Letter from Marek Červenka to Jenica Popescu, 17 Sept 1942
Strongly warded, using hunters’ wards, in reply to her letter:
Dear Jenica,
It sounds like you have been very busy there. I am glad you are safe after everything that has happened. I know it is your job to help deal with things such as demons but I do worry about you. I do not know what it is you are seeing in the chapel; I have never heard of anything like it. Have you asked the Ziteks? I trust your judgement but one can never be too careful.
I am glad you are making friends, and of course Nadya can come visit. I am sure the Ziteks would have no problem with that.
You are quite right that people who have not been through hard times do not understand people who do. Tell your friend Dashwood that if he is as good as you say there is certain to be work for him here as my apprentice, though you understand I cannot say anything about what he might be working on.
I am glad to hear you are working hard on experiments but do not neglect your other classes. If you need any more books please do let me know.
Best wishes,
Marek Červenka
PS: Tell Zsuzsanna that yes, I am eating regularly, and that I hope she is looking after herself too.
