Securely warded and sealed:

Dear Arianwen,

I hope you are well; we haven't heard anything from Evan (not that we expected to--if he were to write I'd expect there had been some disaster) but the news from Hogwarts is very disturbing, particularly the bits of it that your mother hears from the Blacks when she visits. I hope that you are well and that you are enjoying your studies. I know you were very happy this summer at the hospital, and I know that going back to school must make you feel very let down, particularly given that you don't like your teacher at school nearly as much as you liked the one you had at the hospital.

I could wish you had liked him more; you are going to need someone at your side who understands what you value. I doubt that your Mr Gresham will understand your career ambitions given that he is not only Muggleborn but a Muggle peer whose wife will have to live up to a lot of expectations, and your teacher shared not only your faith but your unconventional method of interpreting it. You ought to take advantage of Alessio Zabini's marriage, you know. Your mother is very annoyed that she wasn't asked to the weddings at the Manor this weekend but of course, given that the fact that she never liked either Ercole or Nicodemo there is no reason Marco or Alessio would want her there, and of course she doesn't know Miss Benedetto or Miss Ducas. I am only sad that you could not be there, because your mother has been so beastly.

Promise me that you will do everything the Inquisitor asks of you, and that you will steer clear of any danger. I know you can't keep Evan out of trouble, he's at the age where he doesn't listen to anyone; but tell him we expect the same of him, and also his young man, and for that matter all of your cousins, Merope and Patty and Mira and Charis and Luce.

All my love,
Mercy

To Theodosius Binns, securely warded, in reply to his owl:

Dear Mr Binns:

I have received your letter and apologise for my late reply given the urgency of the matter. Three o'clock is a perfectly acceptable time for you to call, but as tomorrow is Sunday, there will be a convocation in the Great Hall at eleven o'clock and a memorial service will be read for your father as well as for Miss Jeannot and Miss de Rais. Prayers will also be said for the safety of M. Claudien de Kernoël. If you would care to attend your presence would be very welcome.

In sympathy,
J Wm GOYLE
Hogwarts Inquisitor

To Michaela Binns Pryce, securely warded:

Dear Mrs Pryce:

I apologise for the short notice, but there has been a good degree of chaos here at Hogwarts and it has been difficult to make arrangements even for regular meals. Dippet has now stepped down as Headmaster and Dumbledore is his replacement, at least temporarily.

It has been decided by Professor Dumbledore, Professor Gardiner and Magistra Chattox that as tomorrow is Sunday, there will be a convocation in the Great Hall at eleven o'clock and a memorial service will be read for your father as well as for Miss Jeannot and Miss de Rais. Prayers will also be said for the safety of M. Claudien de Kernoël. If you would care to attend your presence would be very welcome.

In sympathy,
J Wm GOYLE
Hogwarts Inquisitor
