Characters: Everyone!
Setting: Great Hall, evening of Saturday, 30 October
Content: SFW
Summary: Everybody parties at the Halloween Ball!

This is your ball post, everyone! Here's how this will go.

Different locations in the Great Hall will be posted as separate comments, which will include a little description of each. These will be the Entrance Hall, the Dance Floor, and the Tables. You should reply to any/all of these comments with your character, and if other characters reply to that subthread, they are interacting with your character. Please indicate in the subject whether your character's subthread is open or whether it has participants in mind already (EG, maybe John is at the ball and taking a break from dancing at the tables, waiting to see if someone comes up to him, so the title for his comment would be "Jack/Open", but maybe Jill is meeting Adam at the ball, so she would reply to the Entrance Hall thread with "Jill/Adam" in the subject).

Please wait to reply the ball until all the comment locations are up. Backdating of threads/journals related to the ball is allowed until Tuesday, and posting placeholders is not allowed. If you have any questions, feel free to PM the mod account!

Making a deliberately sad looking gesture, Amos pretended to sniff. "If only the same could be said about me" he mumbled. "Dressing up as a Hollywood heartthrob is the only possible way I could successfully get a pretty girl to dance with me - I had no other choice!"

Amos led her out onto the dance floor as the band went quiet, waiting for the next song to start up.

Ava laughed and shook her head, but she did notice he called her pretty, which also brought a surprising warm rush of blood to her cheeks. Thankfully due to the lighting she was fairly certain it wouldn't be visible. At least, that was what she was going to tell herself.

She followed him out onto the dance floor, still smiling a bit. "You say that now, but I'm pretty sure with or without the stache you wouldn't be by yourself for long."

"Oh, I don't know" he said, silently thanking the band leader as a fast song struck up - because he felt he was a bit rubbish at slow dancing - and the crowd started to move in time to the pacy beat.

Taking Ava's hand, he lifted it into the air and spun her around. "I'm rather selective when it comes to female company. I don't want to dance with just anyone, you know."

Ava was glad for the faster paced song too. She felt more at ease, though she wouldn't have turned down a slow dance had that been the next song choice. She had to laugh a little as he spun her around. She managed to go through the motions fluidly, which surprised her a bit.

"Really? I feel pretty important, then," she said as she came to face him, and started to dance with the beat. "So I'm not just anyone, Diggory?" She gave him a bit of an impish smile. She knew they were friends; they'd known each other for years, but playing with him and flirting a bit was also part of the norm for Ava.

"Of course not" he said, "you certainly stand out amongst this crowd".

As the music came to a finish, he jokingly dipped her low before lifting her up again.

"Oh really? I'll take that as a compliment," she said, grinning again. "You don't look too shabby yourself. You're the first person I saw when I walked out here."

Ava gasped in surprise when he dipped her, but was laughing as he raised her back up. "You've got some hidden moves, I see. Well played, Diggory."

"And I shall take that as a compliment" Amos grinned, twiddling his moustache again. He knew it looked silly, but that was sort of the point. It was all rather good fun, anyway.

He chuckled at the surprised look on her face, shimmying her out of the way of some suspiciously merry looking third years before giving her another twirl. "Always the tone of surprise, Lovestorm... how you wound me."

The truth was, she was definitely impressed and pleasantly surprised. Amos had always been around, always been somene she could have fun with, even if he challenged her in a lot of ways. But she liked dancing with him. More than she thought she would.

Ava laughed again and followed his lead with surprising ease. "I never mean to wound, but only to keep you humble," she teased as she twirled around again. "Can't have you running around with an inflated ego now, can I?"

As the song came to a stop and a slower one started up, Amos was thinking much along the same lines. Ava was one of those girls who a bloke could have a laugh with, but still acted like... well, an actual girl. He rather liked that.

Still, in response to her question, he slid his arms around her waist (though without getting too close - he was a gentleman after all) to continue with the dancing and pouted at her. "Ego? Me?" he said, doing his best not to laugh.

The look on his face when he was trying not to laugh was.. well, rather endearing to say the least. Ava found herself having a difficult time not smiling. She just hoped she didn't look foolish, grinning like she was.

As the song shifted to a slower one, Ava found herself moving a bit closer to him and the warmth and weight of his arms around her waist. She placed her hands on his shoulders and was thankful for the dim lights that would conceal the slight pinkish tint of her cheeks. "Perhaps it's too much of a job for just me alone."
