Who: Kinah and Dominic (NPC)
When: Some time in 1920
Where: Kinah's house in Scarlet Oak
Most people didn't come back from this long a trip so nurtured and well fed. Kinah thought most vampires didn't, either; but with the rise of active racism and the amount of time she had spent on the road, there were plenty of deserving victims that she had had a chance to feed on. And undeserving, too. It didn't quite matter. The truth was she did not like coming home with an empty stomach, feeling that need to feed accompanied always by the frenzy with which she then carried out her actions. This was where she was based, after all. She couldn't act stupid or careless here.
Recognizing the house as soon as she saw it wasn't hard; it looked like it had ever done. However, upon getting into the house, Kinah soon realized something was not where it was supposed to be, while another was where it was not supposed to be. Not a fair trade.
"Where's the Captain?" She asked Dominic, one of the pirates, one of the Shades, a companion. Only because the Captain, as she liked to call Nathaniel, insisted it to be so. She didn't like him any more than he liked her.
Dominic turned, startled, as he hadn't seen her coming due to all the shadows the soft candlelight allowed Kinah to walk in. He smiled, and in his smile Kinah saw nothing good. "He's not here. He's gone. You're late." These last words were spat out accusingly, as if Kinah's love for travels had anything to do with the reason why Captain Nathaniel wasn't here. Kinah's eyes narrowed.
"Explain." She demanded, not minding for a second that this was an older vampire than herself; this was not how Kinah Danziger worked. The other vampire snickered once more, leaning against the furniture, using his hands to support his weight.
"I suppose he grew weary of waiting for you, and went to travel by himself." Nothing he hadn't done before; Kinah didn't know what on earth was different this time. She shrugged, which caused another snicker to escape Dominic. "Oh, you don't care?"
"What do you mean, I don't care? It's not as though you told me he died; he has gone on trips before, as have I." The man's snickers were beginning to get on Kinah's nerves, if her clenched knuckles were anything to go by. But she didn't make a sound, not even when he snickered again.
"It seems more...permanent. This time around." He told her, and Kinah did not understand. Had Nathaniel moved away for good? He probably would have said something.
"Right." She would investigate this by herself, she didn't need this wimpy little sample of a man at all for that. "The question now is what are you doing here, Captain or no Captain?"
"Well," He began, walking towards Kinah, who stood the same, arms crossed in front of her chest as she waited impatiently for an answer. "Someone has to take care of his belongings. The house...You."
This did not bode well. One would think, after all these years, the crew would have stopped seeing Kinah in that light, she had given them enough reasons to. Even Nathaniel himself had known better. "I need no man to take care of me. Do you not know that by now?" The very notion filled her with rage, her nails carving themselves on her forearms as it sunk in. And he kept coming. Kept walking slowly, smirk in his lips and clear intentions in his eyes.
"I'd like to prove you wrong." He said, before launching himself onto her, hands roaming and his lips trying to reach hers. The force with which he'd propelled himself forward caused Kinah to back up into a wall, which only spelled bad things for her, seeing as she felt trapped the minute her back hit the cold stone. His hands were under her skirt, over her breasts, unwanted lips all over her neck and chest. It made her feel sick. And then, as it was usually the way, his alertness faltered, giving Kinah time and ample space to pull the knife from her thigh - she mentally thanked him for having hiked up her skirt - and, upon turning him around against the wall, point it at his throat.
"The Captain not being here does not give you free reign over his things, or over me. Firstly because I am not one of his things, and secondly because I will never allow it." She hissed at a fearful Dominic, not so strong now that even without needing to breathe he seemed to be panting. "You are lucky you are a Shade like I am, or I would have your blood smeared all over me and these walls right this second." After all, he wasn't worth the punishment.
Dominic pushed Kinah out of his way and she let him, watching intently as he walked towards the door faster than she'd ever seen him walk before. "You forget your place. I am older than you."
"Doesn't beget submission, not according to the house rules. Tolerance, sure. Reverence, of course. But it doesn't mean you get to have me. Now, leave." She ordered, completely distraught at the thought that he would walk away after doing what he had done. Weren't it for house rules, and Kinah valuing her life too much to break hierarchy, he would no longer live.
"This isn't over." He said from the door, an accusatory finger pointed at Kinah. She, in turn, lifted her chin and smirked.
"Oh no, no it isn't."
After all, she had all the time in the world to figure this out.
