See there, don't know where you come from
Who: Adelle and Oz
Where: Phonelines initially
When: 7PM
It was the second demon free day of the week, and after a rather uneventful day of dancing Adelle returned home to shower and wash the layer of sweat and dirt off of herself her thoughts wandered to what else she wanted to get done before the week was through. She needed groceries, there were resumes to send out and she wanted to schedule a meeting at Starbucks with her besties, because it had been too long, and she was sure that she didn't have any news that would piss them off. That, and she needed to know that they were safe, their families included. Roxy and Charlene as an item needed to be discussed, and that poor guy, Quentin. God, what had they been doing all week when there was gossip to be had?!
Oz. She needed to call him! They'd been all set to go out earlier in the week and then Crazy McDemons guy in Europe or wherever had let loose demons again and all the plans were ruined. Also, cute boy was cute, and she wanted to know that he was still interested in seeing her. So she grabbed her phone, slipped into the bathroom for that shower and hit his name under contacts. She tapped speaker phone before beginning to peel away her workout clothes, and let her hair down. That needed to get washed too. No way would she be letting him take a whiff of sweaty hair.
"Oz. It's Adi!" She almost sang when the sound of his voice filled the bathroom. She hoped he wouldn't mind her showering, but she was odd and had been doing calling people while in the shower for as long as she could remember. The little siren started the shower, and shoved her hand in the line of fire to test its warmth. "I was wondering if you were free to hang out since the demons like, totally screwed our original plan."
The demons had been a thing, Oz supposed. It had made for some interesting time crammed into the Scarlet Oak gym with who knew how many people he did not need to be around, not to mention seeing first-hand his little brother's semi-awkward advances towards one were-penguin girl. He was so never going to let Otter forget about that and he was definitely going to have to make sure to tell Roxy about it too. Well, once she was speaking to her family again. Though hey - things were okay between the sisters, Kat was cool like that. For a kid.
But enough thinking. Oz was relaxed out by the river, legs dangling in the water while he soaked up the sun and just relaxed. Because everyone needed those days and he had nothing - wait, why was his phone ringing? Brow creasing he reached over and fumbled into his backpack to pull out the cell and squint at the number. Adelle? Oh! That girl from the... shiiiit. He had been supposed to go on a date with her or something earlier in the week. "Hey," he replied when he picked up and heard the sound of her voice and, wait, was that a shower? Was she in the shower? Oz's mind instantly painted a picture and he found himself grinning up at the sky as he realized that this was already a good story for the guys. 'Yeah I totally chatted with a girl who was in the shower just the other day...'
"I'm pretty open for the rest of the day, don't work or anything so if you're uh, not showering all night then I'm sure we could do something. Dinner and a movie was the plan?"
Something told her that Oz had forgotten about what he said, but it was forgivable, he was that cute. On top of that, she could feign that it slipped his mind with all the goings on about demons and evil and crazy people interrupting the normality she enjoyed so much when she wasn't trying to kill people. Passing a soapy loofah over her body, she maneuvered herself about to maximize the warm water on her skin. Sure, it was hot outside but she loved being in the shower. It just managed to melt all of her thoughts away and leave only clean, good things.
"I think I actually could shower all day. The water just makes everything better. Yeah, dinner and a movie was the plan unless you wanted to change things up last minute. I'm totally down for like, whatever you choose though." For once, it would be a date she could mention to her friends without getting one of the dreaded looks, or even be yelled at by Roxy for. She wanted them to approve, and deep down, she knew that it meant seizing control of who she was and what it entailed. Adelle needed to get a grasp on her situation and stop allowing herself to go where the attention came from. Step one is to totally stop slutting it up with every living thing. You don't have to flirt just because somebody's alive and cute. "But I'm warning you that getting dressed and doing my hair and doing my makeup and generally looking incredibly hot for you is gonna take some time."
Oz was not going to lie, knowing that he was on the phone with a girl - a hot one at that - who was in the shower was totally the reason he was grinning like an idiot. And he would have admitted it to anyone who asked, Adelle herself included. Because that was just how he operated. Although he did sort of need to think of that whole what-to-do thing since she was saying that she was fine with whatever he wanted.
"Nah, dinner and a movie sounds good. Maybe grab something light somewhere and then go to the Berry. Think it's opened back up now that everything is calm and I like watching movies there." Not just for the typical teenager reasons either. He actually was a true fan of stretching out on the roof of his car under the stars and catching a movie. Totally beat being cooped up in some theater where the seats were never really big enough and he needed to sit in the back or else he was blocking someone's view and you could bet that they were going to let him know he was. "And hey, I'm fine with you taking however long so that you look good. Won't take me as long." Jeans, a t-shirt, some cologne and maybe gel in the hair. He could probably get that done in ten minutes flat. "So... how long are we talking? So that I can know when to pick you up. Oh, and where. That's important too."
It totally wasn't Adelle's intention to seem like the hot little thing on the other line, but if that's what she wound up being, then she would have been entirely overjoyed to hear it. Wait, would getting excited over potentially being a locker room story a good thing? Being thought of as sexy and being a fantasy for guys did rank up there on her list of things to get done in life. In her fifteen minutes of fame that came with television, there had been a number of people interested in her.
"That sounds hot. I've never been to a drive-in but I think it's going to be like, totally amazing." Adelle reached for her shampoo and went to work lathering her hair and massaging her scalp. She should probably wear a skirt, or a dress, just something with access if she decided or even if he decided that their bodies needed to be touching. Something clicked and she gasped to herself, opening her eyes just long enough for a stinging burning sensation to envelop them. "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuudge." It was more a long whine than anything, as the siren lifted her head to the water to wash her eyes. Of course, drive-in movie, Roxy wanted to to get it on with Charlene in the car. Now I can tease her for like, ever. "Thirty minutes. The good part is that I'm pretty much done showering so I'm gonna jump out and start getting ready." She gave her address as soon as he was ready, and then rinsed and switched to conditioner.
Drive-ins were hot? If you're doing things, Oz thought with a grin, pushing himself up off the ground into a sitting position. The first place his mind went when drive-in's were mentioned was so not there, but since Adelle had mentioned it. Hey, isn't this girl Roxy's friend? Aren't Roxy's friends off limits in that way just like her sister? The legal one, not Kat, Kat was so not an option in a million years. Roxy would straight up kill him for one and for two she was like, fifteen! Oz was not that sort of guy, thanks but no thanks. Besides, Otter liked her. Oh he might not have come right out and said it but Oz could definitely tell when it came to his own brother.
"Half an hour? Seriously?" Well damn, looked like Adelle was faster than she had made it sound. Here Oz had expected something like an hour and he was pleasantly surprised to learn that was not the case. After making note of the address she gave - and hopefully he was going to remember it right, not like Cherryblossom was somewhere he went all of the time - he nodded to himself. "That sounds like a plan to me. I'll just go get ready and be at your place in forty-five minutes." Give her that extra fifteen because Oz knew girls. They were never ready when they claimed they would be, always took forever to do everything. Probably something coded right into their DNA. Not that he really understood DNA. "See you soon!" With that, he ended the call and gathered his stuff to head back to the house to get ready. Hell, he could even manage a quick shower. Last thing he needed was to smell like anything unpleasant.
She hadn't meant that the drive-in was literally hot. More that it was a cool idea. Adelle thought of herself as pretty dim-witted, so she was going to have a hard time classifying Oz. He just came across as, "not too bright" in her book, which was fine. It wasn't like she was going to win Jeopardy herself anytime soon. Even if Roxy wouldn't approve of Oz going out with Adelle that night, she saw herself getting into trouble more than the boy would. The siren was pretty sure that he wasn't out of his teens yet, and that wasn't stopping her. Hopefully, she wouldn't be labeled a cradle robber.
Thirty minutes wasn't near enough time for the girl to get ready, but she was counting on the boy being gracious with the time. It would be just enough time to get her hair and makeup done, and if she wanted to make sure she was choosing the right outfit, she was going to need close to an hour. Still, Scarlet Oak wasn't a big community, so he might have to wait for a bit. "That sounds good to me. See ya soon." Rather than touch her phone with wet hands, she let the call end when he hung up and finished washing her hair. A couple of minutes later she was debating drying it straight or curling it, but the flat iron was closer and won the battle. At least she hoped it did, she didn't want to wind up doing her hair again and risk further heat damage. Sigh. Straight was going to have to work today.
Oz did not have near as many concerns when it came to his appearance as Adelle. A quick shower, pair of jeans and a black polo shirt with a white tanktop underneath and he was good to go. Well, and some gel to give his hair a little spike with some cologne. After a few quick glances into the mirror he was shouting out at his parents that he was going out and would get back later and he was gone. He took his time driving just because he knew girls and how they were when it came to getting ready for dates, not wanting to rush her and make her feel all... whatever it was girls felt when they got flustered. It was cute on some girls but the ones it wasn't? Yeah, not the sort of thing you wanted to see on a first date.
Arriving at Cherryblossom, he fiddled with his radio before staring at the door. He had never been at Cherryblossom before, knowing very few people who could aford it, and going to one of the apartments for the first time was almost intimidating. Realizing that he had forgotten the number made it even worse. Pulling out his phone he fired off a text, 'Here, but I forgot the apartment #'
Getting dressed was hard, mainly because Adelle wanted to wear a simple t-shirt and jeans, and then she wanted to wear a dress, and then she wanted to trade the whole thing for something more dressy, she threw Kim Kardashian fashion on and then tugged it off. When it all came down to it, the siren was wearing one of her most comfortable and well known outfits. She didn't know anybody that wore sundresses as often as she did, and her siren libido wanted no interruptions. The more logical side of her brain, the one that didn't speak up so often, insisted that she at least wear shorts underneath it. The shorts with the button that liked to tuck into the waistband and roll over, making it hard to find and more than cumbersome.
Aw, no prob. OMW out. =) Tiny fingers slid across the iPhone's touchscreen as she sent the message off, and with one last look around for anything she may have forgotten, the small brunette chose a Tokidoki bag for the night, adjusted the flower clip on the right side over her ear and headed out. So You Think You Can Dance viewers had voted for her, praising her uber cute, Asian designed outerwear, and if it worked then, she might as well have kept it going. It usually took something different to get her noticed, seeing as she was so small and modest-figured.
Making her way outside, she spotted a boy that looked like Oz and made her way over. Good, she wasn't really that overdressed compared to him. That would've made for a disaster and another twenty minutes of chucking tops aside for something perfect. Adelle opened the door when she was close enough and leaned forward to greet her date before she clambered in. "Hey! Looking good, mister. Before I forget, I live in that one right there." She pointed to her window, bending forward a little to be able to accurately do so.
Oh well damn. Oz let out an appreciative whistle right before Adelle slid into the car. He knew that the girl was pretty but seeing her done up was a whole other matter entirely. "And it didn't even take you an hour," he pointed out with one of his trademark grins. "That's pretty impressive for a girl, I'm just saying." Not that he was trying to be insulting or anything that was just how he thought things went thanks to his experience with girls like Dagmar. Adelle was pretty much the opposite of Dagmar now that he thought about it. Dark where she was pale and a lot bouncier and more outgoing in general. He was definitely not disapproving because hey, why not?
After another glance, Oz reversed out of the parking lot and started off. Wait, where was he going again? Oh. "Grabbing something from the Owl's Nest before the movie sound good to you? You look really good, by the way, I love the sundress. Haven't seen a whole lot of girls in them."
Well if that didn't feel good she didn't know what would. His eyes, the whistle, and that sexy smile he gave her made Adelle's face flush. She wasn't used to that all at once, and she was grateful that it was happening now, on a normal date instead of one of her wild, promiscuous hunts. "Well I tried my best to not keep you waiting, I mean, I coulda easily been like, another forty-five minutes." Because this dress has some odd wrinkles that I'm so hating right now. "If I'd known you were going to like that so much I would've been out of the shower and dressing before I called. I dunno, I just hoped you were free, because it's been crazy in town and I needed to get ouuuut."
"Owl's Nest sounds good. I haven't been there. What kinda food is it?" Not that it mattered. With a father like hers she ate almost anything. For having a bird form, Adelle was anything but peckish. "Thank you! I like to wear them a lot, but I was kinda having trouble deciding whether I should just wear this or like a top and jeans." If Adelle knew who Dagmar was, she would've been happy to show him that some girls could appear low maintenance. For as bubbly as the siren was, she certainly made up for it when it came time. On the hunt, she was vicious and ruthless, otherwise she was as sweet as she could manage without making herself puke.
Oz was fully aware of exactly what his smile and such made girls do, or feel. He had been told quite a few times and that was not the sort of thing that one went and forgot. It was important after all. For someone like him at least. "I believe it," Oz agreed. Not because she needed it or anything but because she was a girl. In addition to the girls that he had gone out with he did have quite a few sisters. Hard not to catch onto all the things they did or liked to do when it came to dates when you were constantly surrounded by them. And hey, he was so not complaining when that knowledge helped him out from time to time. "Going out is one of those things I do best so as long as death isn't being threatened I am game." That was the otter side, no doubt, fear was not something he ever understood.
He shrugged at the question about the Owl's Nest. "Pretty good stuff... mix of everything. Never really thought about what 'kind' of food they have." Stuff that he and everyone in his family would eat. Their chefs were top notch. At a stop sign his eyes went over to scan the dress again and he nodded, smile reappearing. "Right choice, dress is definitely appreciated. I would've gone with one too except you know, I forgot to shave my legs this morning."
Adelle couldn't say whether or not she actually knew anything about boys. For as much as she liked them, she didn't know if her smile affected them or what they liked about her. She had been going solo for most of her life, and as silent as her mother was about the siren issue, she wasn't much help in telling her about boys. So now, the little brunette assumed that boys enjoyed seeing girls in dresses, which worked in her favor. She looked out at the road for a few seconds before turning her gaze to look at him again. "I hope I'm more entertaining than you going out on one of those crazy runs of yours. Do you go out a lot? I mean, I moved here a little bit ago so I'm still learning where all the fun is." Adelle wasn't going to try to kill him. At least she hoped she wasn't going to, she was sated and calm, completely in control of herself. He was safe. She hoped that he was safe.
"I'm not picky. I know a lot of girls are picky but I eat like, anything. My Dad's a chef so there was always something totally new to try. And I'm lucky because it was all good. He never made cupcakes though," she laughed to herself and fiddled with the hem of her dress to keep herself from looking up this 'Owl's Nest' on her phone. She hoped that it was a nice, down-home restaurant. Even if it was the north, maybe this sleepy town had something amazing to offer. "God, now I kinda want cupcakes."
Crazy runs? Oz did not think that his runs were even close to crazy! They were what kept him in shape and on the team. Well, that and the fact that he was a were and had all of that natural added abilities, but he could not remember for the life of him if he had told Adelle what he was or not. Not that it was a secret but he could not remember for the life of him. His memory was terrible like that. "Every morning at least, sometimes twice if I get bored," he replied, turning into the Owl's Nest. Scarlet Oak was really not big enough a place to drive around forever unless one felt like going in circles and he hated circles. Except hoops when he was an otter because those were a good time.
But damn Adelle talked a lot. And kind of fast. Oz was not fully sure that he caught everything that she said and he sort of just blinked and nodded at her as he parked the car and undid his seatbelt. "Well I do know the place where they make the best cupcakes in town," Oz bragged as he hopped out and waited for her to join him. "But here is good for dinner. If you're still craving a cupcake maybe we can swing by the bakery on our way to the Berry?' He, for one, already knew what he wanted. Fried fish sounded absolutely heavenly.
Oz hadn't told Adelle about being a were at all, Kat just had a bit of a mouth and they really hadn't thought it to be a secret when they were talking about him via texts. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to know or not, but she'd feign ignorance if he wanted to tell her himself. The boy did go on crazy runs, whether he wanted to admit it or not. She wouldn't back down on that. But twice in a morning? He probably looked three times as good under those clothes than she thought he did. Good lord. The siren almost squeaked in anticipation of someday seeing him shirtless.
"I'm gonna trust you about this place," Adelle said as she climbed out of the car and straightened her dress on the way around the vehicle to meet her date. "So if I want dessert I'll have it here." It looked like a nice restaurant, and she was sure that he knew what he was talking about. Kat had said that the Snows lived in Scarlet Oak, so why wouldn't he know where to go for a bite to eat? "I am soooo hungry. I worked out earlier and I haven't eaten anything since. So hey, I'm gonna try not to eat like a totally wild animal in front of you."
"Hey," Oz shrugged with a grin as he led the way. "I do know my food. Kind of eat a lot of it most days." Not because he was a growing boy anymore, though those had been fun days and his mom still accused him of having tried to eat them out of house and home, but because he was sort of big and active and it took a lot to get him through a day. Not his fault his genes had turned him out this way. Girls liked it so that was one plus. "Not healthy to only eat once a day!" Pulling the door open for her he gave a mock frown and waggled a finger at her. "Plus I don't think you can eat more than me if you tried - you're still okay with getting our food to go, right? If not we can eat here, up to you.'
Adelle imagined a mound of food the size of a haystack, and then a rather content Oz scarfing it all down. It was probably close to what fed him, and if the Snows really did have that many children? She could only imagine how much the family spent on groceries for a month. Her own family spent a lot, but that was because her dad loved fresh ingredients, and her mom loved microwavable things. "Well I ate breakfast, but I didn't have a lunch. It's an excuse to eat candy at the movie." She walked inside and let her eyes adjust to the lower lighting as she looked around. Nice, quaint place. If the food was as awesome as Oz boasted, she'd definitely be a return customer. "Maybe next time we can see who can eat more, I'll have you know I'm totally awesome at putting away potstickers. And yeah, I'm fine with getting it to go, just give me a menu and point me in the right direction."
If there was a mound of food available every day then Oz would have eaten it happily. But for now he usually settled for portions that were usually just double what everyone else got. "Okay, well, here's the menu for what you can get," Oz handed her one from the stand by the cash register. "And when you're ready we tell them what we want. But girl, you'll never be able to out eat me." He was grinning but he was dead serious too. Just look at the difference in sizes! And that was only the first comparison. The second was that Oz ran a lot so when he ate he tended to eat in large quantities. Like right now he already knew what he wanted. "Double order of the cod with fries and a large coke to go," he said, nodding at the girl behind the counter. "And whatever she's having."
"I might be small but I know how to eat! I bet it could maybe get pretty close. I'd just need some really intense exercise before it happened." Oz had known what he wanted already so both he and the girl behind the counter where waiting for Adelle. She was going to keep them waiting as long for as long as it took for her to make up her mind, and then bam! She was craving a burger or a chicken sandwich or a chicken salad, but she didn't want to be a girly girl and order the salad. What was she talking about? Please, she was a girly girl and she was going to order the salad. Or the burger. But a chicken sandwich sounded really good right then. "Can I get a burger, uh.. medium well, and hold the fries. I'll have a chicken caesar salad too, and you can them together in one box. Oh, and a coke too."
Well damn. Oz let out an impressed whistle at what Adelle ordered and slung an arm around her shoulders before kissing her on top of the head. A little show of affection that he tended to give to whatever girl he was with when he was out, nothing more. "Maybe you could be more of a threat then I figured!" he laughed before releasing her to pay the bill. It only took about ten minutes for their order to come through, the Nest always being good like that, and Oz spent the time seeing who was in and who was not, waving to a few friends before picking up the boxes. "You get the drinks? Because we can totally still make it in time to catch all of the previews and those are one of the best parts." See what was coming and if anything else that year would be worth the time. Not to mention hey, he had a pretty girl in the car next to him, that was a definite improvement on Alex or Gabe or something.
The small girl didn't want to blush, but she did. She went bright, bright red, and was glad that Oz turned away to pay for their food. He totally didn't have to, but she was far too distracted trying to not let him see her face that she forgot to object. It was an odd feeling. But for once she felt like more of a normal girl than the termed she'd affectionately coined for herself, "dumb slut." For once in her life, she was on date instead of a quick lunch, or dinner, or coffee before she made her way onto the other person's lap. "Maybe. You shouldn't underestimate me just because I'm so small! I could caught you by surprise." The salad was for the time being, and some of the burger if she still felt a little bit hungry. Adelle picked up the drinks and moved to open the door with her back before Oz could maneuver to do it. "Of course. I give you permission to speed a little, because I'm friends with Roxy, and I doubt anything you do will be worse than her doing sixty in a thirty." Just as long as the previews didn't feature anything with Scarlet Johansson. If there was ever one movie star that made her date look at her differently, it was Scarlet Johansson.
Adelle had totally blushed and Oz loved that. Girls blushing was insanely fun and meant that he had figured out a way to get under their skin. Apparently for Adelle that way was touching her, even if it was just an arm around the shoulders. Sweet. "Or I just don't think girls eat as much as me because most other humans don't," Oz shot back. He did snort at the idea of his driving being better than Roxy's. Yeah it was, pretty much had to be by default because no one he knew who was not a race car driver drove like the other were. She was totally insane on the road and he had no idea how she had even gotten the license. Maybe they were all insane in California. "I don't have to speed," the teenager remarked as he climbed in, setting the food beween the seats before starting the car back up. "But we'll still get there. You're in way better hands than when you ride with Roxy." Here he winked, wondering if she'd share what he just said with the penguin-girl. That could be hilarious.
It had been the combination of the arm around her and then the kiss on her forehead like she was this cute little thing that he enjoyed. If he did that again around other people she would probably burst from all the blood rushing to her face. "Oh yeah, of course. I mean, how much can weres eat?" Which meant from his statement that he didn't smell bird on her. That was interesting. The vampires couldn't tell that she was anything different until they tasted her, and weres couldn't either. Suuuuck. It added a new level of complexity to things to realize that pretending to be a were-bird wasn't really going to be possible with her current friends.
Adelle stifled a giggle at his view on Roxy's wheelman skills. "God, this one time I swear. We went to In-N-Out Burger, which is like, all over Cali, but I told her I went to the one in Las Vegas with my friend one summer, and she pulls a u-turn in the middle of street to get on the highway." The little brunette took a little sip of her soda before she continued. Was it hers? Well, it was hers now. "And I'm like, oh my God, Roxy! And she totally goes, 'buckle up, chica. Porque si es bueno, es bueno. And we fly down the road at like 95. We made it back before anybody really knew we were gone, but holy crap. I'm totally telling her what you said."
"A lot," Oz said with a measure of pride. "My whole family - except Otter - are were's and you should see when we all go at it." Luckily they were a matter of pride for the tribe as well and had never once had a problem when it came to food. Definitely another one of the upsides to being a Chippewa was how much they respected nature and the various forms of it. If legends were to be believed, and why should they not be with all that happened in the world these days?, then the Snow's had been defenders... when they were not busy playing somewhere. Oz would totally believe it. No one ever thought an otter was frightening but he knew what they looked like hybrid and hey, he would run away screaming if he was not one. People did not need tails, for example, or fur. He also smelled nothing on Adelle that was not human, not that he was trying. Roxy had never mentioned having another were friend back home so the thought never crossed his mind.
Oh hell no, the Spanish. Oz understood some because his family was friends with the Diaz's and they were forever rambling on in it, but it made him wince every time. "No Spanish, or I'll start thinking about Roxy and please, last person I want to think about when I'm on a date." He waved his hand and took a long drink of his drink to try and make the association go away. "But tell her whatever you want, I'll so be ready for a little explosion. Waaaaay overdue for a prank war with that girl." Maybe this time he would find a way to switch up her hair dye, turn it some hideous shade of orange or green. Still grinning at the idea, Oz paid for their entrance to the movie and pulled up into a spot not too close or far from the screen, pushing the seat back so that he could actually stretch his legs out. "Ahhhh, here we go! Eat up, Adi, still got the previews."
Oh wow, all of the Snows besides the one that Kat said she was going to hang with the other week, they were all weres. Well, she didn't actually know how many people were in the immediate Snow family, but it definitely was impressive to hear that an entire family inherited the gene. What were the odds of that really happening? "Are you all otters? And wow, way to pick on your brother, bee tee dubs. I'm sure he loves you all, but despises you for the nickname. I'm an only child, if you couldn't tell. A little bit spoiled, but my mom and dad are constantly at odds on giving me stuff or taking it away."
"Oh, whoops, sorry." It was hard not to get swept up in the Chilean's way of speech, especially being friends in college. Luckily, Adelle only retained the likes, and totallys, and oh-my-gods. It was a shame that Fina hadn't taken to the Cali girl lifestyle. The little brunette took another little sip as Oz pulled them into a perfect spot. She watched as he stretched out, catching his muscles flexing briefly with the action. That was an awesome view. "I love previews, but there's always some dude talking through them with his buddies. You know, the annoying dude who's super critical about everything so he's like, "Oh em gee, that wouldn't happen in the original! Remakes are horrible! But you didn't even watch the original lame 80s show anyway so you don't even care." Picking up her food and retrieving a fork, the siren opened the package to dig into her salad. They'd arrived so quickly that the burger hadn't even really gotten a chance to warm the lettuce. Sweet.
"Yeeep," Oz said through a mouthful of fish, swallowing it down with a gulp of pop. "And hey, he likes it better than his name! Never complained that I know of." Not that Oz could ever be accused of paying all that much attention to what his little brother did or did not like... sometimes he forgot that Otter was there. Not because he disliked the kid or anything - he was actually pretty chill and level-headed, even more mature than he probably should be - but because he had other things to focus on. Like football, the environment and girls. Once Otter started getting into those things then he would be able to hang out with him more. "Why, do you not know a lot of were families? I mean, you have Roxy's! Ton of penguins right there, we're just like that, only otters. Waaaay cooler." He winked at Adelle, hoping that was yet another thing Roxy would hear. God, enough with the Roxy thing, going to beat that to death and I seriously cannot be thinking about her when I'm on a date! Out, out, out!
Ugh, that guy, Oz knew a lot of those guys. Though really they tended to be the geeks and nerds and Oz was not on the best of terms with that sort of guy. They were annoying and way too smart for their own good. So what if they knew what the hell the speed of light was? He was willing to bet all his money that they had never even gotten to second base with a girl, poor things, going to end up living in their mother's basements for the rest of their lives. "No worries right now because it's just us and I am definitely not going to make comments. Got my food and a pretty girl I mean come on, I'm dense but I'm not stupid." Good impressions were not made by raving about something being wrong. Who cared? Not Oz and clearly not Adelle either.
So Otter probably had a bad real name then. Adelle couldn't say she didn't want to meet him, if only because Kat had him as a friend. Who knew, maybe they wold make a cute couple or something. She really was a sweet girl, and her passion for rollerblading totally matched what Adelle had harbored for dance at that age. The younger were made Adelle really want a sister, but she was sure that it wouldn't be a big hassle if she decided to borrow the girl for a day. "Is Oz your real name then?" She took her eyes off of him to focus on her salad for a few seconds, getting a few seemingly un-ladylike mouthfuls in before chewing and swallowing. "I really can't imagine you turning into something so small though! I mean, where does it all go?"
"Aw, but it's just the two of us, we can whine all we want. And you can look at Megan Fox or something. She's in like everything now." Just please, please no Scarlet Johansson, I think I'd cry. Oz thought he was dense? Aw, what a way to think of yourself. Adelle gave him her best sympathetic look as she continued to fork her salad. "Well, if it counts for anything, I don't think you're dense." She didn't know him too well, but yeah. Then again, the little brunette wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and she knew it. But at least this time I remembered it was a shed and not a box. On normal circumstances, she would have flashed him one of her best smiles but she was eating a salad and green things loved to stick to teeth so yeah, no. "What did you get tickets for anyway?"
Laughing around his food, Oz shook his head and swallowed. "God no, everyone in my family has really native names except for Joe; like Aponi and Liselli. Mine's Jacy so it's not that bad but I picked up Oz somewhere and it just stuck really well." That and he only responded to his given name if someone in the family or from the reservation was saying it. Jacy seemed a little girlish to him, really, and it had been one of the things he got teased about as a kid. One of the very few things. "And I have no clue, not my sort of thing to figure it out, I just do it. Maybe if you're good I'll show you sometime." He gave her that wink that had made all the girls at school giggle before finishing off his dinner. What? He had totally tasted it!
"Transformers 2," Oz grinned, finding it hilarious that Adelle had just said he could stare at Megan Fox when she was in the movie. Totally one of the reasons he wanted to see it, but the rest of the reasons were because he had loved Transformers growing up and it was an action movie after all. Why the hell not? The fact that maybe Adelle would have liked something more romantic had never even crossed his mind. Or that she might be just as dull as him, so he shrugged off her thinking him not that dense. He never tried impressing girls with his mind. "Did you see the first one? Don't think it really matters if you have, just curious."
Jacy was a bit of a girl's name, but she was glad that he was honest about it and didn't play around. A lot of guys loved to fool around and only be called by their nicknames, like everyone was just another one of the guys. But she couldn't say that Aponi and Liselli were bad names, but hopefully they were girls names, because she would probably laugh at a guy named either of those. "Well then I'll be on my best behavior." Did Adelle even have best behavior? It was either she kept her hands to herself and was loud and talkative, or she kept her hands on him and was by definition, pretty damn naughty. At least there was a console between them to make it harder for her to snuggle up next to him. Seeing that wink he gave though did make her laugh. It was like he was encouraging her to be bad.
"Oooh." Well, it was going to be a Megan Fox fest then. At least she had that face that made her look so fake to Adelle. But the body? Yeah, they'd both be looking at that, and even Shia LeBeouf wore his shirts stretched tightly over his chest. Even if the movie was bad, they would have a good time, most likely. "Yeah I saw it. It kinda lost me at the end, with all the shaky stuff, and I could never really tell which one was which anyway. I liked it though, and Bumblebee was funny." He was seriously done with his dinner? But he had twice as much as she did and she wasn't even finished with her salad. Holy crap, dude wasn't joking when he said he could eat.
Adelle could watch Shia LeBeouf all she wanted because Oz? Knew that he had way better muscles and looked way better period. He was so not modest about that sort of thing and if he had ever been then it would have been bred out after playing fooball. "Bumblebee's good times," Oz agreed as he stretched his arms back and over his head, fingers laced together. "But I like Optimus. You know, the big guy." That would be a sweet truck to own, even if it was too big, and probably one of the few vehicles Oz could be in without feeling like he was cramped. As the opening credits started to roll, Oz added in mostly casually, "And if you get scared at all, there's room over here. I'm used to getting clung to." Half the time there was no need at all, come to think of it.
Pfft, like it was a contest between Shia LeBeouf and Oz. Seriously? If she could look at him and ignore the whole two hour movie, she would, because he was gorgeous. She bet that if he put on any of the shirts that Shia wore in the movie, they would just fall apart over his muscles. Oz definitely had a reason to be cocky. Adelle was waiting for the chance for a secret grope, because yeah, his chest and arms were amazing. "I like the uh, Autobot. Um, I think it was the one that died pretty quickly, Jazz? The coolest car out of all of them, totally. I couldn't even tell when he died, somebody had to tell me." Adelle finally finished her salad, and closed her the container to save the burger for later. "What if I want to cling to you just because? I'm kinda scared now, should I climb over there?"
Jazz. "Yeah, that's right, he was cool until he got torn apart." That had been too bad because at least that one had been fun. They always killed the best characters off and Oz would never be able to understand why they felt the need to do that. It was like... no, he had no comparison, it just sucked. If Optimus died in this one then Oz was going to be pissed. Provided he was paying attention because the offer that he made was already being taken up and the movie had hardly even started. Sam was going off to college or something and Adelle was scared? Nah, she just wants to cling. Girl thing. Not that he was going to complain because damn, Adelle was pretty and older than him, this would be a great story. "If you want," Oz remarked with a grin, moving one of his arms out so that she could snuggle up on the side. "Not gonna complain about having a pretty thing there."
Maybe Jazz could come back because it was Hollywood and magical things always happened. Maybe the um... the Allspark could bring him back to life, because Megatron had been killed by it, right? Seriously, fantasy worlds and movies made anything possible. But all things Transformers aside, even if Optimus did die, she was sure that everything would end happily. Or maybe they wouldn't, on a horrible cliffhanger like the second Pirates of the Carribean movie, God, that had just made her jaw drop. "I think I want," Adelle returned, and she kicked off her wedges to avoid possibly stomping on anything delicate as she made her way over. Slipping in next to him, she placed a hand on his leg to help herself, and then one on his bicep when his arm returned. He wasn't even flexing and his muscles felt oh-so-amazing. "You shouldn't complain, I'm waaay too small to get in your way really."
Flexing was something Oz rarely did on purpose. He knew his muscles were there, other people knew it, and flexing was just unnecessary unless he was trying to impress someone. "There you go." He let his arm drape loosely over her shoulders and readjusted slightly so that nothing was digging into his side. She had been right, she was small enough to not make all that much of a difference in how he was arranged. "This is why you can't even finish all the food you got, you're too little, there's nowhere for it to go!" Still grinning, because he hardly ever stopped and when he did it was just odd, he tapped her stomach. "Nowhere near as big as me." Felt nice though, he was quite fine with her not being as big as him.
Adelle was content with being a small thing at the moment, because Oz made her feel like it was fine. All of her friends were much taller, and she was completely envious of them most times. Right now, though? She could snuggle in with her date almost like she wasn't even there. "Wow, I can't even reach the pedals from here. I wonder how I look in my car." Probably like a spoiled little brat, because that thing was way too expensive to have been purchased by the likes of herself. Yay for Daddy's money because it was doubtful that she could like this cute without it. "Hey, don't poke me," Adelle said as she did the same to Oz. She prodded his other arm with a finger, sticking her tongue out as she did so. "Ooh look, Bumblebee's all sad."
Almost like she was not there, but it was hard to forget that there was a pretty girl curled all up on him. Yes there were giant robot aliens on the screen and a reeeaaally hot girl that Oz had no problems staring at, but he was on a date. He may not have been the brightest but when it came to girls he usually knew how to behave. So instead of remarking on the movie and Bumblebee being sad because he had to stay at home - which Oz did not get, he would take the sweet ass ride to school - Oz laughed and held his hand up in the air. "Well if you don't want me to touch you then all you had to do was say so and I'll be the good little boy and keep my hands to myself. Deal?"
The tiny brunette was glad that she was being paid attention to. She would have been quite content to just sit and watch the movie, but if she could disregard it to joke around with Oz, then she was even happier to comply. With a playful look to match her date's grin, she placed her hand in his. "You're so much bigger than me. I totally look like a midget compared to you. And hey, I didn't say anything about not touching me, you just don't go around poking girls in the tummy. It makes us all kinds of self-conscious. How would you feel if I just poked you somewhere you thought was fat?" Adelle took a moment to run her eyes over his body before coming back up to his face. "Okay, totally should have thought before I said that."
"But you're not fat." Confusion showed in Oz's eyes as he looked Adelle over. He did not understand that whole thing with girls thinking they were fat when they were not. It was like him trying to say that he was a scrawny toothpick or something. And it may have been a bit shallow but Oz did not date fat girls because well... yeah he was a bit shallow and tended to have his pick. He was fine with that. No one else seemed to dislike him for it - that he knew of, they probably did but so long as no one picked a fight with him over it he was fine. "Aaaand yeah, I don't think I'm fat anywhere." Glancing down at himself, Oz chuckled at the idea and squeezed her hand lightly. "Maybe when I was a little baby before I could run or anything. Haven't you ever seen an otter? We can't be fat, we wouldn't be able to do anything."
Even though he said it so plainly, she couldn't just believe it like that. Most of her body was tight, toned from years of dancing, and then there was that bit about her race making her beautiful that she hoped helped. "Says you. Like I said the other day, I need to lay off the sweets and stuff." Which was why she'd eaten a salad, but then again, there was in that box too. But Adelle couldn't blame Oz for his tastes, she couldn't really see herself with a really fat guy for fear of finding herself crushed like that one episode of CSI, and her love of being active. She longed for somebody that could keep up with her, and she didn't really think that was possible if they were packing too many extra pounds. She absentmindedly began to trace the lines of his palm as she spoke, "I saw otters once when I was little. At the zoo. My dad took me and my mom out to see his restaurant in LA and then as a surprise, we went to the park. They were so cute, and almost like as big as me."
"Not that bright and not that good at lying, I'd tell you if you were fat," Oz assured Adelle. Oh that had gotten him in trouble quite a few tmes and likely would again, but it was just how he was. Foot in the mouth syndrome was something he had become very accustomed to. Besides, Adelle had an awesome little body, definitely the sort that he was used to. Although a lot shorter than the last girl he had been dating, Dagmar was tall. "Well you're little so otters would seem big to a kid you. Like I said, you behave and you'll get to see me as one. I'll be a lot smaller than you." Using his free arm he tapped her on the nose, even that was little! And damn, how the hell was that Sam character getting a girl that hot? Guys like that never got girls that looked like her and Oz shook his head at the movie. "And very cuddly and playful. Otters are cool like that."
She laughed at his reassurance, feeling so much more relaxed. He did seem the type to say something like that if it was on his mind. Luckily for enough for Adelle, she was pretty slim, even if she did think otherwise. She was a tiny little package full of energy and creativity, or at last she loved thinking so. It made being so short an adventure. "Well I'll take your word for it then, I guess. I mean, you wouldn't steer me wrong, would you?" Adelle hoped for the best, because she really wanted to see an otter. Even better would be an entire family of wereotters and their little kid brother. If she got the chance to see it, she would even try not to laugh at Otter, because maybe the kid was taller than she was. She tried not to laugh too hard as the new comic relief made a little joke, and snuggled in closer to Oz. She was having an awesome time. "I kinda wish I were a were, or could use magic or something. Something to make me more interesting. I could show you a dance sometime, if you'd like. I'm awesome at that."
"Nope, never." Oz made mistakes like everyone but it was rarely on purpose. The most malicious he got was when he got carried away with a prank or some hazing of younger kids on the team. Nothing more than that, really, and he usually felt bad about the hazing. Lying to a girl seemed like something that would only end in a whole lot of trouble. "And hey, nothing wrong with being human, dancers are pretty sexy. What kind of dance are we talking about though? Because if it's ballet then that's more of a pretty thing." But she was snuggling closer and the were was fine with that because hey, not all girls would be that quick to cuddle. Also meant he could toy with her hair and get a better smell of what it was she used in her hair. Nice shampoo. "You smell good too, just in case you didn't know that. What do you use?"
Which was a lot less malicious than Adelle at her worst, but now was not the time to think about that. For now, all she had to think about was Transformers and how funny Shia was being, and maybe candy if she wanted it, because yum. Although it would mean making Oz move, or getting out of the comfy position that she was currently enjoying. "I can dance to pretty much everything. I did start in ballet, but I know a lot of different stuff, because ballet doesn't cut it when you're clubbing or at somebody's house party. Unless it was one of Fred's parties back in high school, haha, then everybody was doing whatever came to mind." Adelle was sure that Oz could probably smell the product in her hair when she was just sitting in the other seat, with a nose as strong as a were had, but she was happy to hear him ask and compliment her. "It's Frederic Fekkai. So you're probably smelling apple cider, but they're not really scented that much."
Frederic Fekkai was not a name Oz new at all. Sure he had sisters but he did not pay attention to the actual stuff that they stuck in their hair. Just the scents attached to it. So Adelle was going to have this scent as hers from now on and, with her cuddled into her side, Oz decided he was okay with that. "I like it," he nodded, absently stroking her hair while his attention drifted back to the giant screen. Oh he could have kept his attention solely on Adelle but for awhile he was content like this, not pushing her or himself and just enjoying the movie and the cuddling. It was kind of nice after being around someone cool and distant like Dagmar.
"Mm." It was more a noise of acknowledgment than an actual answer. She hadn't really expected the boy to say anything about her hair, but it was nice. It was nice and it was definitely something that set the mood. Usually, anybody commenting on her smell was talking about the blood, and being genuinely appreciated put a ceasefire on her lust. Adelle's eyes settled on the movie, legs crossed at the knee and a hand in Oz's. She couldn't be happier, and didn't come easy. For the moment, she was a normal girl living a normal life and she couldn't be happier.
