Characters: Sirius Black & Severus Snape
Setting: Entrance Hall, night of Sunday, 17 October
Content: SFW, might end up pushing it on language
Summary: Sirius tells Snape rather more than he should have and doesn't realise why this is bad.

Sirius Black was a pretty dangerous man at the best of times. He was unfailingly reckless, he never paused to think before he acted, and perhaps worst of all, he held his enemies in so low a regard, he essentially considered them subhuman. All that said, this was not the best of times. Sirius knew that his best mate was in a bad way, what with losing the Quidditch match for which he was sub-Captain and his girlfriend in the same week. Sirius also couldn't help but shoulder some of the blame for the former loss and all of it for the latter, which only strengthened his already-powerful desire to cheer James up. He was searching around for something big, some prank or trick or other kind of plan that would bring his best friend back to his former glory. He knew that the Marauders would be capable of anything they put their minds to; the trick was in figuring out what to do this time.

It was in this searching mindset that Sirius strolled through the mostly-empty Entrance Hall, hoping he'd see something that might set off a spark of creativity. If nothing else, there was always the moon that night, and a good romp through the forest would cheer them all up (except maybe Remus), but Sirius wanted something bigger. Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, maybe twenty feet away, appeared Sirius' favourite target: Severus Snape. A cruel smile spread on Sirius' face. Just what he needed to spark some ideas, a bit of old fashioned picking on Snivellus, just like the good old days. "Skulking alone, Snivelly? Rookwood and Lestrange decide they were sick of grease?" Sirius called out.

Severus quirked an eyebrow at Sirius' comment and stole a glance out a window across the hall, not daring to turn his back. "What happens at sundown, big date with Potter? Oh I bet he's proposing, congratulations are in order," Severus was sure to let his words drip with sarcasm and pure hatred.

Severus thought about bolting for the door but knew he'd be struck with a blow from Black before he took three steps. It looks like they were at a stand off, wands pointed at each other.

Suddenly, with Snape's question about what happens at sundown, Sirius got an idea. A fairly brilliant idea, as far as he was concerned. If he suggested that Snape head down to the Willow, he figured Snape probably would, hoping to catch the Marauders in some kind of illegal activity. Of course, he'd be met with a full-grown werewolf instead! Everyone would be in their animal forms, so Snape wouldn't be able to trace it back to the Marauders--not with any proof, anyway. Sirius was confident that Padfoot could keep Moony in line, and as soon as Snape caught a glimpse of what was waiting for him, well, he'd be running off to the Castle, screaming like a girl. To Sirius, it seemed like a foolproof plan.

Though he didn't drop his guard completely (he wasn't that stupid), Sirius lowered his wand and took a couple of steps closer to Snape. In a lowered voice, just to ensure he wasn't overheard, Sirius spoke. "You really want to know what we're up to, Snivelly?" His smug smirk widened even more as he continued. "Come down to the Whomping Willow a bit after sunset. If you poke the big knot on the trunk with a long branch or summat, it'll freeze the branches, and there's a tunnel under there. Follow it and see where it takes you."

With that, Sirius let out a rather barklike laugh and turned on his heel, then headed off towards his dormitory, to stash his things and wait for the time to go down to the Willow himself. Tonight, they were going to be rid of Snape once and for all. He'd be too frightened to give them any shit after this. Sirius was also eager for James' reaction to Snivellus running for his life, screaming like a bloody bird. It was just the plan he'd been hoping for.

Severus was very leery when Black lowered his wand and stepped closer, so he raised his wand so it was pointed directly at the other boy's throat. When Black spoke, Severus narrowed his eyes and suppressed the urge to just haul off and strike a blow to the side of his head to wipe the smirk off. Severus hung on every word, curious as to why int he world there was a tunnel under the Whomping Willow.

Severus startled as the Entrance Hall echoed with the sound of Black's sudden burst of laughter and his hand shook with the urge to hex the git in the back of the head as he walked away, but pocketing his wand instead.

This is either going to end badly for me, or I could catch them in something big. It's got to be something that could get them expelled if it involves sneaking through a secret tunnel off grounds. I'll just have to keep my wand ready.

With his mind made up, Severus made his way out onto the grounds for a quick stroll before he found a good spot to hide and wait for the Potter lot to sneak out of the castle.
