Who: Fiona and debut of her familar Guinevere (aka Gwen) (NPC) Where: Her apartment When: Early evening of July 19th
Fiona hated feeling this way but knew before she could really open her soul to someone she had to start facing who she was in every sense of the word. The first step in that process was facing her powers: all of them. So there she stood in her kitchen trying to control a fork with only her TK being a factor while working on her berry cookoff entry. That was when she heard a pecking on her kitchen window so the fork hit the floor as Fiona went for a look. That was when she saw the bird, a Peregrine Falcon of all breeds (and one that was common in her various books). "How unusual!" as she opened the window to study the bird. That was when she was shocked to see the bird fly inside, resting atop a shelf. But then things just got odder when the bird spoke to the younger woman,"You need me as much as I need you Fiona".
That one sentence sent her flying towards the microwave,"You talked!". The falcon spoke again,"I have the intelligent nature of humans and granted thanks to the recent madness it took me longer than expected to find you. But my name is Guinevere but you may call me Gwen for short, I am your familar and well my dear you are an elemental in massive not facing what you are mode". The fact the bird shares the same name as Fiona's Renaissance Festival role was striking enough but this was simply odd, even for Fiona.
Fiona was basically speechless but she finally got out the one thing on her mind,"Explain please?" almost choking on the words. The bird gave Fiona the short version of things,"But now that I've found you I can't die of natural causes and if your future kids are elementals I will act as familar to them as well. But things look darker and yes I know you are a book witch. Sometimes the books don't tell the entire story since you think we only help the born witches. We're now helping the elementals as well.". Fiona was left speechless once again but that was when the falcon perched herself atop Fiona's shoulder,"Let me help you" and that was when all her emotions usually pushed behind her icy facade came to the surface.
Between her tears (the first round of many Guinevere knew) and some serious moral support from the falcon Fiona was finally on the way to facing the truth about herself. But for the moment the girl and the bird needed to get to know each other.
"How do you feel about berries?" Fiona asked Gwen as she finally got off the floor to resume work on her cookoff entry,"Major berry cookoff and I am going to entry my trademark rasberry tart". Gwen just perched herself atop the nearby shelf simply to watch, learn and support her young charge during this period.
Ever so often the bird would lend a helping hand as she gently helped Fiona start the road to face who she was as an elemental/psychic.
