Blood Poisoned
Who: Hunter
Where: Home/Hospital
When: Night
"Dammit!" The xbox controller smashed into the wall before falling to the floor, the batteries popping out. It was a violent reaction to a video game death, but Hunter was annoyed by more than just that. The phone had been ringing non-stop since he started the level, a distraction he didn't welcome. It rang again and he rose to his feet, ready to rip into the caller if it wasn't something urgent. "Hello?"
There wasn't much that would stop him cold, but a call from the hospital did so. There'd been an accident, a wreck, a head on collision with an eighteen wheeler and his father had been rushed to the emergency room. How long had they been calling with him ignoring the calls? This wasn't something you left on an answering machine. The person on the other line continued to talk and Hunter stood there, open mouthed and white as a ghost. The information was coming so fast that he could barely keep up, but he knew the all important question: "Is he okay?"
No, obviously not, or he wouldn't be in the hospital, but it was easier to ask than "will he make it". That wasn't an option Hunter was ready to face. He'd always thought himself strong, able to handle anything that was thrown his way, but this wasn't supposed to be one of them. Dominic was everything to him, the only real family he had. He couldn't remember the last time he'd seen his mother and he had no brothers or sister. It was just the two of them. Hunter could hear his heart pounding in his ears as the nurse rattled off his father's condition. Multiple contusions, broken bones, internal bleeding. But he was stable, at least for the time being, and things were looking up. Dominic would be rushed into emergency surgery. Did he understand?
It took Hunter a moment to realize a question had been asked, then he nodded his head and answered, the phone against his ear. "Yes. Yes, I'll be right there. No, it's just me. I'll be there as soon as I can." Who else was he going to call? Without so much as a thank you, Hunter hung up and grabbed his keys, pulled on his shoes, and was out the door.

"Where is he?"
The nurse looked up from her station into the demanding eyes of an eighteen year old boy. She was going to need more information than that to answer his question, and even then she might not be able to. This sort of thing happened often, though, and she had the feeling Hunter had the right to be there. She could see it in his eyes. "Who are you looking for?" she asked, a calm presence in a chaotic environment. If she let herself get wound up as well, she wouldn't be able to do her job.
"Dominic Crowe. My dad. He was in a car accident. You called," Hunter said, looking back behind her as if he might catch sight of where his father had been taken to. For some reason, he thought he'd walk into the hospital and someone would take him right to his father. Instead, he'd been sent from one department to another, attempting to track down Dominic's current location. He was frustrated, panicked, and a little bit scared, though he would never admit to it.
"Can I see some identification?" the nurse asked. It was a question she hated asking, since they almost always too offense to it, but she couldn't provide patient information to anyone outside the family. Even then, it was still restricted to certain levels, but as she pulled up Dominic's records on the computer she saw that Dominic's son had indeed been contacted. She wondered to herself where the boy's mother was and if she had gotten a call yet. Dominic had listed both names under next of kin, but the records were clearly out-dated. That wasn't her call to make, though, so she checked the ID that Hunter flashed and rose from her seat. "Thank you, Hunter. If you'll come with me..."
