WHO: Caradoc Dearborn and Julia Macnair
WHAT: Caradoc wasn't entirely forthcoming
WHERE: Julia's house
WHEN: Monday night
WHY: Caradoc wasn't entirely forthcoming

Caradoc was at Julia's house in minutes, pounding on her door. He'd hoped he could put off this conversation a lot longer, but he wasn't sure he had much of a choice at this point. He'd been careless to mention his vanishing to Emmeline. Julia didn't know many people there yet; of course she'd be reading her journal.

He didn't want to stay at her doorstep long; he was unused to showing up at her front door and still felt quite nervous about it. They still couldn't risk being caught.

This sounded bad. Julia sat herself on the sofa, assuming that she would need to hear this sitting down, biting on her fingernails. She held her breath, "Just tell me. I want to know everything."

Caradoc took a deep breath and slowed his pacing, but he did not stop and he did not sit. "It's probably just as well you heard about me vanishing first though, really," he said, trailing off a bit. "Otherwise you would've heard about how you died in an accident in December, 1979. Except, you didn't."

"I... what? You vanish and I..." what the hell did he mean that she died in an accident but didn't. What the hell! "Sorry, can you just out with the whole thing? Just tell me Caradoc!" She raked a hand through her hair as her frustration and confusion mounted.

Caradoc stopped pacing then, stood in front of her and looked her in the eye. He looked at her sympathetically, then finally continued. "We had to get away from him. From Walden, and from the rest. We faked your death and then a few weeks later I vanished. We had to get away, see, because you were pregnant."

Julia looked at Caradoc in the eye, completely at a loss for words. She sat, frozen still as a wave of emotions crashed into her. Her eyes were already welling up. She wasn't sure if it was because she was sad, or if she was scared, or just plain overwhelmed, but finding this out felt a little bit like a punch in the gut.

Caradoc dropped his eyes, unable to meet hers any longer. He let the silence linger; he didn't want to be the one who spoke next. If she wanted to scream at him or cry or shut him out, it was fine, he realized, but he wanted her to be the one to do anything.

As Caradoc dropped his gaze, she pulled her knees up on the couch, hugging them to her body. She didn't say anything for awhile, not sure of how to react. At least they weren't dead, a voice said inside her, but still everyone in her life thought that she was. Except Caradoc and... their child. When her thoughts touched upon their child, her chest ached. She felt scared shitless, mostly, but a part of her wanted to know what their child was like.

"Our..." her voice crackled, "our baby--" it was all she could muster, before she dissolved into overwhelmed tears.

Caradoc kneeled down in front of her, taking her hands in his. "Our daughter, Julia. We named her Tory. And she's beautiful," he said softly, feeling his own tears and anger building up. He'd only known his daughter a few days before he'd been dragged there; he was robbed and it wasn't fair. His pain had subsided in the last month and a half, but it was coming back with a vengence.

Julia sniffed and sobbed. She couldn't really explain what she was feeling, except that hearing her daughter's name hurt. She tightened her grip on Caradoc's hands that were holding hers, before collapsing into him.

Caradoc braced himself as he felt her fall into him, then wrapped his arms around her and held her close. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you," Caradoc lied in a whisper. If it had been up to him, he would have kept this secret longer; he might have kept it forever. If he'd heard this two years earlier he would've been shocked, too.

She buried herself into the space between his neck and shoulder and held onto him until her sobs died down. When her breathing began to even out, she said in a whisper, "Tory."

She bit her bottom lip, and looked up at Caradoc's face, wiping her face with back of her hand. "So Walden never found out about any of this?"

Now, it was Caradoc who needed to sit. He didn't quite let go of her, but moved so he could be next to her. He, again, didn't meet her eye. "I don't know," he admitted hollowly. "I mean, not as far as I ... she was only a few days old when..." He trailed off, again at a loss for words.

"She was only a few days old when I wound up here," he said finally. "I tried to find out if I ever 'unvanished' but I can't find anything. I don't know what happened."

Julia breathed out a sigh. "Skeeter's such a bint," she said, still leaning against him, fiddling distractedly with the hem of Caradoc's shirt, the scared-shitless feeling not subsiding one bit. "What do we do now?"

Caradoc sighed. The question weighed on him heavily. "I don't know," he said at last. After another moment, he added, "But if I ever call you Abby by mistake, it's not because of another woman. I promise. That's the name you changed to."

A ghost of a smile tugged at the corner of Julia's lips at Caradoc's words. "Abby?" she squinched her nose, not sure if she liked it or not. "What did you change yours to?"

"Michael," Caradoc said, leaning backwards to rest against the back of the sofa, his head on the wall behind. "Like my dad. Merlin knows why," he added with a small grimace. "Oh, and we're the Walkers there. Nice neighbours, too."

Caradoc cocked his head to the side, knowing this part might also be a surprise. Nothing like the earlier ones though, of course. "Sydney. Australia."

Sydney was far. Julia sighed. "And I suppose it's safe to assume that we're living as Muggles..."

Caradoc scoffed. "Hell no," he insisted, almost appalled at the idea. "'s why we went so far away, Abigail. We had to at least keep something normal and the same. Besides, would you want to raise our daughter without magic? No."

The idea of raising a daughter, let alone with Caradoc was still very new, strange, and scary to Julia, but the irony that they were living as a married couple in Australia didn't escape her. "So we're Mr. and Mrs. Walker."

Caradoc nodded. "Yeah. That's us. Awfully more conventional than I ever thought we'd end up," he admitted, giving a small smile.

She glanced up at him and for no real reason, pecked a kiss on his cheek.

"What does she look like? Tory," Julia asked after a pause, curiosity about their daughter growing.

"She's...tiny," Caradoc said, softening at the memory. He smiled and he was no longer looking at Julia, at the room around them. He was remembering the hospital. "She's got this little tuft of hair, and these big blue eyes." He spoke fondly; he'd not been able to talk about his daughter to anyone since he'd been there and he missed the bragging.

"Well, look at you," Julia said affectionately, she patted his cheek, his smile rubbing off on her.
