Lauren was almost there. She'd booked it when the two baby wolves had kicked up a stir, knowing she had very little time before the vet was back out, but she wasn't fast enough. It hurt when he grabbed her by the injured arm and spun her around; Lauren grit her teeth hard, managing to turn a pained cry into a faint, mostly stifled noise. "Look, I'm sorry," she said, wanting to run but hesitant to pull herself out of his grasp and cause unnecessary pain. She pried at his fingers, hoping to loosen his grip. "I was going to come back and pay for the treatment, but I don't exactly have my wallet on me right now." It was too much to hope that a freaking werewolf wouldn't catch that her scent wasn't strictly were, but maybe she could attribute it to hanging around humans a lot. Or maybe the fact that she was wearing a stranger's scrubs would help muddle everything.
Either way, she wasn't answering his last question. "Give me half an hour to get out there and get back, okay?" she tried. She would come back... but right now she just wanted to get gone and avoid any uncomfortable questions. She realized that was probably a tall order.
