the time on the trip back. She gave a small laugh to herself as she closed her backpack and gave the hotel room one last look-over. She did not see anything she had forgotten, so Thora headed to the front desk and returned the room key before heading to the parking lot.
The only thing that was difficult for her was the fact that she was trying to get used to the Passat. It handled so differently than her Bronco and she was still not used to being so low to the ground. In Sexy, she felt like she was on top of the world. In the Passat, she was almost scared of bigger trucks. Still, it was better than Ty's van. Luca always said that her truck was going to be the death of her, but really that van was way worse. She did not know how many times she ended up towing it home for him. She tossed the bag in the backseat, so glad she did not bother with her laptop. Her phone was fully charged and she had everything that was taken with her. Thora was officially ready to head home. Before doing so, she put her newest attempt to make her phone Eddie-Proof and put on a hard casing she bought at a local T-Mobile store. Soon, the Eagles were playing from her speakers and she headed south for the trip home.
She had not been on the road more than a half hour when the road grew dark and she realized it was time to switch to more energetic music. Thora pulled to the side to switch her playlist. Now with a louder playlist blaring through, she began to drive again, unaware of the car that had pulled behind her. It seemed like nothing more than someone keeping pace with her in the lane next to her for a while. They were not in her blind spot, so she knew there was no reason to be worried. The girl coasted down the interstate, drumming her thumbs against the steering wheel and mouthing along to the songs. Linkin Park was such a sad band to see fizzle out of popularity. Every time she listened to them, she mourned the end of their boom. Her eyes periodically looked in the rear-view mirror at the car, which was really a big truck. She missed hers more than ever now that she saw what was keeping pace with her. The Passat was so... quiet and efficient. There was something satisfying about pulling into random gas stations for her Amps and Rockstars when the gas tank was low. No such option with the compact. Soon, she reminded herself. Soon enough, she would be pissing off the eco-freaks in her hometown and giggling to herself about it.
That's when things suddenly got bright. The truck behind her picked up speed and threw on the high beams. Thora laid on the horn, trying to tell them to turn down their lights. To the side was a long, steep drop through bushes and trees- not something she wanted to go explore at the moment. When she looked back at the truck, it was suddenly moving into her lane. Thora pushed on the gas as hard as she could, hating the pathetic four-cylinder engine she was stuck with. The roar of the truck's engine catching up made everything worse. Now Thora was scared. She looked over her shoulder, trying to change lanes before the truck was on her, but the lights made it impossible for her to judge how far away it was. She found out quickly as the whole car jerked to the side. The girl gave out a shriek of surprise and tried to correct her path, only to have her back end smashed into by the truck. Her doors were pressed against the right corner of the truck's hood and began to push the car toward the curve. Her power steering seemed to have been damaged with the impact and the doors were stuck shut. She did the first thing she could think of and used the emergency call option from her phone. When the woman on the other line picked up, Thora barely had time to say she was being run off the road before she felt her whole body jerk to the side and then toward the ceiling as the truck pushed her off the side and down the steep slope. The woman on the other end began to ask if she was there, but the voice sounded distant. She did not know how far the car tumbled or where she had stopped. All she knew was that she was upside-down and her phone miraculously survived. She couldn't breathe well enough to reply with more than crying.

The phone rang at the Johnson-Laken residence. With the parents out on a date night, Tyler was the only one home after rehearsal with the band. Seeing it was a number from out of the area, he almost let it go to the answering machine. Who would be calling them at seven at night on a Sunday? Something told him to answer, however. When he did, the voice asked if his parents were home. When Tyler said they were not, the voice informed him that his sister was in the ICU at Salem General Hospital after a car accident and they needed to go up there as soon as possible. After leaving him the doctor's contact information and her room number, the nurse hung up the phone.

Thora's head felt like it was inside a giant bell. She was confused and in a lot of pain, but not in pain. It was all foggy. She could hear muttering around her, but it was as if she were trapped in a bubble. She could not focus on one sound or another and it was driving her crazy. Her eyes were too heavy to open easily, but she fought them to do so. It was dull in the room she was in. She knew she was laying on a bed of some kind and she could feel needles in her. What happened? She could not remember for the life of her. Still, she could hear it from a male voice to her left. Something about broken arm, ribs, collar bone. Did someone get hurt? Was she hurt? Yes. That explained her pain. Loss of blood explained the needle. She was in a hospital. Why? All she remembered was a bright light and the sound of crashing metal. Everything else was a blur. With her eyes adjusting but throbbing, she looked at the man who was doing most of the talking. He looked at her and gave a small smile. "Good evening. How are you doing," he asked. Thora tried to talk, but it was harder than she thought. Something was up her nose. Oxygen tubes? "I hurt-" she tried to say. He nodded slowly. "Do you know what day it is?" "Yeah... the tenth," she replied. "Very good, who is the president?" "Obama." He looked her over as if this had been the hardest question thus far- as if she had been wrong before. "What's your name?" "Tiger Lily," she replied confidently. The doctor looked at one of the nurses. "No, your name is Thora. We spoke with your brother, he said he is on the way with you parents." She looked at him confused for a moment. Brother? "I need Peter," she replied. Something was wrong. "Who is Peter, Thora," he asked her patiently. Thora huffed heavily, even though it hurt. She could feel the medication lulling her back into a sleep. "I need the Lost Boys," she said in a groggy tone. "Just call for Peter. He'll come running..." Her eyes slowly shut and the girl drifted back into a medicated sleep.
