you've been where?
Who: Kiley and Vendela When: early evening Where: run in at the Starbucks
Sun kissed was not the expression she’d use. Sun drenched was more like it. Her nose, cheeks and forehead were pink from sitting out in the sun all day. Sitting in the car she studied the sun’s effects in the rearview mirror. She used her fingers tip to press into her skin, watching the tell tale dot of white dissipate telling her that she needed at the very least an ice coffee before she hit the road back to her pack lands and to the meeting that was happening at night thirty.
She had plenty of time right? She tapped the wonky digital display clock on her radio. The 8 and 0 were immpossible to read since they both flickered like ghosts of the other.
Where to go to get her ice coffee though? Seriously, it did take some thought because there was at least two places on her way home but only one place took her order just by sight alone. “Fuck it…” she said under her breath, pulling a U-ie in the middle of the road before heading off to the only coffee shop she felt like getting to. Finding a parking spot was another story. It was warm out, the berry festival had brought folks out from out of town and it felt like everyone was fighting their way into the Starbucks to get their frozen, mocha Frappuccino.
Only after her car was parked and she had played a game of frogger crossing the street did she step into the café. At first her nose only picked up the scent of coffee grounds and the usual human odors (perfume, deoderant, sweat, soap, blood...)….until something distinctly double familiar wafted her way…
