"All right, all right, Jesus," Lauren capitulated, letting him drag her around. "You always this pushy with your patients?" It was mostly the threat of horse tranquilizers that made her capitulate; the last thing she wanted was to be sedated in a vet's office and done who knows what with. She wasn't sure vets took the Hippocratic Oath and becoming some curious doc's experiment was pretty much at the bottom of her to-do list. Not that he seemed the type to play mad scientist, but she'd seen the crazy the Light of May had brought out of the woodwork, and she wasn't really keen on taking any chances.
Not that she really thought she was one of his patients, that was, but she boosted herself up to sit on the table with her good arm, a grimace crossing her face at the jolt. "Trust me," she said, "it's still set. Shifting didn't knock it back out and you'd've had to pull a hell of a lot harder to pop it out of the socket again." She was acutely conscious of the marten skin folded neatly in her waistband, but the neck of the scrubs was big enough to expose her shoulder if it was necessary. Still, she wasn't going to be completely happy until it was safely hidden in her car. "Big family," she remarked after a second, nodding towards the cubs. "Daughters?"
