Cecil was right. Jadyn didn't need to cry now. She needed to be strong for her kid, even if she couldn't find reason to do that for herself. Quentin could talk until he was blue in the face, but somehow he still got the feeling that she wouldn't believe him. He didn't have the knack that Kevin did with her - even when they weren't dating, the two of them always got along. Quentin had seen them together, he knew the truth.
It was all he could do to lock eyes with her and nod back. He didn't like it, but he understood. And that was why he could mouth It's okay back to her. Reaching over, he wrapped both her and Cecil in a hug, leaning over the toddler to drop a kiss on Jadyn's head. Whatever you need me for, I'm here. Always. And don't you ever forget that.
"It's all right, kiddo," he told Cecil after a moment. "Mommy's gonna be fine." I won't lose her too. "What do you say I go grab you your birthday present, huh?" It was easier to focus on the little boy, knowing that it made Cecil happy and therefore, maybe it would help Jadyn too. It was something Quentin could still do for the two of them, and though it wasn't helping the actual problem, maybe he could bring a smile to Jadyn's face again.
At the end of the day, that was really all he wanted for her, the reminder that all was not lost. She had Cecil. She had Quentin. And he wasn't going to give up on her. Ever.
