Sweet dreams are made of these
Who: Aetheria and family NPC'd
Where: Ad Gustum/Dreamland
When: Nighttime
Warning: Slightly disturbing
Such a quiet night in the mansion. The blonde air elemental didn't have as many clients as she suspected, thus she was able to curl up in bed and sleep early that night. Kiana was curled up in her cage, sleeping soundly, as was her twin by her side. All was well. They had their family back and nothing was going to tear them apart. With a smile on her face, Aetheria cuddled with her stuffed animal kitten and nuzzled into her pillow, falling fast asleep.
Dreams were common for her, seeing she was a whimsical air elemental and all. Her dreams were always out of the ordinary, usually of fluffy clouds and flying kittens and smiles and sunshine. Nothing could go wrong there. It was there that Aetheria felt overjoyed, able to actually talk in her dreams. Oh, how she wished she still had her voice from time to time. Having the rest of the family talk, leaving her quiet, was horribly difficult. Yes, it made for quite the display of fancy signs when she had something to say, but it was hard to catch up now and then. "I wish this was real," she spoke to a kitten flying by, who mewed in response. "I just want to say what's on my mind and not be left behind."
Lowering her head, she pouted, "I wish I never went out that night."
And just like that, the clouds faded away and the blue sky morphed into a dark, murky night. Even the kittens flew off, leaving Aetheria alone. "Wait! No! Come back!" She couldn't catch up with them, even if she tried, leaving her floating in the dark sky by herself. Blinking her blue eyes, she shivered at the thought of being alone and instantly wrapped her arms around body.
"Going somewhere, sweetheart?"
She knew that voice. How could she ever forget the horrifying rasp that came from her attacker? Before she could turn around, she was embraced from behind, strong arms holding her still. Aetheria tried her best to squirm out of his grasp, only to make him chuckle sadistically into her ear. "You're quite the wriggly one. I like that." A hand groped at one of her breasts, making a tear roll down her cheek. "Makes it more interesting."
"Let me go! Please! I don't want this."
"Oh, but you do." His tongue dragged over her cheek, causing Aetheria to wince and whimper in discomfort. "You're a filthy, little whore and this is what naughty girls like you enjoy. This is all you're worth."
"No!" Aetheria pleaded with a shaking voice. "I don't want to play! Just leave me be!"
And there was the cold knife against her throat, too close for her liking. She had played with many rough men, knowing she could take quite a beating in comparison to her sister, but this was too far. Crying uncontrollably, Aetheria shook her head and tried to free herself from her captor. "You talk to much," he growled at her, the knife resting against her delicate skin. "Maybe we should cut your throat open and make sure you can never talk again."
"NO!" She shrieked out into the empty sky, feeling the blade sink through her neck. The second it did, everything faded away, leaving Aetheria with an overwhelming sensation of agony. And then the sky turned blue again and she found herself falling through the open space, her stomach turning and twisting all the while. Why did I go that night? Why didn't I just stay with Rora? She would have been there for me.
"No I wouldn't."
Whipping her head around, she spotted her twin floating by her side, a disgusted look upon her face. "I've been blind all my life and everyone stopped giving me sympathy. You always stood out because you could talk and see. I'm glad you can't talk anymore. Everyone was getting sick and tired of what you had to say anyways."
Aetheria couldn't believe what she was hearing, shaking her head while trying to reach out to her twin. "Rora, no! I always sympathized you! It's why I never left your side. I wanted to be there for you. You needed me and I needed you."
"You don't need me," Aurora scoffed, shooting a nasty glare at her twin. "You don't need anyone." Visions of the rest of her family came into view, all of them with disapproving looks on their faces. "We don't need you, either.
"We didn't come sooner, because we didn't care," Diana piped in, a stern gaze set in her once warm eyes.
"I wish that man had killed you that night." Another sibling had added on, but by that time, Aetheria had closed her eyes and refused to watch.
"I wish you'd just go away."
The voices grew more and more distant, knowing that she was falling away from them. She refused to open her eyes to see where she was falling, wishing she would crash eventually in hopes to wake up from the dream. Anticipation rose in her body, whispers lingering in her mind of what had just been spoken to her. No one loves me... I'm just a stupid whore... that's all I'll ever be. I just want to make people happy. Why can't I make them happy? What did I do wrong? She forced her eyes open, seeing the ground down below. Welcoming the crash, she felt herself about to collide into the ground, bracing herself for impact.
And then she woke up.
Sitting straight up in the bed, Aetheria wanted to do nothing but scream on the top of her lungs, scared of the visions she just saw. Instead, not a sound came out past her lips. This was no longer a dream. Knowing she couldn't talk meant she was back in reality. Though tears were cascading quietly down her face. Gasping for air, she glanced over to her twin, hoping she didn't wake her up. I don't want people to hate me, she thought to herself, clinging hard onto her plushie. I just want everyone to be happy. Curling up into a ball, she continued to weep gently into her knees, terrified of falling back asleep and back to the nightmare.
Why can't I be happy?
