lightning_war post recap: 9-22 August 2008
Game date and time: Monday evening, 14 September 1942:
Announcements:
* Lightning War is currently hosted on Insane Journal. If you are reading this on Live Journal or through an RSS feed, links will work, but clicking on journal names probably won't--or will take you somewhere irrelevant. A lot of our journals on Insane Journal have names we might have liked to have on Live Journal, but someone else had already snagged them.
* If you have friended this community but have not joined it, you are not a member. This means you will miss locked posts. You will be unable to vote in polls. Also, your comments on posts will be screened until a maintainer unscreens them, which makes discussions less lively.
* If you post on this comm--retro-caps, crack, polls, whatever--try to remember to cross-post to the LightningWatch comm on IJ. I've been forgetting too, but we should be more careful.
* Yes, as a matter of fact, we're having a slow period. The High Holy Days aren't far off and school is starting again soon for some of us. Also, there are new things coming down the pike and we are working on those behind the scenes.
Completed/Continuing Open Threads:
Julie Peverell and Davy Longbottom talk to the first through third-year Hogwarts students about the drills and past crises, and are asked questions for which they were not quite prepared. (Closed and complete.)
Tom Riddle's loneliness is eased by schadenfreude, but his attempt to flirt with Arianwen Rosier goes totally sour. (Closed and complete.)
Funny notes in the upperclassmens' toilets. (Probably complete, not yet closed.)
The St Mungo's diagnostic team gathers to discuss Bilius Lovegood with his guardian, Isaac Diggory. (Probably complete, not yet closed.)
Jameson Wilkes and Isaac Diggory discuss Bilius Lovegood's chances of survival. (Closed and complete.)
Galina Lyubova has lots on her mind, and Verity Umbridge is not really helping with that. (Closed and complete.)
Alastor Moody is alarmed at having realised he nearly walked into a trap and is slightly chagrined to admit that Lucius is a better leader than he is. Lucius, however, is feeling the weight of responsibility rather heavily at the moment. (Closed and complete.)
Rainer Pfeifenberger has a better birthday than he feared he might. (Closed and complete.)
New Posts:
Liane Malfoy is feeling out of sorts, and decides to distract Jenny Moody with puzzles, since that's the most useful thing people are willing to permit her to do. (Closed and complete.)
Theodore Abbott isn't looking forward to trying to get any sleep after the evening's drills.
Adelina García is disappointed in the social life available to her after her husband's treachery, even in the home of her sister-in-law.
Isabella Zabini desperately wants her family to come home safe.
Aelia Zabini is also afraid.
Nicodemo Zabini has a lot of things on his mind--especially his brother and Endymion Dashwood.
Lavinia Scalara is under lockdown at the Ministry Building during the lightning rain.
Ianthe Pritchard and Arianwen Rosier discuss personal politics, especially insofar as they pertain to Myrtle Dolloway, Kat Lovegood and Yvon Malfoy.
Yvon Malfoy and Alessio Zabini are stuck outside during the lightning rain. Fortunately, where there is trouble, there are usually Ziteks.
Despite their miscommunications and false starts, Joachim Piccard and Eliot Gardiner perform a successful experiment--which is fortunate, considering the stakes.
Zip Kaplan is irritated with sexual politics.
Valeria Zabini feels her day has been productive and that maybe life at the Manor isn't so bad.
Austin Parkinson is very worried about his aunt Portia and puzzled by his relationship with Liane Malfoy (whom he thinks of as Juliana de Marigny).
Séverine Black Malfoy is anxious to get moving and her thoughts are wandering from the people she's with to the people she hopes to find all over again in Britannia.
Michel Rosenthal is frustrated at not having enough information to do predictive Arithmancy properly when so much is at stake.
New Journals:
my_world_is Ebenezer "Benito" Quirke (Gryffindor 1944) is the younger brother of Caleb Quirke, and hopes no-one holds it against him. He's a star student in Beasts and Entities who is obsessed with magickal flora and fauna, their habitats and their numbers, the weirder and rarer the better. He also loves all the occult sciences, not to mention what he knows of the mundane ones. Benito is always doing new and exciting experiments. Some of them are perhaps more exciting for his roommates than they might have wished. (PB: Daniel Brocklebank)
spicecakequeen Melisande "Melly" Merriweather (Gryffindor 1944), is a notorious party-girl whose parents believe she is innocent, sweet and trustworthy. She is the best friend of Ekaterin Dolohov, and convinced her parents to take Katya in when Katya was disowned--although Katya now lives with Rodrigo Gallinaro and his family. She has a skunk she keeps as a familiar. Her mother was one of the Hornbys. She is an excellent baker. The Mexican chocolate cake? Not to be missed. (PB: Laura Ramsey)
theo_abbott Theodore "Theo" Abbott (Gryffindor 1949), is the middle child and only son of Frank and Hortensia Abbott. Theo is fond of Quidditch and Machiavelli. The Abbotts' house was destroyed in a lightning raid on Theo's eleventh birthday, Lammas Eve. Theo’s best friends are his cousins, Jenny Moody, Bilius Weasley and Kat Lovegood; he is also friendly with Lucius Malfoy and Fiammetta Kyteler. (PB: Jonathan Lipnicki)
vince_rosenthal Vincent "Vince" Rosenthal left the French wizarding government when it became apparent that capitulation to Grindelwald's occupation was inevitable, and that the lifespan of his family was measurable in days under the coming regime. Before that he had been the French equivalent of an Unspeakable; he came to Britannia to work in the war effort. (PB: Rob Morrow)
Here's the list of who's where on Insane Journal.
New Graphics:
Corinne Allison, Eliot Gardiner and Philip Redferne, Jameson Wilkes, Laurens van Rensselaer, Liane Malfoy, Michel Rosenthal, Poppaea Malfoy Rosier, Séverine Black Malfoy and Yvon Malfoy all have new userpics.
Please be patient with us as many of the new journals are not yet set up and do not yet have proper layouts. I'm 2/3 way done with my own and then I'll be able to help other people. Once all the old journals are laid out at all, new layouts will again be noteworthy.
Under New Management:
Benito Quirke and Melly Merriweather are now being written by azurelunatic.
There are a lot of characters that are currently open. Check out the Adoptable Characters page for descriptions of the kinds of adoptions that are open and lists of characters available for each. If you are not sure, ask. :)
