Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Amelia and OPEN
WHEN: October 13th; Later
WHERE: Hufflepuff Common Room to start
WHAT: Amelia is not happy about her brother being not happy. So she's taking a little time to just vent/rant/talk/whatever!
RATING: TBD, but likely low

Amelia Bones was mad. Well, perhaps mad was a bit extreme. She was unsettled. The whole journal thing had gotten entirely out of control. She had no idea why Ed was being so...so...infuriating! Of course she was used to him being overprotective, and most of the time she indulged it because she loved him to pieces, but this was a bit overboard. Mia wasn't sure if it was the flirting or the comment about Trish, but something had set him off big time. She wanted to fix it, but now he wasn't speaking to her OR Trish. Or Tibby, for that matter. The whole thing had spiraled and now she felt awful. Not about flirting with Tibby, however. She just didn't want Ed to be mad at anyone, least of all Trish. It was something she didn't know how to fix, and when Amelia didn't know how to fix something, she became a bit sullen. Her room suddenly seemed to stifling, and she could not look at her journal any longer. Hestia wasn't around just then, which meant she had no one to rant to. At least not if she stayed in her room.

Closing the book, she sighed heavily as she sat up from her sprawled position across the mattress. Pulling her hair back into a ponytail, she decided to head down into the common room. It was late, but Mia wasn't sure if it was past curfew or not. Hopefully there were some people milling about down there that she could talk to, even though she wouldn't spill her feelings and thoughts about this whole thing to just anyone. Company would be better than sulking alone, though. Her initial arrival in the common area was disappointing. Mia didn't see anyone, but she felt better having move away from the frustration. It was a start. Taking a seat in one of the large cushioned chairs by the window, she glanced out, trying not to obsess over what had happened as she contemplated leaving to wander the castle a bit.

It had been one of those days for Amos that was really, really weird. First of all, the business with Tiberius was still playing on his mind and he just could not get his head round it in any way, shape or form.

Then, there was the stuff with the anonymous quill writer, and that most definitely pissed him off. In Amos' view, if you were going to be unpleasant enough to be so bigoted, the least you could do would be to not add to the list of your attitude problems by being a coward.

Finally, he did not like his patrol partner. At all. Spending even the couple of hours in her company that was necessary was too much for him, so when he climbed into the Hufflepuff Common Room through the portrait hole, he really was in the beginnings of a foul mood.

The common room was particularly quiet tonight, but Mia didn't mind too much. Sure, right now was one of the rare times she would've appreciated the distraction of company, but she wasn't counting on it to cheer her up or anything. Being upset about the whole situation was silly, but Mia felt like she was responsible in some way. Ridiculous, since talking to people wasn't illegal, but it had definitely gotten out of hand. Now Ed wasn't talking to her and she hated thinking he was mad at her; even if he'd said he wasn't. Sighing, she shifted to draw her legs up under her, propping her head on her hand as she stared out into the dark night.

There were clouds covering the moon, though shafts of light peeked out in certain places. It looked eerie to Mia, though her attention shifted when she heard someone climbing through the portrait hole. Turning to look, she managed a smile when she saw Amos entering the common room. He seemed a bit preoccupied, but she wasn't going to ignore him when he looked about as happy as she felt. "Rough night?" she said, trying not to speak too loudly, but making sure he could still hear her.

By way of reply, Amos mimed aiming a kick at a chair as he passed one of those still lying around by the fire. He was annoyed, sure, but still in the mood to try and make a pretty girl laugh (apparently the flirt could never quite be knocked out of him).

He sort of slouched as he walked, his shoulders sagging as he plonked himself in a chair near hers, cheekily swinging his legs around to lie across her lap, figuring if that was crossing a line, she'd make it perfectly clear. "Sometimes, this school drives me mad" he said, simply.

Amelia nearly laughed at the mere way he sagged his way into a chair, but managed to hold herself in check for now. She didn't nudge his feet so that they were no longer covering her lap, though. Not yet. Eying them pointedly, her eyes raised to look at Amos as he started to explain what was wrong. The simple sentence said so much, and Mia found herself nodding in emphatic agreement.

"I am with you there," she muttered, though couldn't help but allow the corners of her mouth to tug up as she looked at Amos. Sometimes he was just too adorable. "What has you saying that on this fine evening, though?"

He nearly began to shift his legs at the way Amelia looked at him, but stood his ground, figuring he'd try out the "pity me!" way of going about things first and see how that worked out. He would certainly do his best to be appealing when it came to his social interactions with decent young women, it was true.

Amos checked off the names on his fingers as he spoke. "One, Odette bloody Runcorn. Two, Tiberius bloody Ogden. Three, the fact that I end up having to punctuate names with the word bloody because of people being bloody annoying."

He tilted his head up from his position sprawled over the seats, looking up at Amelia in what was a deliberately obvious attempt at a "pity me!" pout.

One slender eyebrow rose as Tiberius' name was mentioned, and she wondered if this was just the night for all Hufflepuff boys to disagree. The first one she could understand, though Mia didn't know Odette well enough to truly judge. Therefore she kept her opinions reserved for now until she knew better, but Amos' opinion was impossible to miss. "It seems the Hufflepuff boys are having a night tonight. You and Tiberius have a spat too?" Amelia wasn't sure if he'd gotten access to a journal recently, but figured it was safe to discuss it considering most of the conversation was public.

"As for the other...I'm guessing the patrol did not go well?" she added, Amos' pout doing her in almost instantly, even as she was smirking at the obvious effort behind it.

Amos sighed heavily, running a hand through his short hair, rumpling it as he spoke. "Yeah... he's keeping something from me and damn it but I've no idea what" he said, looking genuinely concerned about his friend's welfare. He'd never seen Tiberius look so overwrought and, well, damaged, and it was beginning to freak him out.

He shook his head when thinking about that Runcorn bint. "I don't even know why I got put with her this time round, she's only a fifth year" he muttered. "I think someone's been messing with the schedules, but she's just intolerable."

"Do you think it's something serious? You look worried." This was beyond typical 'I fought with you' worry. Amos looked genuine in his concern, and that bothered her. She didn't like to think something big could be wrong with Tiberius. After everything that had already happened tonight, Mia just was not feeling up to anything else. Granted, she thought the disagreement with Ed had been spawned from her, but now she wasn't so sure. Maybe there was an underlying issue.

Watching as he ran a hand through his hair and then muttered about Runcorn, she couldn't help but snicker. "What did she do this time? I don't think I've ever dealt with her much," she said, trying to remember. Amelia didn't discriminate, but she wasn't going to go around offering candy and hugs to everyone. She wasn't that kind of girl.

Rubbing his face in concentration, Amos thought back to the moment in which he had encountered Tiberius in the Entrance Hall. "Maybe I'm overreacting, but... I'm not sure how, but he looked like he'd hurt himself. Told me he'd gone for a broom ride through the forest..." he scoffed slightly, not wishing to be cruel, but showing Amelia that he didn't buy a word of the older boy's excuse.

"And as for Runcorn" he said, before beginning to speak in a high pitched, whiny voice that was undoubtedly an attempt at imitation, "Diggory! Diggory, you sort that out, I'm not doing it... Diggory! You shouldn't have taken those points from Slytherin! Diggory, you're not allowed to shove me in a vanishing cabinet and leave me there..."

That certainly didn't sound good. Amelia didn't know him as well as her brother did, but he didn't seem the type to go hurting himself on purpose. So that left the question of what had happened. "What makes you think he didn't really go for a fly?" Maybe Amos had seen something in Tiberius' expression that gave away the lie. She certainly didn't like thinking that something serious and potentially dangerous could be going on. That was just not what Mia wanted to hear. Amos obviously felt confident he was right in his assumptions, which just made her feel more worried.

Despite the seriousness of part of their conversation, she found herself laughing as he started to imitate the other prefect. Her eyes widened at the mention of a vanishing cabinet, and she gave him a playful push as she tried to disguise her laughter. "You did NOT lock her in a vanishing cabinet! Did you really?!"

Amos wrinkled his nose as he thought, picturing the image in his mind as he recalled it, in order to be perfectly accurate. "The way he was speaking, stumbling over his words... but it seemed like a prepared excuse, you know? Like he'd been caught out doing something and he didn't want me to know."

This actually made Amos feel pretty hurt, though he was trying not to show it. It was a bit of a blow to realise that one of your best mates was suffering through something and yet they felt as though they had to keep it from you.

He half-squeaked as Mia pushed at him playfully, and he returned the gesture by gently thwapping her knee with the back of his hand. "No! I'm a good boy" he grinned, "though trust me, more than five minutes in her company and you bloody well want to!"

"Hmm. That's definitely concerning. I wonder what he could be hiding, and why he was even outside at night in the first place." She had seen Tiberius' entry about the animals in the woods, but she didn't know how that could cause him harm. Unless he was wandering in parts off limits, which she didn't even want to consider. "I don't know what could be going on that he wouldn't tell you about. You two are mates," she added, looking perplexed at the idea. She knew Amos couldn't be happy with that tidbit, and hoped pointing it out didn't make him feel worse. Mia definitely didn't want to make anyone else angry tonight.

Laughing as he squeaked then gave her a returned swat, she glared playfully. "I will knock those feet off if you don't behave, Amos Diggory!" Of course she couldn't keep up the scolding act and wound up giggling again as he confessed to joking about the cabinet. Mia didn't think he was capable of that sort of thing, but it was always possible to be wrong. "I may want to, but I have a right head on my shoulders and would remember that is not the proper way to behave!" Despite her words, she was still smiling at the idea, which took away from the general message she was going for.

Amos sighed again, knowing full well that Amelia was right. They were supposed to be friends, so it was most definitely weird that Tiberius hadn't said anything. Unfortunately, despite it being the truth, it hadn't lifted his mood any to acknowledge it.

He beamed up at her, though, when she returned his playful messing around. Probably wouldn't be the greatest thing ever if anyone else showed up now and got the wrong idea, mind...

Amelia could tell that he was bothered by whatever was being kept from him. She would feel the same way if one of her friends did the same thing to her. "I'm sorry. I know it's not easy to acknowledge," she said gently, feeling bad for point out the obvious to Amos. It was good that he could still tease and play around, but she didn't want him to think she wasn't concerned with whatever was making him upset.

"And don't give me that cheeky grin. I know better than to believe that innocent look." Mia didn't think there was anything wrong with having fun with a friend, though she probably should've been wary after the discussion on her journal.

Amos didn't feel bitter in any way due to what Amelia was saying. He knew that she was only doing what a good person would - acknowledging that it was something causing him worry and reassuring him that he wasn't being unreasonable in showing his concern. He appreciated the support even if it didn't make him feel much better about the situation.

"Oh you do, do you?" he asked pointedly as he began to try and forget the whole thing.

"I most certainly do. I am onto you, Amos Diggory," she informed him, as if that was some grand feat. Amelia got the feeling that he was trying to forget about everything that was bothering him. That seemed like a good idea to her, since she had originally come down here to cheer herself up. Despite knowing what was behind it, Amos' smile was entirely too adorable. If she had been in a less playful mood, she might let him think he'd tricked her with that look even.

"Onto me? What precisely have I done, pray tell?" Amos enquired, leaning over and beginning to mercilessly tickle Amelia's side.

Amelia nodded solemnly, though her eyes were dancing with amusement. "Yes, onto you! I'm not sure, but you know," she started to explain, but the words cut off in an abrupt squeal as Amos began tickling her sides mercilessly. Which, of course, spurred a wriggling and giggling Mia into action.
