As she punched numbers in on the cash register, Rowan's fingers faltered with his latest comment. What does that mean? she thought. She was trying to figure out what the hell he could possibly be responding to, and came up completely blank. Unless she said something out loud that she hadn't meant to, and that was a kind of horrifying thought. Don't think about it, she thought, hurrying to take care of the next customer. Only a few more left.
His words to her surprised her, and enough to get her grinning again. Dammit, she didn't want to like this guy. She ended up thinking that every time he was around, but it was kind of hopeless. He genuinely seemed like a good guy. Her first conversation ever with him had been extremely impressive and insightful. "Yeah, well, the feeling's mutual," she said, shrugging it off. "At least no one's ordered a popsicle yet." The girl currently standing in the front of the line blinked at her. "Don't ask," Rowan advised. Wisely, this girl decided to stay quiet.
