Cedric smiled, knowing that wasn’t what Zacharias meant as they got to the edge of the water and helping the other man put out the red and white picnic blanket out for them to sit on. “I think we’re safe with sandwich stuffs,” he said, taking his shoes off and leaving the clean white socks on. He began to speak again, giving Zacharias what he’d asked for before. He sat down and crossed his legs Indian style, palms resting behind him as the shade of the foliage created a gray leaf pattern over his handsome figure.
“I came to Lockewood and you were the person who made it safe, who made sure I wasn’t all alone. I started to be scared of how I felt about you, and then that blasted… sprig changed everything for us. But I ran away, like a coward. So you had to chase after me, and then on Christmas, everything got better. I decided I didn’t need to be scared of anything that had to do with you,” Cedric said, waiting to see Zach smile again.
