Tea with a friend

Summary: Susan and Hannah meet up for tea. Eventually the issue of Justin and Abbie not talking

Susan sat down and smiled at the young woman who had seated her. She asked for a whole pot of tea and scones with two cups, smiling at the woman before she left. She looked through the window and grinned at her friend as she walked towards the teashop. It was one of those things she actually liked about Diagon Alley, you could get anything you needed from there.

Since she wanted to have a private chat with Hannah without Justin around, or any employee for that matter, she had asked Hannah to join her at the teashop instead. A nice quiet environment was what she needed. Things between Abbott and Justin had come to a Halt and so did things between Justin and Wayne. Well not totally to a halt, but things seemed more tense. Justin himself was tense and defensive lately.

She felt rushed. Hannah often felt rushed and she often was because she was notorious for being late to everything. Even her wedding ceremony was 15 minutes behind schedule. Still, she tried her best to leave on time and with the tea shoppe just down the street, she hoped Susan hadn't been waiting for long.

In her typical hurried fashion, she bustled into the shoppe, heading straight for her friend. "I'm horrible with time. You haven't been waiting long, have you?" she asked in a greeting while giving her friend a hug and kiss on the cheek. After taking the empty seat at the table, Hannah let out a sigh. "So, how are you? How's business?"

Susan had always known Hannah to be slightly late, which is why she had ordered straight away, so that when her friend showed up the pot of tea and the scones were arriving at the same time. "I've been here just long enough to order and take the time to breathe. I am enjoying the last of my vacations before Justin goes back to school." And with Justin leaving, so would Wayne. The bloke had proved to be a fast learner and very motivated in doing his job right.

"I might have to hire someone to replace Wayne, I had no idea I'd actually like slowing down." Susan gave a laugh and poured some tea into her friend's cup. It smell delightful and the scones were almost as distracting.

"How's it going at the Leaky? Still busy as all hell?" she teased Hannah, winking at her.

Hannah would give her left arm to be able to handle something a simple as arriving on time. Still, she was grateful that Susan was the type who could plan ahead and make sure everything was in place before she got there. "I know. Can you believe it will be their last year? And Chuck isn't too far behind. I'm going to have three kids in University soon. I'm not old enough to have one kid in University let alone three!"

Chuckling at her own joke, she took the cup Susan filled. "You'll have to tell me what it is like," she teased. Hannah was a workaholic, particularly when the rest of her family was at Hogwarts. Working made missing them hurt a little less.

"When aren't things crazy as hell?" she teased back. "Things are going well. The place didn't burn to the ground while we were on vacation, so I consider that a success."

"Sometimes I can't believe my Justin is almost out of Hogwarts myself." Susan answered with a sigh. Her son was going to be studying to be a Healer and it made her proud of him. "Not too long ago I was wondering if maybe I should try to have a second one, but in the end I think I'm just glad I only have him. Not that he's a lot of trouble, not at all.. you know, things just got strange for a while around the house, not to mention that I now have a second young man under my roof." Wayne was sweet and very helpful and she guessed it was due to his upbringing. He probably just didn't want to be a bother for her.

"I would be working until I collapse if it weren't that Justin is kicking me out of the Bakery once in a while. I swear that boy grew up so fast, he can totally manage the Bakery without me. And Wayne is such a fast learner, Justin doesn't need to bake anymore, so he manages the front like a pro." It did help that Justin was a very sociable kid.

"All you need is a good manager. Charlie keeps telling me I should expand and start a franchise is Hogsmeade, I'm not too sure about that yet." She put some sugar in her tea and grabbed a scone, tilting her head to the side.

She couldn't imagine how Susan managed with one child and worked full time all by herself. She had Neville and the staff at the Leaky never minded a baby sitting shift when Hannah absolutely had to be in at work. "Things got strange? What do you mean?"

She chuckled. "If my children weren't so busy with their own lives, I'd probably be kicked out of the Leaky every know and then as well." Still, Hannah was happy to hear that things were doing so well that her friend was able to take some much deserved time off.

"I had one, but he left me to start up his own place," she said, remembering Nigel who managed the Leaky when the kids were really little. He had his own place right outside York now. After taking a sip of her tea, Hannah nodded. "You should expand! You'd make a killing in Hogsmeade."

Susan smirked and sipped at her tea to let the suspense linger. It added a dramatic effect to the whole conversation. "Well, they are growing up and Justin is not all that different from people his age. He's seeing someone now. Made a huge deal of trying to hide it from me, but I'm his mother after all." she said with a small laugh. Surely her son wouldn't mind if she talked about him with Hannah. She was his Godmother after all.

"Well, if I expand, Charlie is ready to take on more responsabilities since I'll be starting the other bakery. I've got an established clientele already so it shouldn't be too hard." The more she thought about it, the more the idea was appealing.

Hannah had to admire Susan; she didn't even want to think about her children having sex, even though she was fairly certain they were; most kids that age were sexual active. As she took another sip of tea, it dawned on her. How could I have been so blind? "How long has Justin been seeing his young man?"

She wouldn't lie and say she wasn't secretly disappointed to learn that Abbott wasn't Justin's type; Hannah would have loved to have had Susan for an In-Law. "Do it, Susan. A Hogsmeade location would be brilliant," she encouraged. "Trust me, if Madam Rosmerta ever decided to sell, I'd snatch that place up faster than you can say the 3Bs."

Susan had to admit that she didn't know the details of his relationship with Wayne. After all, there were a number of things her son was allowed to keep private. "I'm not sure exactly how long they've been seeing each other like that. Justin told me they were mates before, which is why he invited him over for the summer vacations." She poured herself some more tea and sighed. "He came home with Wayne and they tried to be subtle about it." she laughed and shook her head. "He is a true Hufflepuff. Unable to be subtle."

"You know, sometimes I did wonder if it was my fault. Maybe I should have worked harder at having a father figure for him." Susan frowned slightly. Even if she knew it wasn't about the environment, one could always wonder. "I know it might not have changed anything, but maybe he waited all that time to tell me because he thought I.. I don't know. Sometimes I think I should have told.." Hannah was pretty much the only person on Earth to know who Justin's father really was and it made her heart sink to think that maybe her son had suffered from her decision.

"Maybe you should make a move and ask her, you know. But I'm thinking maybe she's keeping the place for Brigid.." she added.

I am a complete and utter idiot, she thought as she listened to Susan talk. Her daughter's unusual behavior was suddenly making clear sense.

"First off, it is no way your fault that the strongest male figure in Justin's life is Abbie," Hannah teased, knowing that it would be far less shocking to find out she was gay than one of her two sons. "Secondly, your son is perfect just the way he is and knowing his father wouldn't change who he is deep down. Besides, I believe he's old enough to decide for himself if he wants to know ro not and it seems like it's not that important to him."

She could understand the older witch wanting to pass on her legacy to her daughter; Hannah too had thought about passing the pub on to one of her kids if they ever showed interest. Still, she was in no rush. "Well, if I did buy the Three Broomsticks, I suppose Neville and I would have to have frequent sleep overs."

Chuckling as she wiggled her eyebrows, she picked up a scone and as a true Hufflepuff she was unable to subtly bring the subject back to their children. "Abbie's been moody all summer. She didn't beat up Chuck when he ate all the sticky buns last week. She says Justin's busy."

Susan waved her hand and sat back. "I know there is nothing wrong with him but I can't stop thinking about it even though now it's pretty much too late to reach out for him and explain why he has a son." She didn't think Kevin would like it very much. "Justin is not curious one bit about who his father is and I think it has everything to do with Neville, you know. Justin was always so happy to be invited over for a gardening day." Susan herself was no gardener and had no space for plants so Justin got to spend a lot of time with Neville.

"Justin's busy, sure. He's busy being miserable. He didn't tell me much though." She sighed and sipped her tea, trying to be calm and relaxed. "But Charlie told me he saw her storm off at the beginning of the summer and she hadn't come back yet. You think there is a relation to why Justin keeps writing and throwing the letters away?" She asked with a quirked brow and a smirk.

Hannah couldn't help but beam at her friend's compliment about her husband. "He really is a catch, isn't he?" she teased. "Besides, Neville loved having him around. Between Justin and Abbie, he was able to nurture more plants and I know he'll need help on Monday. He has some seedlings that need re-potting for transportation back to Hogwarts."

Upon hearing that Justin was equally as miserable as her daughter, she frowned deeply. "They've never fought like this before. You don't suppose, given the time frame, Justin's new boyfriend has anything to do with it?"

Susan settled her cup on the tabled and frowned. "I don't know." she said with a sigh. "Wayne is very sweet and eager to learn. Very helpful at home too." She grabbed an other scone and bit in it. "They are both very careful not to show too much PDA when they are around people. Justin understands that not everyone is as accepting as us, you know." She had to admire her son though for his strength during all this.

	Hannah didn't know what to think then; Abbie loved Justin more than anything and his sexuality wouldn't have changed that. With a frown still on her face, she sipped the last of her cup of tea. "I don't know, Susan. I don't think a little PDA is the issue," she finally said. "I wonder if it's third wheel syndrome." (Reply to this) (Parent)
