Pete still wasn’t completely convinced that this wasn’t Hell or Disney World. In his mind, those were the two likeliest conclusions. Confirmation of either of those options would’ve driven him to lunacy, if he hadn’t received a message from Kitty on his network post. Her lack of enthusiasm was noted, but subsequently shrugged off and forgotten. How well could one convey tone through the Internet, anyway? He was, however, expecting a warm welcome when he saw her in person. As her boyfriend, he felt he had every right to do so, yes. It was true that he bought mouthwash before seeing her and he did make use of it… but Pete didn’t have the strength to make it all the way to her house without smoking a cigarette. It was a downright depressing spectacle; birds were chirping, the sun was shining and warming his skin just the right amount, so it wasn’t unbearable. The houses were all so perfect and the shrubbery flawlessly trimmed. Pete took a long hard drag from his cigarette and tried his best to walk with purpose and ignore his surroundings. After what seemed like an eternity, he eventually reached Teverton Way. Honestly, it looked just like all other streets he’d walked through. He made his way over to the front door of House thirty-five and rang the doorbell. The moment Kitty opened the door, his whole face lit up. She looked a little… tired, but just as beautiful as ever. “So, I did use mouthwash but I needed a little something to help me make it over here, y’know?” Pete offered a small smile and stepped up to her without waiting for an answer. “So sorry, love…” He bent down and kissed Kitty softly on the lips, letting his arms fit around the familiar curve of her waist. He had cigarette breath but he wasn’t going to wait to freshen up to kiss her. Not when he was so glad to see her, or ever, for that matter. Hopefully, she’d make her usual exception. |
