His question earned a laugh. "No, I wish!" She had a sudden vision of one of her paintings up on display in an auction house, with people furiously bidding up the price to own it. "Maybe one day, but this is more like the other way around: The company or government will put out a description of the kind of art they want, how much they're willing to pay, and a theme. I put together a proposal, usually describing what I see that would meet their requirements and maybe a sketch of the concept. If they like it, they award me the job and I make it. That's usually only for big projects, like murals or sculptures though. Smaller stuff is usually just a straight up commission."
Her face lit up at the idea of coming down and sketching some of the animals. "Oh, that's a great idea! They don't have to sit still, I can sketch them at play." She might even try to make a few small paintings based off the sketches. It would make a nice change from the landscapes and still life works she'd done lately.
