Summary: It's a party

She had to work that morning, but was finished by 3. In her rush to go over final details, such as making sure they had enough cups, plates, snacks, drinks, conversation nooks and music, she apparated home rather than walking. Cups stacked next to bottles and mixers with floating drink recipes in the kitchen to reduce spillage. On the coffee table, which was one her mother gave them she filled with plates of small snacks. Once everything was ready Brigid quickly changed into one shoulder purple dress with a pair of very high black heels. Now all they needed were the guests.

Justin wiped his face in frustration but kept his back turned to Abbott as she tended to the small creature. She walked to the counter and he grabbed the kit gently to put it back where it belonged. "I'll get some from the fridge in the back." He said, nodding towards the kitchen. He disappeared to the beck and sighed as he opened the fridge.

He took out a carton of cream and closed the door, allowing his forehead to hit the door as he leaned forward, making a small thud sound. "Damn.." he whispered before shaking his head. He made his way back and opened poured some cream into the same bowl as before. "Are you really going to spend the rest of your life contradicting everything I say, Abbott?" he asked her, frowning. It was one thing that she had decided that she didn't want to be his friend anymore, as long as Wayne was in his life, but she was getting ridiculous by assuming he'd change into an arsehole because of Wayne.

As soon as he disappeared into the back, she returned to the table. "Hey there, beauty." Abbie was careful to only gently pat the spots that were uninjured. However, it still flinched slightly whenever she touched it. How could anyone do this something like this? How could a child?

When he returned with the creamer she was about to thank him again, but his aggressive verbal attack caught her off guard. "What are you talking about?" she asked, confused. "I was just thanking you because Merlin forbid someone waltz in here and realize what I was doing and think this place is unsanitary. It just takes one false rumor spreading around to ruin a business. I was just looking out for yo-you know, my Godmother."

Frowning she watched the kneazle, happy to see her feeding. "And you're not always right."

Justin rolled his eyes and shook his head. "Yeah, right." he said, scoffing as turned around again to grab some sticky buns and place them in the display. "It happened before, the whole pet rescue and you've brought them here before and you've never served me the 'I know it's a big deal'." He said with his best 'don't try to make me look like the bad guy here'.

His cheeks turned pink as he grew angry. "And you KNOW it's not about being right." he added, frowning as he grabbed the fresh red velvet cupcakes with a nice buttery frosting. "But everything I say lately is never good enough for you."

"That was before you replaced me with your baking boy toy!" she snapped at him as her head whipped around to look at him. It wasn't want she wanted to say, but since school end she's suffered from diarrhea of the mouth.

"Of course it's about being right. You know everything and I know nothing," she said. "When I told you nothing bad will happen if you honest with yourself and who you are, you said I was wrong, but what happened when you kissed Wayne at the dance? Huh? Nothing! No one jeered or throw stuff at you or made you feel like you were less than dirt.

"And when Al invited to the Quidditch match, instead of telling me to have fun, you said it was a date, which it wasn't by the way, and made me feel like a complete clueless idiot for not seeing the signs."

Feeling tears prickle her eyes, she turned away so he couldn't see them.

Justin turned and glared at her angrily. "I did not replace you with Wayne. He's been my friend for a long time, you are just pissed because it became something else!" he snapped though he did so softly. His mother would skin him alive if he was to yell in the bakery.

"And it's again, not even about being right or not whether I wanted to come out or not. Because even if youdidn't care, you are not in people's heads, Abbott and you don't know how they are going to react. I didn't know either and that's why I was scared. And whether Wayne was ready to come out or not was none of your business in the first place, so being mad at him for not wanting to be beaten up." Justin tried to keep his voice down but he knew that at some point he'd blow up.

"And for someone who apparently knew me so much, it is surprising how little you do know me in fact." Justin wasn't really holding it in anymore. They weren't even friends at this point (her choice not his) so he saw no reason not to tell her exactly what it was. "I was teasing you but before I even got the chance to tell you I was happy for you, you started going on and on until you decided that things were changing and that you didn't like it, not to mention that you yelled for no good reason at Wayne who was just really fucking happy about his first batch of cupcakes!" It was stupid, he knew that. He should just turn away and leave her be with her pets, wondering briefly how she'd manage without him to look after Bullet this year.

"I didn't say it was a date. I said it looked like it was, you just went ahead and assumed everything else, including how I feel about you, Wayne, the rest of my friends and whole life in general. But yes, I do have a bunch of friends who didn't threw a tantrum at the idea of me having a boyfriend. And none of my friend looked at me right in the eye and told me to 'have fun with my new friend' while walking away from me." He turned around and grabbed a bunch of banana muffins and placed them on the display one by one.

"I can manage friends, relationship and studies, no matter what you think." he added almost throwing the pan back through the hole in the wall. "I always made time for you. I always, always watched you play and I have always been there with my kit to heal you so your Dad wouldn't know. I've always been able to keep an eye on the extra pet you bring at school and I've always been there to study with you before exams." He was tired of fighting with Abbott, really.

"But it feels like it!" she said. "And I don't give a flying rat's arse if things changed between you two. I care about the fact you'd rather spend more time with him than me." While she was always invited over to the bakery, she couldn't remember ever being invited for a full summer. Not that she was interested in baking, the gesture would have been nice.

"You're right; I'm not in people's heads, but I stood by you the whole time and encouraged you to stand up for yourself and prepared myself to help you in anyway possible, which included cursing anyone who thought you were less than great bloke you are," she said. "I know, you can fight your own battles, but I always thought best friends were suppose to fight along side one another, not stand on the sidelines."

"And what is so wrong with not wanting things to change? I was happy! And I thought your were happy too! Forgive me for not wanting to lose that!" she ended up shouting. "And I'm sorry I yelled at Wayne about his stupid cupcakes, but you just told me you guys were sharing a room together and I didn't know what do to about it."

This time she couldn't hold it back; everything that made her so happy was crumbling around her. "I don't care that you have a boyfriend. In fact, I told a dozen times that I was happy that you found someone who made you happy," she said, the tears falling down her face. Abbie always though crying was for the weak girls and she wasn't one. Yet, there she was, crying. "And the reason I left was because you know how I feel about crying in public!"

She struggle to catch her breath for a second. "What do you want me to say? I'm sorry? Well, I am. I'm sorry that I was happy with the way things were. I'm sorry I can't stop you from changing or growing up. I'm sorry you don't want to be friends with me anymore. I'm sorry I forced you to choose between me and all your other friends or asking you heal me or watch over my pets. I'm sorry if it sounds like I made your life miserable."

Justin tried not to let the tears get to him, because honestly, Abbott never cried. He forced himself to calm down and tilted his head to the side, watching her. He decided that yelling some more wasn't the way to do things and that she might just shut down completely. "You are contradicting yourself, Abbott." he said calmly. "You say you were happy for us and that you don't care if I have a boyfriend. But on the other hand you.." he turned around and yelled 'what!?' as a bell chimed for the third time and he grabbed the vanilla cupcakes Wayne handed him through the receiving hole in the wall.

"You were happy when we did everything together, always. But yeah, things change and guess what, I can't divide my heart as people waltz into my life. It can only expand." he said as he placed the cupcakes. "I tried to tell you many, many times that there is enough space for you and Wayne both in here," he patted his heart," and in my schedule. You just went ahead and assumed I couldn't do both." he grabbed the cloth and started wiping the counter. "You didn't force me to choose between you and my other friends, you made the choice for me." he reminded her, frowning as he cleaned here and there, more because he didn't want to have to look at her right now.

In the end he slapped the counter and glared at her. "You are doing it again!" he said, groaning as she went on about being sorry she had forced him to be there for her. "You assume that I was miserable. You assume that I prefer to spend time with Wayne or any other friends than you. You just fucking assume everything because you know me so fucking well, Abbott you are bloody infuriating! Haven't you heard anything I have said AT ALL?" he snapped, crossing his arms over his chest. "Nothing changed between you and me. Nothing changed until you decided that I was better off without you. If I had been truly miserable about watching you play, I wouldn't have done it ever. I don't like Quidditch, but I like that you are doing something that makes you really, truly happy like that. I've got my healing books, you've got Quidditch, simple, right?" he said, getting a box and placing some sticky buns in it.

"Nothing changed, Abs. I was studying Potions with Wayne way before last year and I will keep doing so because we are both good at it. I attend Care for Magical Creatures so we can share something, and will keep doing so. Nothing changed, only your perception of it." He closed the box and marked an address on it then grabbed and other box, getting cupcakes in it.

"We all are growing up, Abbie. This is our last year, then I'm off to University. I have no idea who else will be following or going Pro, or just going straight to work somewhere. That's how things are, we are not twelve anymore." He closed the next box and wrote a little note to stick with it.

This is getting us no where, she thought. She didn't know what to do to make things better, every time she opened her mouth she just made things worse. Still sniffling, she said, "I'm sorry for how I feel, Justin. I'm sorry if it feels like I'm losing you because whether it's true or not, I'm going to wonder if you are just spending time with me as a way to distract you from not being able to spend time with him."

Her hands rubbed behind the kneakle's ear as if finished up the last of the cream. "Oh and you're not contradicting yourself too? Things can't be the same and change all at once," she said, hating that he kept calling her Abbott. "Either we're growing up and things or changing or they're not. I know we're not 12 anymore, but I really wish we were because we never fought like this. And things easier and I truly believed we'd always be best friends, but now I don't know anything."

She picked up the bowl and the kneazle. After setting the bowl it on the counter, she pulled out a few coins to pay for it. "You're right. I don't know you as well as I thought. Maybe I never did and I am sorry I'm screw up as a friend."

Justin grabbed the box of sticky buns and pushed it towards Abbie, knowing he had put her favorite in there. "I think I get it." he said with a small smile on his lips. "You think I'm not really with you when I am, right?" he asked her softly, not amused about this, but still glad he had finally caught it. "I'm a bloke, I'm a bit dense about that sort of stuff, you know." Sometimes, you had to spell things out for him, such as this.

He grabbed the next pan and noticed it wasn't Wayne who was handling the 'deliveries' anymore. He swallowed and brought the cookies to the display. With a spatula he put them in then looked at Abbie. "You really think I would do that to you?" he asked softly, tilting his head. "I spend time with you because I like it. The teasing, the punches," he gave her a smirk, showing her that he was kidding. "I like it when you do that, you rescue pets and I help you out with the potions and I just stand there while you heal the poor thing. Why would I want that to change?" he said, shrugging.

Such relief washed over her that when she let the sigh out, Abbie's words got caught up in it and everything came out in a rush. "I don't want to feel like it, but I just can't help it. Neither one of us ever had anyone before and all the Hufflepuffs are all about their boyfriends and blowing friends off for them and I know you'd never do that; you're too nice, but the thought just got stuck up in my head and wouldn't go away."

She gave him a half smile in response. "And you're not the only one who is dense. I am too. Bloody hell, I can't even tell when some bloke is asking me out on a date without clarification," she scoffed. "He did ask me for a date. Actually, I'm suppose to meet him here soon, but I'm a bloody mess. Literally."

Lifting the kneazle away from her chest, she showed off the blood stained Weird Sister's t-shirt which she paired with a denim skirt that hit her at the knees and her Chucks. Speaking of tense... "Are we done fighting? Because I don't want to be fighting. I've really really missed you. More than I've missed playing Quidditch or eating your mum's sticky buns."

Justin walked over to the other side of the counter and hugged Abbie as best as he could considering that she was still holding the cute thing in her hands. "I can either clean your shirt upstairs, or you could use the Floo to get a new shirt from your house, it's fixed now." he said with a nod. "Unless you want to stroll around in one of my shirts but it might send the wrong message to Al. My shirts smell a bit like me." he said chuckling.

Reaching out he stroke the Kneazle's head. "I can watch after it tonight while you are out on your date." he said with a huge grin, nudging her gently so she knew he was teasing her for real.

"We're done fighting. And the box is all for you." he said nodding towards the box of buns.

She gave him a one armed hug in return, feeling a hundred times better than she had all summer. While she loved the t-shirt, she still worried she wasn't dressed up enough for an actual date. "I have a few extras at the Leaky," Abbie said.

Smiling, she shook her head. "No, thank you. I'll take her to the Leaky with me, so she can sleep in the room I'm using. You," she said, poking him. "Should be enjoying your last weekend before school too."

Abbie gave him another hug the best she could. "I'll be right back."
