Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current location:Ravenclaw Common Room
Current mood:jubilant

Who: All Ravenclaws, particularly the Quidditch team
What: Celebration for winning the match against Gryffindor and Merwyn's birthday
When: Saturday evening/night
Where: Ravenclaw Tower
Summary: The Ravenclaws are celebrating the recent win against Gryffindor and Merwyn with all sorts of treats and merriment.

Walking up to the Ravenclaw dormitory door, the bronze eagle knocker asked, "The beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end, and the end of every place. What am I?"

Benjy replied with a quick, "The letter 'E'," and noted that even the knocker seemed too happy to make the questions difficult tonight. He shifted the weight of a case of butterbeer (kindly shared by the house elves) as he elbowed the door open.

It felt great to be able to celebrate, especially with how beat down everyone seemed to be feeling. There was a minor thread of guilt flitting through Benjy's joy, though. Benjy was still wearing the Gryffindor sweat band, and the smile on his face flickered just a touch as he stared at the scarlet and gold around his wrist. Even though Ravenclaw had put in such great work and truly earned the win, Gryffindor had an even worse bout of grief that was only added to tonight. Especially for Alice. He, probably better than anyone else, could understand what it would feel to be sidelined from the final year of being able to play on your team.

Regardless, the Ravenclaw's had every right to celebrate and enjoy themselves. "I got the butterbeer!" Benjy called out as he stepped into the common room.

"And there it was, just me and the Snitch. Like Uric the Oddball trying to catch the rabid kneazle, I reached out for it and..."

Gilderoy was feeling giddy with the sense of victory - and the knowledge that he, and he alone, had been the main responsible for his team's victory. Not that the others hadn't played an important part, of course, but let's be honest, Seekers were Seekers.

He was sitting on an armchair in the Ravenclaw common room, surrounded by a group of giggling third- and fourth-years who were staring adoringly at him while he told the tale of his magnificent catch. The sound of Benjy's voice, however, made him look back.

"Ooh, Butterbeer! I'm very sorry, my dears," he said to the disappointed girls, "but I must join my captain in celebration."

"You better watch out. Your broom isn't going to be able to fly straight with that swelled head," Benjy joked to Gilderoy as he walked over.

"Although, I have to admit, we were in a pretty tight spot until you caught that snitch. Benjy shifted the crate down onto one of the tables before he was attacked by everyone wanting a bottle. He winced as he stretched out his left arm. A bludger had caught him off-guard early in the match and there was already a deep purple bruise blossoming from the site of impact.

Benjy grabbed two bottles out of the crate and handed one to his Seeker. "Cheers, mate."

To say Kira was proud of her brother would be an understatement. Not only did he lead his team to victory, Benjy was graceful about the entire thing. He didn't gloat in front of the Gryffindors, and even had insisted on his team wearing arm bands out of respect for the Lions' fallen captain. True to Benjamin Fenwick's character, he managed to outdo himself yet again. Try as she did to make it out to the pitch to give him a celebratory hug, plenty of other students ranging from Ravenclaws to Slytherins had beaten her to the punch. She settled with giving him a knowing smile and wave prior to heading back to the common room to help prepare for the coming celebratory party.

One by one, players trickled into the room, typically surrounded by a throng of admirers. When Kira saw Gilderoy entertaining a group of underclassmen, she simply smirked and shook her head. His animated stories used to impress her once upon a time, but she had outgrown those days. It was still amusing to see how they fawned over him all the same. Once her brother entered the room, the cheering began to swell into one loud roar of voices and applause. Kira closed up her most recent rental from the school library, Hairy Snout, Human Heart. She jumped down from the window seat and placed her book on the cushion before squeezing her way through the crowd.

"'Scuse me... Pardon me... Oh, was that your- So sorry." Within no more than seconds she was at Benjy's side, reaching her hand out to relieve him of the butterbeer so he could greet his adoring housemates. "Well done, you," she added after some of the Ravenclaws began to drift off on their own. Giving Gilderoy a quick glance, Kira wrapped an arm around her brother to give him a brief congratulatory hug.

Wincing again as Kira squeezed on his bruised arm, Benjy looked down into his sister's eyes. "Thanks, but honestly, I was rubbish out there tonight." He spoke quietly so that only his sister could hear, but kept his smile on to keep up with the celebration.

He wrapped his arm around Kira, which was much more comfortable on his bruise and gave her a hug back. He continued to speak softly, "I think this Alice thing's got me completely out of sorts. Not to mention that taking a bludger to the arm within the first ten minutes is not a good way to start the match." Benjy twisted his arm to show her the bruise.

Benjy's nonverbals were made crystal clear, and as if on cue, Kira released her grip on her brother's arm. How could she have been so inattentive? Just earlier a bludger had nearly taken off that arm, and here she was leaning on her brother as if she had no care in the world. Kira smiled apologetically back at her brother before crossing her arms over her torso in an effort to keep herself from causing further physical pain. When he spoke for only her to hear, Kira took that as her opportunity to steal her big brother to herself for a while. With the hand that was peaking out from under her arm, she tugged on his shirt to pull Benjy slightly further away from the others. "Between you and me? You were the best one out there by my book. Or did you not see how Potter cracked under the pressure of attempting to be captain? Not only did you manage your team beautifully, your team bested the Lions. That's not rubbish, if you ask me anyway."

Kira welcomed her brother's embrace, leaning her head against his chest temporarily before making a point to slowly walk with him closer to the other Ravenclaws. She knew better than to hog the captain to herself after a game like that, but even so, a bit of sibling time was long overdue. "Alice is on the mend. If Pomfrey can't fix her up within the month, I'd be surprised." Kira's gaze shifted to her brother's arm when it was referenced, stopping dead in her tracks to take a proper look at it. Her right hand clung to his wrist to twist the arm around, however tenderly, to get a better look. "Merlin's beard, Ben. We're lucky your arm wasn't severed by the look of this one," she added, only part in jest. Her comment was completely warranted considering the severity and the location of the bruise. A few more centimeters medial to his body, and Pomfrey would have been putting him back together as well. Alice wouldn't have been the only captain out of commission for a while. "Want me to push Sirius down a flight of stairs for you?"

Benjy followed along with Kira as she tugged on his shirt. His huge smile softened to a warmer smile when Kira was talking him up. But as soon as she brought up James, Benjy's feelings completely switched. No matter how much people thought that the loss was Potter's fault or that he had failed the team in some way, James had actually done a good job for a last minute replacement.

"Thank you. But, you know, I think James actually did quite well as the captain. The team was thrown off balance by not having Alice, and he stepped in to take care of what they needed. I mean, he had to be doing something right to keep the game that even all along. No matter what Gilderoy says, there's a lot of luck involved when it comes to the snitch.

"And I know that Alice is going to be fine. It was just such a low blow. I mean, even though we are all a competitive bunch, we can't help but band together." He shrugged it off, but the whole situation still bothered him a great deal. Another student blatantly attacking Alice? There had better be some justice for what was done.

As Kira turned his arm to inspect where he had been hit, he knew that she was going to react badly. "It looks a lot worse than it really is. I'm going to take care of it before bed tonight. I just haven't had a chance since the match. And Sirius was just playing up to his position's standards. It's my fault for not paying better attention." He brought back his joking tone to try to lighten the mood back up. Truth be told, his arm hurt like hell, but he wasn't going to complain about a little thing like that, especially when Alice had it so much worse.

Having lingered in the changing rooms a little longer than usual - she had decided to change into clean clothes down in the locker area and had sorted out her hair and a little make-up while she was at it - Septima arrived a little after the first couple of her team members. She had also made a detour via the kitchens to pick up the cakes she had bribes the house elves into making for Merwyn's birthday celebration - a medium sized fruit cake, a large victoria sponge and a very large chocolate cake with thick icing.

Balancing the three on top of each other, she had levitated them most of the way across the castle, and collared a passing house elf to open the door to the common room. Carefully lowering the cake boxes through the door, she made her way to the table to set them down. "Out of my way, sustenance coming through!" she said, making a mental note to thank Delia later.

Continuing to ride the high of the excitement, Benjy was giddily distracted at every moment. This was fairly normal after a win, Benjy figuring it had something to do with how intensely in thought he was during the match having to balance out afterward. More likely, it was because he was really in the goofy and tangential stages of exhaustion. And the copious amounts of sugary food and drink. Which is also why he tended to crash unexpectedly at some earlier point than most everyone else.

Noticing Septima walk in the common room with some (very delicious-looking) cakes, Benjy looked up from Kira and called to her. "Septima, come over and join us! We were just breaking out some butterbeer and congratulating Gilderoy on a wonderful catch. Oh, and we need to toast Merwyn's birthday!"

Rolling her eyes ever so slightly, Septima separated the three cakes out and lifted them out of the boxes and onto the table at the side of the room. "What do you think these are here for, silly?" she asked, taking out her wand and tapping each platter twice.

"OK, there's a refilling charm on each plate, but it'll only work until the last person out goes to bed. What's leftover tomorrow will be the last of it. Secondly, I've also enchanted the plates so that no-one can jump the queue for a second bit before someone's had their first. Trust me, you don't want to try breaking that charm" she called out to the assembling crowd, a little grin on her face at her own spellwork.

It really felt good to win. Even though the Gryffindor team was missing one of their key players, they'd still really played a good game. It worried Ava a little to think that had Alice been playing, they might have lost, but there was no sense in dwelling on it. Besides, it took more than one great player to make a great team. They'd won a fair game, and that was the bottom line. She would by no means become complacent, but she was definitely proud of her team. Now it was time to celebrate their victory, and Merwyn's birthday for that matter.

She'd run up to her dorm room to change after having a shower, and fixed her hair up a bit to look a little more presentable. By the time she got back down to the common room, the party was in full swing. There were cakes and students were gathering around to have a good time. It'd be a good way to unwind and just let loose before going back to the everyday stresses of academics. Ava went right for the cakes, examining the delicious specimens.
