Make myself believe that planet earth turns slowly
Who: Linnea and Satu + their familiars (NPCs)
Where: The river by their home
When: Later afternoon
When one was going to tell a child something, especially something important, it was always better to do it after a good day. Or after a good day that had left them nice and tired out. Say, after said child had just played in a softball game and won. That was the best time and Linnea had no shame in admitting that she was using that to her advantage when it came to Satu. She had known the girl for almost her entire life after all and knew that it was better to break certain types of news to her when she was in a good mood. And too tired to run away or pitch a fit that lasted for more than half an hour or so. Having her in the water would help too so, instead of taking her right home, Linnea had insisted on a little mother-daughter time down at the river. None of her children, with the exception of Leif, had ever raised an objection to spending time alone with her and it was no different when it came to her youngest. Not for too much longer. And that was likely the bit of news that was going to hit her little Satu the hardest. She knew that the girl prized being the baby of the family and now, knowing that there was a demonic side to her, she would not be anywhere near happy to give it up. That was her title and had been so for twelve years, giving it up... Linnea was still not sure how on earth she was going to tell her. 'But if you don't then you know that she'll hear it from one of the others,' Strike pointed out. 'Likely the icy one. Or her familiar. Slipper doesn't know the meaning of keeping a secret.' As always, the snake had insisted on coming along and was wrapped around Linnea's wrist as she stood in waist-deep water, just letting her element welcome and soothe her as it always did so easily. It was also soothing to have Satu there with her. She knew that she spent enough time with her children, but sometimes she felt like she was missing out on little odds and ends that she did not want to.
"You did quite well today, Satu," Linnea congratulated, giving herself a shake so that Satu did not think that something was wrong like the last time they had come down to the river. I don't think that this really qualifies as that bad. Strike disagreed as he unwound himself to swim off after a particularly juicy looking fish, but Linnea ignored him. It was difficult to actually feel any sort of upset when she had this much of her element around her, even if she knew that Satu was not going to be happy with her before too much longer had passed. "And are you ready for school to start? I know that we'll need to go shopping for all of your clothes soon. Unless you'd like for your sisters to take you instead? I know that you were saying at the party that you could go shopping just as well as them when Dagmar and Kajsa were talking about going." She did not want to have her other children take Satu. That was something that the mother was supposed to do and she was not quite ready to give that seemingly little thing up just yet. Unless Satu insisted.
'You're doing that human thing.' Strike's voice was bored. 'Playing around the subject. Must you do that with everyone that you converse with?' Linnea did not answer because she knew that her familiar knew that the answer was yes.
