could we just be friends?
I feel a weakness coming on...
It's not meant to be like this,
He was getting used to the food that Lovegood brought home from work for their dinners and, really, Draco wasn't in much the habit of eating unless food was brought to him. He didn't know how to cook, he'd cut his finger trying to open a can of soup, he was not--he was not cut out for the difficulties that were taking care of himself.
Occlumency lessons, combined with Severus Snape's need for a friend (not that he would ever admit that that was what it was) had kept thoughts of Albus Severus Potter at the back of Draco's mind. He'd meant to think about it more, meant to come up with something to say to the man when he saw him next but--
But Merlin the way he'd taken that olive off that toothpick.
No.
There was no way that he could afford to look at Albus Severus romantically. He knew he lacked common sense, but this was something else. He knew that. Al looked like Harry Potter, he sounded like Harry and it wasn't--it wasn't supposed to be like this. He knew that he probably shouldn't even be going to his cottage. He should have made it perfectly clear in the journals that, though he could offer friendship but nothing else. Maybe he could even convince him he wasn't even that into blokes.
Right. No one believed that about Lucius either.
He had a speech. He'd practiced it under his breath as he'd walked over.
Albus, I really appreciate the invitation but I'm a bit concerned that you got the wrong idea the other night in the pub. I think you're very smart, and interesting and I'd love for us to be friends but I don't think It would be a good idea to--
Now, that was where he got a bit stuck. Why wasn't it a good idea? He couldn't very well tell the man that he had feelings for his father. No man needed to be met with those words ever in their life.
at the present time, I'm somewhat enamored with someone else and I think it would be a good idea to--I don't know what you're looking for, but I don't think.
I don't think
Don't think, Draco, just don't think.
And the second that Albus Severus opened the cottage door and stood there greeting his former Professor with a very inviting smile, Draco found that 'not thinking' was exactly what he did. His well-rehearsed lines lay as forgotten in the snow as the half-finished cigarette he'd smoked on his way over.
